I have been reading this particular thread for a while but for the life of me I still can't figure out the solution for my problem . The issue is that I get artifacts on games when I go pass over 3Ghz on the cpu even with stock clock speeds on the video card even if it passes Prime/SuperPI for few hours. If it doesn't artifact it randomly freezes for few seconds on the game. Heres the settings I'm currently using. Also every now and then it also freezes around 2.97ghz.

OK guys...my question for the day.
In the jumperfree page, right below the FSB setting is the SB>NB frequency setting. That together with the SB>NB multiplier in the Chipset page control the SB>NB hypertransport--just like the FSB and K8>NB multi control the standard hypertransport in this, and all other nf4 motherboards.
But just what the heck does "Auto" mean there when overclocking the FSB? As far as I can see it can mean one of two things: 1) it matches the FSB frequency in which case the SB>NB multi should be set the same as the K8>NB multi; or 2) it keeps the SB>NB frequency at 200 regardless of what you do with the FSB. In this 2nd case the SB>NB multi should be kept at 5X... I guess. This is based on the assumption that this 2nd hypertransport also wants to be at 2000 or below for stability which is also just an educated guess.
Is there a program out there that will read both hypertransport frequencies separately so we can figure out just what auto does?
Since this setting is unique to this MB, or rather, to SLI-16X motherboards, there isn't a lot of info about this 2nd hypertransport anywhere. I see a lot of trial and error going on with SB>NB settings--both the frequency and the multi setting--but I don't think any of us know for sure yet what the optimal settings are here, specialy when OC'ing the FSB. I tend to match the SB>NB to whatever I do to the FSB and it seems to work well that way but don't ask me why lol. Others claim that locking it at 200 with the multi at 5 works best.
Neither the chipset developers (nVidia) nor ASUS are saying anything about this that I can find.
i tried those settings and my computer doesn't even boot

Thanks Marios. You were fast !. I'll try these settings when i get home.
just wanted to bump this thread and also post that i was able to ditch my warm boot finally....in my case it was not enough vdimm and vcore - even though everything was stable it just needed that extra bump and now it boots just fine.
also wanted to thank marios re: the cool n quiet tips - really love this setup now! (i wasnt sure how cool n quiet would operate while using memory dividers but it works just fine)
So this may be an innapropriate question on extremesystems.org, but having read through 40+ pages of this thread, and expecting my board to arrive today, I have to ask...
Anyone tried the "Auto" overclocking setting? Does it work? Is there any benefit?
Thanks.
Yes it works(upto 10%).
Yes there is a benifit (upto 10%)
You would get much better results by using the bios to overclock though. Takes time but its much more satisfying.

'Cause it's going to take a bit more reading for me to get comfortable oc'ing this board. My present (now disassembled machine) was a P4 system (Asus P4S8X). The oc'ing options are a lot different with the AMD systems.
Thanks again.
Auto can be a bit slack - you can tighten just about all auto settings on this board. It gave me ram timings of 3-5-5-10 once where the ram was good for 3-3-2-7 on manual. YMMV.Quote:

And all of the "!" marks in the device manager have now been eliminated. And all the Windows Updates and X2 and Windows Dual Core patches applied.
So now that I've run Stress Prime overnight on both cores - and had no errors - It's time to start tweeking. Just as soon as I run a 3DMark05 benchmark to get a baseline.
So far, so good.

Does this mean Asus are now 'officially' supporting Opterons?
Just getting to grips with this board now. Seems pretty good so far though.
Managed to get to 3.1 on my 3800 X2 but I have no clue what the hell I'm doing with the dividers!
Tomorrow I'll try and pick through the 50 odd pages in this thread and see if I can figure it all out.

As I say, I really don't know wtf to do with these dividers, the only thing that boots just now gives me 150MHz on the mem booting at 3Ghz.
The real problem may be the 2 x 1Gb OCZ 3200 Plat I'm using, I don't think they're that great. Will swap over to bh-6 and bh-5 when I get a chance. To much work and a rotten cold just now :(

I changed the cable to the one that came with my mobo and the mobo temp went down.

Nice, nice. Is it 0550UPMW?
First, I apologize if I should be starting a new thread. If so, just tell me and I will. :)
Second, I have just built a new system for a friend around the Asus a8N32 deluxe (w/ 4200+ X2).
A couple of questions:
a. been reading on various forums (including this one) about the AMD dual core driver and the MS hotfix + registry edit.
==> Have y'all installed these as well (for those with dual core?)
b. After installing the drivers that came with the CD, I was going to go over to Nvidia and install the newest NForce drivers (along with the Forceware).
Did y'all install the newest Nvidia drivers as well, or stick with what Asus provided on the CD?
Finally, I can't say enough how helpful this thread has been for me - so much information! :D
I used the latest from Nvid and they work fine on my rig. I needed the dual core fix so that my opty 170 and BF2 would play nice together :DQuote:

It looks like it would fit the PCI-X #1 card, but I wonder about the 'backside' clearance on the lower PCI #2 slot. Especially since the X-Fi has a lot of stuff sticking off the front.
If they would fit, that would be a great solution. Because right now, my MB temps are at (and at idle sometimes higher) than CPU temps.
Although the machine is now a lot quieter with 4 Nexus "Real Silent Case Fans" I put in tonight.
Removing my floppy drive does not quite resolve my problem. Temperature dropped 3 Celsius ( from 46 to 43).Quote:

Which Nforce/Geforce drivers r u guys using ATM?
Reseat your Heatsink. You may not be making good enuff contact. Also reapply you Thermal grease lightly to the CPU and the heatsink (at contact points). I have found that helps me get a better bonded surface area btw cpu/hs. GLQuote:

What Backup software R u guys using with a raid 0 array ?
(As the software I got with my external maxtor drive doesn't like the raid 0 array and fails to work :slapass: )
And - Does it allow u to Boot from the backup or do u have to reinstall XP first?
I use a software program called ViceVersus Pro. It is a simple replication tool that I back my important stuff up to a back up external drive. It runs every night and takes my docs and files from the raid to a backup.Quote:

I have been reading the forum thread since it was on page 20..and have read every single post on it. I always check back here to see what new and interesting stuff we have found out about our motherboard. But now I have a problem.
I have my system at 2500mhz right now, FSB is 250, Hyper Transport Mult is 3x, and it has been running stable for 1 1/2 months now. I have rev 1.01 of the board. My Vcore is set at 1.4. Running 2 gigs of the Corsair ram recommended for the motherboard. Running bios 0903
When I put the system in Standby(S3), and wake the system up, I loose all my overclock settings. AIBoost, CPUz, all report my system speed back at stock of 2000mhz. My vcore is still at 1.4, but the FSB goes back to stock. Now If I hybernate or S1 standby, it works. But I need S3 standby, so that the Power supply is off (S1 doesn't do this), and I need to be able to Wake On Lan (hybernate doesn't do this). I have to reboot the system (not go into the bios or anything, just reboot) to get the settings back. Makes the Suspend kinda pointless if you have to reboot after every wakeup.
I have verfied this bug with a friend of mine who has the same motherboard. Do any of you guys know what the problem is, and if it is something we can fix? He's running bios 1009.
Thanks in advance! Bunch of great people here.

Hi all
Please I am new; I need help to overclock my system
I got
Asus A8N32 + FX60CPU+ 2 GB ram Pc4800TCCD DDR-600MHz + 2x7800GTX 256mb
I want to know what is the best setting for this motherboard( BIOS ) and how I can setup PC4800 Ram to 600mhz
Thanks
PS: sorry for my English
Strange thing happend to me too. When i was using single-core opteron (146), i didn't know what warm boot is. But now, when i had switched to dual-core opteron i'm getting warm boot when i restrat the computer or when i'm leaving the bios and computer restarts, the monitor just switched out, but computer is still going on. I need to turn the PSU off/on and turn the pc on again to boot normaly. The warm boot not apears when i'm turning the computer on, only on restarats:confused:
I had also updated bios from 1009 to 1103 with no luck. I'm out of ideas what to do??
think it refers to ECC mem but could be wrong !Quote:

I know the CMOS jumper is in a bad place (made a jumper for mine with some wire and block connetors so I dont have to take my SLI setup appart evertime)
Seems that EEC was meant to be other than ECC mem, the latter one settings turned off in bios by default.Quote:

Reset your BIOS using the jumper method.
(use search on this thread or your manual for more info on this)
Then load the original BIOS from your ASUS CD by pressing insert during post.
Enter BIOS and load setup defaults.
Flash the latest 1103 BIOS from a floppy or a USB key with afudos.
Enter BIOS and load setup defaults.
Restart.
In most cases the default values work OK.
You might want to enter the BIOS to dissable those devices you do not need or to configure a RAID.
Use the "search this thread" option
Most of the answers to your problems are here on this thread (including ECC error correction for your dimms and both cache settings) .
All you need to do is to use the "search this thread" option.
The DRAM ECC setting is only available when your DIMMS are ECC.
Otherwise it is dissabled.
The CPU cache ECC should be enabled. Just set a mid range value.
The S3 standby problem.
Resuming from Standby S3 works without problems, when not overclocked.
When I overclock with CnQ enabled, the FSB drops at 200 after resuming.
A restart solves this problem though.
I tried to put everything on default, and my system restrats fine, but soon as i overclock, i can't restart normally - i must turn psu off/on and switch the cpu back on to boot normaly .. What to do??
Nothing helps?Quote:

Try "search this thread" with ECC, vdimm and DDR500.
