Only some Hybrid action Cross-X Asus 6670 + A8-3870K... HD 6550D speed makes no difference in scores, pretty weird.
Gpu-z shows 3 cards, but it's only APU + 1x HD 6670

Sorry if this has already been answered, but how do you overclock the GPU on these things? Can i just use MSI Afterburner? I know GPU clock is controlled by baseclock, so is there a different multiplier for it? Also, is the GPU a separate chip with its own temp under the IHS, or is it on die?

To overclock the integrated GPU you need to lower the SCLK divider.
GPU clock = MainPLL COF / SCLKDiv.
MainPLL COF = BCLK * 36 (36x = default for A8 APUs).
The default for A8 APUs is 100 * 36 / 6 = 600MHz
Gigabyte boards should be able to adjust the SCLK frequency directly from the bios.
Afterburner or other such programs do not work.

With the newest betas (1.63 IIRC) you can atleast disable the "lab burst".

But this guy got the 631 with unlocked multipler , it just doesn't make any sense to me ??

That Athlon X4 631 is really working at 3120Mhz (120*26). The multipliers are blocked... It's a very old bug on Fusion, it reports the multiplier set by the BIOS but it is actually working at the fixed max, in this case, 26X.
I don't think Llano will ever get pass the ~3600Mhz wall.

Ive revived my Llano build plans for various reasons but ill get straight to the point for now :)
After much fussing around I have it down to two ways to implement this(or maybe another variation of these 4 components ?) -
1) Athlon X4 651 + Asrock A55 Pro3
This gets get me an overclockable quad core setup with USB 3.0 and SATA 6GBs at a stupidly good price. As the board doesnt have MVP and as im going to be using a discrete card the Athlon makes more sense here then the A8.
2) A8 3870 + Asrock A75 Pro4/MVP
This gets me a performance/quality boost from MVP Features and means I dont waste the IGP. However From what Ive read MVP may get me 10% ish extra performance in supported games and in all games I will benefit from the Virtual Vsync, but I do wonder if its worth the extra £40+ over the first option above for this, and a better motherboard overall ? Although reviews for the A55 Pro3 give a good impression indeed for a £45 board..
The common components for the above setup options are an ATI 6870 and that 8GB Samsung Green kit that everyone is talking about.

I have an A6 X3 3500 for my bedroom HTPC, running VMware Worstation with a SQL Server and a vCenter 5.0 server. It has 8GB DDR3-2133@2000Mhz and I have it overclocked to 3200Mhz. Even though I have done exactly what you are planning to do already, it doesn't make much sense really. Take it from our experiences, but the BEST you will possibly do with any unlocked LLano or Athlon II derivative is about 3.6GHz stable on air. That is about slightly worse (-5%) performance, than a STOCK PHENOM II 975. Most of the hyped up LLano CPU-Z shots are either from a bios bug or the MSI Boost Mode crap and are not real. The only way you are hitting higher than 3.8-4GHz is on water/subzero/coldair for bench runs. LLanos don't OC well at all, nor were they ever meant to be a high end performance platform.
The only thing you gain from running a Llano without graphics is novelty.... I ran my 3670k with a GTX480 for :banana::banana::banana::banana:s and giggles, but obviously I would have gotten less bottleneck with a Phenom II or Intel setup. If you are on the cheapest budget imaginable, even a Celeron G530 Sandy + h55 board will blow away a 3.6GHz Llano in gaming scenarios. That setup can be bought in the US for about $80.
FM1 is EOL. There are far better options out there for what it is you are trying to do. LLano desktop is a valid route for everyday use + light gaming or HTPC duty, but are not for a performance platform. Best you are going to get is Phenom II - 975 stock level performance.... trust me
AM3+ probably makes more sense at this stage but what has clouded the issue is im finding it a little easier to find a well priced full ATX FM1 board with a nice layout (for dual slot video cards without blocking SATA etc) and SATA 3/USB 3.0 then it is a full ATX 760/970 AM3+ budget board with the same. Wish FM1 wasnt EOL and OCed a little better, then it would be a perfect low budget no brainer platform..Quote:

Your pricing must be frustrating, as all EU customers usually end up getting screwed in pricing/deals etc :( Can't really relate being in the US
Also, i don't think the 970 chipset supports crossfire. It will have to be at least a 990X chipset (8x8 lanes) for AM3+ crossfire.... but i may be wrong.
I dont need crossfire, single card is just fine for me. also re: FM1 athlon ii performance, I think id be ok with the performance offered at the price, but from what you are saying it may well be a pain to get a FM1 based set up overclocked and tweaked to max it out(and therefore make FM1 worth while) as it were ?Quote:

FM1 is easy to max out with the 'K' chips. You will not have to deal with Llano quirks... like USB/Motherboard components dropping out, trying to make sure PCI-E bus is locked at 100MHz, having to run SATA devices in IDE mode instead of AHCI... etc. You will run into all of these issues with an Athlon II x4 FM1 if it is a locked chip once you start bumping up the BCLK. There is so little info out there on the x4 651 I dont know if its locked or unlocked. Running SATA in IDE mode means having no TRIM capability on SSDs, and slower disk performance overall (you lose NCQ, etc). Losing all of that stuff, just to get Phenom II x4 level performance at BEST... is not worth it just so you can run discrete card with a cheap FM1 quad.
idk, I still cant see how FM1 is that much cheaper than a 970 board + Phenom II. The latter is a much better choice, OC-wise, and future wise. At least you have a shot of upgrading to Vishera if it turns out better than Phenom II. If you dont have issues with used components and are really strapped for cash like you sound like, try Ebay or the XS FS/FT forums, may catch a good used AM3+ deal. Lots of people dumping their AMD rigs for Intel these days...
