damn @ 4.2 and 4.3 what setting are you guys using. I lost prime 95 after about 5.5 hours of blend testing. here are my settings and marks. Ill be away from work so it might take a couple days to run a small ftt test.

i5: 4.2 ghz (200 x 21)
vcore: 1.363 (seems better higher, was running at 1.35 and it seemed fine for gaming but didn't get a chance to but much testing in)
vtt: 1.23 (also tried 1.21 and 1.19 doesnt seem to change much)
vdimm: 1.6 (also been at 1.5 cant seem to notice much of a difference)
HD5850: 1000 (was running 1020) w/1275 ram
OS: Windows 7 64

3d06mark: about 25200 (which seems low? based on what I'm seeing here. Maybe new drivers would help.)
furmark: 2600

During gaming occasionally ill get vertical green/purple repeating (about 1/4" wide) lines and the system locks up. After the listed settings above I'm at a loss other than playing with ram timings. Any Ideas?

Hi there.

I think ( based on overclocks that are posted here ) that not all chips are really god or god at all, is a lucky thing to get a good chip. A good friend here in Chile have the same batch with the same MB but he doesn't reach same overclock and voltages.

Try withouth Turbo mode and more BCLK with lower vcore, and memory divisor with 2:8, memory can reach 1800mhz if you have good chip. Set memory voltage to 1.67 some MB have vdroop to 1.65 and lower than that sometimes. Relax latency to 9-9-9-24 2T and try it again.

Anyone overclocking with the powersaving options enabled? C1E and C3/C6/C7 and EIST enabled?

I find my CPU is almost 10 degrees cooler when idle with them turned on - slightly above ambient.

Is there any estimate to how much power these options actually save? How much extra is running my chip at a constant 4ghz gonna cost me/make me feel guilty?

What sort of DRAM voltages are you guys comfortable with pumping through? I believe my ram is spec'd for 1.65v but my mobo (UD4P) warns against using more than 1.64.

I turn off every single power saving feature. In windows I even disable sleep and don't allow the monitor to turn off either. My computer is pretty much 100% load all the time. Not going to be saving power either way.

I agree with mikecdm, if you are going to overclock your system, than you'll want to turn off most (if not all) of those features.....they really don't play nice with each other and it will usually make your system unstable.

In regards to RAM voltage, it really depends on the chip and if you are overclocking the RAM or not. Sometimes you'll need a little more juice if you are overclocking it, but you might be able to under volt it if you are underclocking the RAM (I'm currently running my 1600MHz RAM at 1528MHz).

It's just a matter of experimenting with your particular components.

Indeed. Got them off now. Sitting on 3520 mhz, Turbo boost took it to 4.0ghz which wasn't LinX stable with these volts (set pretty low atm)

With the RAM, trying to isolate now whether its VTT or VDRAM that needs upping to get 170fsb -> 1700mhz RAM. I'll use the lower ram multi and see if its the VTT.

i can not even boot at 21x210 anymore?? tried clearing cmos and still no go..

Fast test: Linx 3 passes with full memory + Prime95 Blend and Large FFT both 5mins. Memory is Geil ultra 2*2gb 2133mhz and mobo UD3R.

I've got exactly the same vcore and vTT as you m8, the increased PLL and PCH are actually not needed.

Easy Tune doesn't actually report the current voltages does it? Just reads the settings made in BIOS and allows changes correct?

Yes, you are right. It reads bios settings and allows change it.

So far I have gotten this P55-UD3R to 220 bus speed but my chip is only willing to do 4Ghz @1.4v
It does 3.6Ghz at stock voltage so I was excited but I'm not gonna get much more than 4Ghz unless I employ some kind of xtreme cooling.
These screen shots are 4Ghz pumping prime. Temps got up to 75c when running Lynx. Ran 20 iterations of Lynx before I stopped it. So at least, it is a stable 4Ghz.

I noticed everyone seems to have the A version of this board. If anyone is running the non A version of the board could chime in on what bios you use that would be great. I think the newest I can find is F4. So far F3 is working flawlessly.

I don't see how you guys are getting anywhere with out LLC. With LLC off I get at least 0.06 vdroop under load.

Just so you know, I tested your Vtt settings on my board at 3.6Ghz and I got the lines your talking about after 1 run of LinX. My Vtt has to be at 1.3volt min to run 1600Mhz memory and 1.33 for 4Ghz.
If that doesn't work then try 1.12v on the pch core. Since you said you passed small FFT then you may not need to.

On a side note, I installed the F4 bios and now it says that anything over 1.24 Vtt is in the red zone when before, it wasn't red zone until 1.35Vtt.

Is 1.33v Vtt safe? I noticed some of you have gone as high as 1.4...They don't call this place Xtreme for nuthin.:eek:

I don't know for sure if my board is Version A or not. Normally I would just look at the box, but I cut the UPC/Serial out for a rebate (I didn't see anything about Version A on the MB itself and CPUz doesn't list it as Version A either).

I found it easier to run 191x21 to get to 4GHz and was also able to keep my voltage down too. Both PCHcore and PLL are set for Auto, but my VTT is currently set at 1.21v (LLC is off)....Here's a couple of snap shots of CPUz from my machine.

I kept my vtt the same, but increased the pch (1.12 i think) and the pll (1.9) and then also activated the vdroop reduction thing and havent found the vertical lines in a while. I also upped my vcore a bit to 1.3875 or 1.392 or something i cant remember exactly but i can record them. Still running @ 4.2 ghz.

I must have gotten a really bad i7-860 sample if I need 1.36v VTT minimum for 195 (x21) bclk. At first I thought it was due to using 12x ram multi and running at high speed of DDR3-2340 but lowering to 8x ram multi and like just below DDR3-1600 with the same timings (9-10-9-24) as a quick test, I still needed 1.36v VTT! :o

Any1 else seen/know of such poor blck lynnfield clocking samples?

It seems the i7s need much higher VTT than the i5s.

That's huge voltage. What are your temps like? I have the same cooler and my temps start to get fairly high (85+) at 4.0 with around 1.3v vcore 1.2.vtt (not stable)

Though I suppose I have HT on too.

i have an i5 750, it needs 1.38 vcore and 1.35 vtt for 4ghz to be stable.

I know I don't need that much voltage when overclocking my i5.

For the guys who need these high voltages when o/c......what vcore is needed to run just the default of 2.66GHz (20x133MHz) at P95 stable? I'm just curious if more voltage is needed from the beginning or just when o/c?

LazyDogNet... you have one of the better i5 chips that I've seen posted in this thread.:)

All chips reach a point of diminishing returns with regards to overclocking. Some chips might be better suited to running at maybe 3.8Ghz. :shrug:

Thanks guys.....I guess that just shows how much each CPU (or maybe batch) can be different. I wonder if anything else could be a major factor (RAM of course, but p/s, mb, dual video?) It appears to me that your setups are top notch (actually quite a bit better than my setup in every component).....so maybe I just answered the question.....it must be the CPU....I just got lucky I guess.

As PolRoger just mentioned, the excessive voltage needed for that extra 200MHz can be a diminishing return. I can run P95 all day at 3800MHz using way less juice.

Yep, I'm at 4Ghz with 1.29v 24/7 stable but to get 4.2Ghz it takes 1.4v, big boost in voltage for not enough performance gain. I like my 20 x 200 with DDR3-2000, so nice and round :p:

i have not been playing with mine because my xp64 raid got corrupted and i can not re install it again.. i have tried everything i can think of.. i can use my slipstream disk on my maximus se with the same drives and install xp64 just fine but it will not work on my ftw board any more. even made a couple slipstream disks to try, they all work on my maximus but not on this board. i can not even install it with out raid on 1 drive on my original disk... i can install other os on it just fine. ubuntu installed right now so i can go online.. it is at 4.0, i am kind of bummed out not being able to install xp64 on it again.. i think something is on my bios or board that will not let me re install.. i have tried ffd/usb, clean drives, new drives, firmware on dvd/cd, 3 different mobo bios, just won't install xp64.. i do not have money to purchase windows 7 right now so i am stuck not being able to play games or even play with benches..
