almost 8 hours of prime 95
Batch 3001A179
yes, a nice chip 3001A179:up:
wow does any 930 fpo/batch become new golden batch yet???
like 920 golden with below 1.4 VCore @ 4.5Ghz prime stable
Hello all, thanks for screen's and informative posts!
I have a new 17 930 (forgot to look at batch sorry!)
I want to run it daily at 4.0ghz, it is under a fuzion
waterblock. I only have rubbish XMS3 RAM, and a P6T,
I was just wondering what people think is a safe temperature
to reach while under prime (knowing in real life it will never get
that hot) and what are safe voltages for CPU and QPI.
Also can someone please explain uncore speed, I am not
looking to have it super fast until I get better RAM, just stable
at 4ghz.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Vcore at 1.2625 in BIOS, QPI at 1.225, mem 1.64. All other auto. Also done 20 runs on this settings.
I think this is pretty bad chip-temps are way too high with my Venomous X+1 Scytche Slip Stream at 2000 rpm in pull :(
Room temps are 24-25.
i have batch #3951A690 4hhz@1.216v and 4.2ghz@1.280v
Thanks for screens, nice work!
Hi. I have also joined i7 930 club:)My batch is #3951A694 and my first hours on this cpu are great. At this moment it can run at 4200 and 1.33v but as i sad its my first day with this cpu so if anyone have any sugestion about voltages etc. plz advice me:)

How about temps? arent they too hot? I have Watercool CPU block(the best one) and 2 radiators first have 6fans and second have 4! meaby mounting cpu block is not good?
My latest OC at 4.2ghz fully stable with HT on....i reckon i could take this chip to atleast 4.3 with HT on maybe even higher. With HT off i reckon i could go 4.5+
Prime 95....8 hours
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...stable9hrs.png
Linx 20 passes
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ssmem24000.png
IntelBurn test 50 passes
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...50passes-1.png
Occt(Linpack) 2 hours

Next im going to push for 4.3 possibly higher, then ill try and see with HT off.
Small update with room temp at 22. Al other same.

My i7 930 is batch #3951A682 ambient temperature in the room 25 ºC all other informations i guess are in the picture
Look what I got here! If only my RAM kit could arrive sooner! :(
I have up to 8c difference between cores and so far I am un-able to get prime 95 stable
at 4ghz. Might be time to re-seat water block. I really hope I have not just been
extremely unlucky with my hardware, again....
Cpu at 1.34v
QPI at 1.38v
Dram at 1.64v
Ram is hardly overclocked, 763mhz at 9-9-9-27 2t.
P6t Motherboard.
I don't think you need to set your QPI volts so high to achieve 4GHz with an i7 930 The0men. Try to lower it a bit.
Also what multiplier are you using right now? If you are using 22x try to use the 21x multiplier and rise your BCLK.
My 930 doesn't seem to like the 22x multiplier a lot so when i use 21x i need less CPU volts to be stable.
Yer, I am using 21x Multiplier. Seems stable now, just hot, I will lower QPI and CPU voltage.
I am thinking it might be that my RAM is well and truly the weakest link, I guess I will
have to invest in some better RAM, this cheap XMS just doesn't cut it.
I will lower some voltages, leave RAM as it is and see how goes when I get some time.
Thanks for the advice.
My 930 is one of the 'good' batches apparently - 3912C699.
4Ghz @ 191x21 @ 1.24 (cpu-z load)
HT ON
Idle: 41 39 42 38
Load: 73 72 72 68 <---first core always hottest
Ambient ~20-22'C
4.2Ghz @ 200x21 @ 1.28 (cpu-z load)
HT OFF
Temps: I didn't write them down but pretty similar to above. Main thing is I had to turn the HT OFF to keep things at my target max temp of under 73'C.
Load temps are using IBT. I note Prime95 is about 2-3'C LESS. IBT is run in standard win with most of my apps turned off.
Other settings are constant:
- QPI/VTT 1.2
- PLL 1.8, IOH 1.2, ICH 1.1
- DRAM 1.66 @ stock speeds 9-9-9-27
- mem 1541, uncore to 3082, QPI link lowest setting
- LLC ON, Energy saving off, Turbo off, Spread off
I have managed to run 60 runs of IBT for my 4Ghz setting. 4.2Ghz has done about 18 runs but I find that if it passes 10 then I'm usually good.
Would Upgrading a E8500@ 4.2ghz to a i7 930 @ 4 ghz on H20 be upgrade that will be worth it, for speed and price wise?
Depends on so many things:
-What other hardware are you using? (eg GPU(s)?)
-What do you use your computer for? (Rendering, Gaming, Transcoding?)
-How's your current performance in the applications you use? (Going from 100fps to 150fps in games isn't going to benefit you)
-What resolution do you use? (CPU bottlenecks show faster at lower resolutions)
I game, I currently have a 4850 512 mb I want to get a 480 and water cool with the rest of my rig
But I only have a 650 PS? Might go with a 5870 but driver issues makes me not want to.
High FPS would be nice,
I have a 24 inch Monitor 1920
I just wanted to know if a OC E8500 to a I7 would be night and day difference?
I would say you would barely notice the difference in real world scenarios with your current card. A GTX480 or HD5870 would definitely see some increases in CPU heavy games, such as GTA IV, Dragon Age, BF:BC2, etc. Because they are heavily optimized for quad cores. By the way, what driver issues for the HD5870 are you talking about?
