Most creative use of smilies...ever :yepp: Mawsoccer is missed - lets us know whats going on mate.
On a similar note - my internets have broken at home :shakes: Trying to get a cable connection installed & fix my ADSL connection at the same time right now - so I'll have a bit of redundancy in future - but for now I'm offline
I PM'ed Mawsoccer to see what happened. He said he was surprised that the systems ran this long. They were macs at his school but they get reimaged apparently every summer. So for the summer they won't be crunching but come fall we can expect to see him back again - maybe with even more firepower from the sound of it :D
Good detective work sc00p - hopefully everything will be normal at the Stanford servers soon.
Great my friend and his family went on vacation so my crunchers over there are shut down for the next week. Bummer. Oh well, guess that is what happens sometimes.
I noticed our team graph is bouncing all over recently. Anyone know if the servers are still acting up or are we actually bouncing around like that?
I think a lot of that bouncing is me. Check out my dailys lately.
BigDeel hit 600k:)
 Big_deel
Gratz on the 600 mate :D
good job, getting 600k
Uh-oh, I think that the stats are having trouble again. I don't believe that Angra has NO points today, and only 266 yesterday, and I am positive I have uploaded WUs last night and early this morning that just haven't shown up. Great, here we go again
stats are right - stanford servers are having problems, I think.
plus I have been taking 1.5 days to do WUs a lot lately, so when i get a big day, the next is sometimes tiny or empty.
Oh OK, that makes sense.
I really wish we'd get those nice WUs back through here again. I used to be up around 1900PPD with my old set of P3, duron, and athlon ~1GHz crunchers with only a few A64's in the mix. Now I have my GPU OC'd a little more and most of my crunchers are upgraded, with only one at 1.13GHz with the rest much faster, yet my PPD is pretty low in comparison to earlier this year :(
Oh well, it is the science that counts :) Doesn't mean I don't want my stats to look nice though :D
Question about gpu vs cpu vs smp client. I have been running the gpu client for a little while now. It takes about 12.5-13 hr, plus one core to finish a wu. Would I be better off to run 2 regular clients and no gpu, or maybe just run the smp client? How long and how many points are the regular wu's? I am just trying to see what is the best way to utilize my system.
I'm currently running an e6700 @ 3.7 with a 1950pro. Gpu client on one core and d2ol on the other core.
Thanks.
1 GPU client and 1 CPU client will most definitely give you better PPD than 2 CPU clients. However, on your CPU the SMP client might be better than those, but if you are running d2ol on one core then you can't really use that.
Download and run ATItool, it'll put your card to 3D clocks and thus fold much faster. Only catch is then it runs warmer so the fan gets noisier, and for 24/7 use like that I'd suggest cranking the fan up to keep it from getting too hot. 80C is the max I'd let it get, preferably keep it lower. Of course, if you are on water then it is no problem ;) woot for 45C loaded on my X1950XT @ 682MHz core :D well, in normal ambient temps anyway, right now it is at 51C but my ambients are around 28C (yeah pretty warm in here!)
@ [XC] 4X4N, if you can have your E6700 running an smp client most of the time you'd definitely get your best production vs resources used. My E6600 running smp 24/7 @ stock settings is pulling about 14-1500 ppd, which should be easily attainable for your rig.
If you were to run dual gpus, you'd still have both cores of your E6700 babysitting the gpus....in essence burning two gpus @ 100% and both cores @ or near 100%. That's a lot of juice my friend  Sparky is on the money on gpu folding...always use atitool to OC the cards and override the fan controls for optimal production from them
BTW, most regular WUs are between 200-500 points last I checked
Ok guys, I'm going to switch over to smp client when the current gpu wu finishes. I do have the card overclocked a little, running the core at 600. Didn't spend much time to see how high it would go. If I can double the 660 a day I've been getting, I'll be happy.
I've been running the smp client on my new q6600 :D . The work units are very nice -- current one is worth 1760 points, and takes less than 12 hours to complete. But lately the client has been getting hung up, so I lose however many hours it takes before I happen to check it and close/restart the program. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
I have the smp client running now. 1760 points also. According to fahmon, about 22 hours for completion. That would be over 1800 per day
I will keep an eye on it and make sure it stays running.
When I borrowed my friend's A8N-SLI and X2 3800 @ 2.6GHz (while I RMA'd some parts left and right during my bout of a weird hardware issue) I ran the SMP client on it. Found that the GPU client + 1 CPU client was better for PPD on it. However, my opteron has 2x the cache (which I heard the SMP units really like extra cache) and is a little faster at 2.7GHz, which eventually I hope to get 3GHz, or at least close. Maybe I should load up the SMP on my PC and just see how well it works out... hmm.
That's great news 4X4N! I'm sure you'll feel 100x better once you chaulk up that first smp WU ;)
Sparky, very true on the L2 cache. Some of those WUs are extremely cache intensive, and one of my rigs decreases in efficiency (ppd) by 28% when it catches those bad boys....and it's due to the smaller cache
You know what they say...cache is king....sorry, i couldn't resist :D
Well, for a long time I've only had 1 machine folding for us. The machine in my room had no OS and my brothers machine had always been unstable enough to run it. Since my dad & my brother are away this weekend, I was able to load my machine back up and finally find a sweet spot for my brothers machine. Hopefully I'll be able to keep a consistent 100 or so a day (or 700 per week) which would be nice. I want that top 50:CTF:
Finished up my first smp wu :D Just over 20 hrs to complete, plus my temps don't go as high as when I was running the gpu client.
Temps aren't as high, hmm... if you are on water it would make sense, no heat from the GPU warming up the water for the CPU.
I was wondering why also. The one core the the gpu was using would be 63-66 and the other core would be 55-57. Now both are around 55. My card was running pretty low temps, below 60. I have good airflow and my case temps are good. A little disappointed that I got the 1950pro. I didn't need that good of a card, just got it for f@h.
Well pick up an older single core CPU like an AMD 3000+ and use that to drive the X1950pro :D
