If there's anything that can be done to make it compatible with virtualization platforms like VMWare, Parallels, and VServer it would resolve a ton of these issues. That way our users could do whatever they wanted to make their desktop pretty and use the software they want. If you tried to port the Windows API and DX10 directly into a Linux kernel module, however, Mr. Gates would reach down your throat and rip your heart out.
if this is just a gaming OS, then why not have an interface where all you have to do is click on the game you want to play and that game is launched (and then give option to have a "normal" desktop.....
say for example like this mockup here http://delfick.storage.googlepages.com/xsos.png (except the whole screen, the squares would be the would be the icon for the game, and "game" would be replaced with the name of the game, and a whole lot of polish :D)
where the "manage games" button would allow you to install and remove games...
(i'll let you guess what the "shutdown" button would do :D)
......
How much is XSOS 3 going to cost?
nothing :D it's a free operating system :DQuote:

I don't really care too much if it looks like a lot of the linux distros out there, or kinda like Windows, or even like a Mac, I would just rather have it work great and be very stable. But I would like to have the ability to "zoom" out to view all your open widows like Expose has on a Mac, it is a very useful feature that helps with switching between different windows and programs a lot easier and more fun :)
I don't mind the looks that much, clean and simple is all good. Functionality is what matters.
very important question here...
Since the release of vista i been seeing alot of posts with people having problems with the install on certain mobos/processors. Since XSOS is vista based, is it likely that we will experience similar issues?
1) different baseQuote:

What is this minimal talk
How about a real OS, not just a striped down DOS box for running Direct X 10 games!
Something that also supports the other things you need to do with a computer.
Thanks:D

if all that we wanted as uber performance we could have easily killed the GUI but we leave some things to make it user friendlyQuote:

Will there be support for soft/hard-links?
If it will, will it be better than in XP?
Will we have "mount" functionality for example?

this is still abstractly being decided (ideas of what V4 should be)Quote:
