Love to see the setup :D
looks like im haveing some trouble with my setup...
p4p800-se
p-m 730
512mb ddr400 kingston
im going to reflash the bios but after changeing out the p4 to the pm i only have options to 1.6v in bios and asus probe reports 1.58v in windows i can run 2.4ghz but going to click on startmenu and restart. i get blues screen even though superpi ran just fine as well as prime95. I have set in bios to boot the cpu @166fsb. i can do this with the voltage set @1.55v which reads 1.53v/1.51v-idle/load. I tried to u wire mod for 1.65 but when i check in bios it still says 1.6v and the lowest is now 1.475v. I have undone the uwire mod...
*edit*
seems having the hdd's with the adapter plugged in was the problem.
the 730 now boots into windows @ 2.4ghz @1.6v (bios) underload its 1.55v.
tortue test in prime95 fails @220fsb but its currently tortue testing @216fsb.
Is a better HSF (xp90) really going to make that big of a difference? load temps now are only 52-53c (stock asus cooler).
thanks guys!
The xp-90 will make a big differance my m730 at 2.8 never gets into the 40's with room temp of 22c.

this is going to be my new rig i am selling my p4 2.8c.
My ram is holding my back this is about it's limit at 2-2-2-5 but i am happy with this setup at the moment.
I do plan an removing the u-wire mods to see if it runs the same as i could not get ovet 230fsb on a p4p800-e this will go to 235 before the cpu locks up.
I did run it at 11x and ran the fsb upto 250 ish no problem but with memory at 200.
did you check the bios to see what options where there after the mod? i did the same thing with my 730 and the voltage options where still the same 1.6max in p4pse. cpuz still read the same voltages at idle and load. wish i could get past the 220fsb wall im at.. might be the kingston ddr400 cas3 doing it...Quote:

I think i will remove the u-wire mods and test that. The strange thing is that i used to get the full range of vcore options from 0.7v upto 1.6v the first time i used the m730 but now only 1.5-1.6. I fixed this once by booting with a p4 chip and defaulting the bios and then putting the ct-479 back but this time it didnt work.
If all else fails i will do the vcore mod on the p4c800 to get to 1.62v as macci said this is the sweet spot for this chip.
as for your 220 fsb limit have you tried running your ram at 266 and the m730 at 200fsb this should eliminate any ram issues and allow you to find the true limit of the cpu. On a p4p800-e with 1.6v i could not get to 2.8 but it will on the p4c800 maybee the mods are actualy working.
One other thing to try is putting the ct-479 power connector on it's own dont share it with anything else thats what i have at the moment that could be whats given me that extra few mhz over the p4p800-e.

I just removed the vid4 , 1 and 0 u-wires and set bios vcore to 1.6v. The bios still showed vcore of 1.536v in system monitor / cpu z and asus probe.
I set fsb to 230 in bios and booted to windows ok but it reset when i set the fsb to 233 with clockgen so i guess the u-wire mods are working but just not showed in the bios. is there anyway i can get an actual vcore reading with a multi meter on the p4c800 or ct-479.
edit: i put vid4 and vid2 u-wires in for 1.64 vcore bios showed 1.568 dropping down to 1.536 under load. i could run at 233 again but maxed out at 2825mhz same as before with vid4 , 1 and 0.
i would like to test just how much vcore it actualy has.

Ok i see that Dothan overclock nice. But how is it's life performance in gaming. I heard that FPS is not stable could fluctuate 40 -50 fps. Also is it stable and bug free?
Does anyone actualy gamed with this cpu? Please share your experience with games you play on CT-479 :D
well i played the demo of "area 51" on it with a 6800u the monitor limited my res since its a 15" 1024x786. the game was really smooth, i havent had the chance to use the 6600gt yet in the rig. the 6800u is on loan to me from a friend. its really quick with that game... havent had the chance to play anyothers just set waiting for new case and psu.Quote:

Yes i agree the 2.8 with HT is a smoother but everything i do day to day to either quicker or the same.
I use a program called videoredo to edit add breaks from mpeg2 recording of my sagetv box and it's no differant to the p4. also dvdlab (dvd auth software) runs the same.
I tested doom 3 1280-1024 high q time demo1 90f/s, mid q 100f/s halo runs at about 100fsb live for speed never drops below 70fsb no matter how many cars and need for speed underground 2 with everything on is minimum 60f/s.
Just waiting for some geil ultra platinum pc4000 so i can run memory at 1:1 as my crappy twinmos sp 3500 died on me and i dont like using the ddr booster. Running at cl2.5 will lower performance a little but higher bus speed will make up for it.
I still cant explain why i cant run at 11x233 any more same cooling , i have vid 4 and 2 for 1.64 vcore but my board shows 1.568-1.6v and get lockups / resets at 232. I could run at 235 when i first used this m730 and had vid 4,1 and 0 for 1.62v.
The only thing differant is i am using a 6800gt instead of a 6600gt could is be a power issue. I am going to run 2 psu's one for the mobo-ct-479 and one for everything else see what that does.

My psu is a antec truepower 430. it is happy with a p4 2.8c at 3.7 4x120mm fans on 2x 120.2 rads ,mcp650 5x hdd and dvd-rw so it should be ok with just a mobo, dothan, 6800gt and 1 hdd.
I could do another run but at the moment i have fsb at 230 and ram at 186 -2-2-2-5 so it's going to be lower than before anyway. I should get the new geil pc4000 tuesday so will give it another go then.
at 2.8 with 6800gt stock i scored 28k with 6800gt at 400/1100 almost 30k and 6800gt at 410/1150 just over 30k.

Well if your CPU is a FSB400, there you might have the explanation; they don't clock as high as their 533 counterparts :(
150x16 is 2400MHz BTW, which is okay without Vmods and the like, or is it 151x10 you are trying?
Its now ok. I set up pciex from 100 to 110 and now 2520mhz
730 arrived thismorning, hopefully it'll turn out better than the 715...
Running Pi (passed all tests so far, on 8mb now) 213*12 on 1.4v which doesnt seem too bad. Much better than the 1.5v it took the 715 to get to 2.4ghz.
Seem to have freezes at anything over ~ 213 though, have a feeling its the POS memory, need to get the TCCD in it later and test more.
Not bad for starters though.... :D
What about changing the divider to 3:2 to see if your memory is holding you back? :)
Done that already (all latest BIOS):Quote:

I tried forcing my 400FSB to 533 by doing BSEL 0 to VSS to force BSEL 0 L(Low), I think that was correct, but it's been a long time since I've bothered with wiretricking FSBs LOL. (pic)
http://www.meltdown.fsnet.co.uk/pics/Intel/vidpins2.jpg
Anyway it made no difference whatsoever. But maybe it should have been BSEL 1 to BSEL 0 to force Low? I though VSS was the same result.

hello guys.. i just gut:

2.asus ct479
3.dothan 740
4.vapochil xe
5.crosair xms 512x2 pc4400
and i have aLOT of problem!!
1. i do the u-wire 10 tims to get 1.660v and it didnt work. in the bios i see only 1.584! which vid i need to conect and with what?
2. my dothan temp are -25c' and i cant boot at 200/201 fsb only 195 no more!! even with clockgen if i goo one mhz above 2590mhz my computer is stop moving!! why is that??
3. i see here many guys that post at 200/201 fsb with the same thing (740+p4c800e-delouxe) what i need to do to pass this problem?
thanks
1. It won't be reported correctly in CPU-Z or the BIOS; as far as I know it won't be reported at all. You'll just have to ground it correctly and it'll be running at 1.660v.Quote:

well 2600mhz on air is not bad...
for more v-core you can try the v-mod...
This has probably been asked a load of times before as this thread is afterall 51 pages long...
Would the P4C800-E DLX work with the CT-479 and a 1.6 Dothan without a bios flash to the 1004 bios?
I have no other skt478 cpu's around :(
but i doo 2590 on air and on vapochill xe!! i cant pass the 2600 even with the vapo..
the cpu number is good or not?
rh80536 740
7452a551 sl7sa
I had to hot flash my p4c800e dlx in another board it would not post with a p4 2.8 or the ct-479 with bios 1009. after flashing to 1022.003 it posted first time.
so with 1004 i would say no but i dont think it will do any harm to the ct-479 if you try.

2) user error
How did you insulate the ct-479???

ok soo this is all the thinks you ask for:
ss=disabled
ram= i do all 266/333/ 233/320/400 dont help (from bios)
fsb=191 dont boot good after that and in 199/200/201.. dont boot at all...
vcore=1.298/1.584/1.660/1.712/1.889v!!! =not help 2590mhz..
multi=6/9/10/11/12/13 also dont help
bios= 1021.007 /1022.003 =also dont help..
somting more? that you do and i dont?
and for the ct-479= is ther away to insulate the ct-479?? if yes how?
i just move the jumper to 533 mod.. also if i dont use the jumper is still 1.73 533bus
the cpu number is:
rh80536 740
7452a551 sl7sa
is that agood number or not??
i hope you can help me..
thanks..
:slap:
what is your ram?
Try about 1.55v, set fsb to 201, DDR to 400, Vagp at 1.70v, performance mode standard, set ram settings to auto-spd. It "should" boot...
You see... when you boot it up at 13 x less than 200, it will NOT OC very well. The KEY is to boot at 13 x 201... it "should" do it, unless you have bad contact on the evap?? But if you say it's at -20C that's ok.
It's a slim possibility that you have a really bad OC'er, but I doubt it.
I noticed my system was REALLY sensitive to ram, what kind of DDR do you run??
I'm on the "official" 1021
also, don't use AI booster, it doesn't work well.
Do you use CPUMSR?
C
Has anyone put a dothan under dry ice besides kingpin? I hope I can shortly, just need to get the whole BIOS flash without a spare 478 chip and shim thing out of the way...
my ram is crosair xms pc4400 512x2..
the ram is good i can do 12x288fsb!!! on 2-4-4-8 3v!
and i do that and it still dont boot..
i have here a kingstone mem and even with that i cant boot at 201fsb!.
and if i use 1022 bios i can boot 6x201 but still cant pass 2590 mhz..
help me.. :( :( :(
the cpu number is good or not?
Some are just not as good as others. The best superpi 1 mb my 730 did was 2690...and that was with a zalman HS and 1.6 Vcore. Never got above 40C either. Highest 3dmark was 2640Mhz....that was also the limit for superpi with the stock heatsink.Quote:

Like this thread says, and like you have been answered several times, they aren't really different, but if you have a powerfull cooling solution like a VapoLS and some BH-5 capable of, say, 250MHz, a 740 (which would give you 3250MHz) or a 750 (for 3500MHz) would be better than taking a 730 for either 3000MHz or imperfect RAM settings :)Quote:

Nothing is ever quaranteed in overclocking it's all about luck. When you buy a 740 or 750 it can do anything from 2200 to 3200 depending on how lucky you are. The 750 is the same as the 740 only with a higher multiplier which would make booting more difficult.Quote:

Where do I go from here?
My potential order of operations (Point out anything wrong)
1. Boot at 201 fsb
2. drop multi (CPUMSR or EIST?)
3. Use clockgen to adjust
4. Use I865 tweaker

Any ideas to boot at 201 FSB? It seems volts is not the problem....
EDIT: Just rebooted and played with the bios. Took a chance and it boots at 201! I'm off to bed more fun tommrow night. 2.4 Ghz on a 1.6 chip is enough for one evening.
Interesting problem I've discovered on my P4P800 SE, a fsb of anything between 153 and 176 will not boot. 201 seems to be fine. AGP/PCI lock is a godsend.

Had anyone tried a P4GD1 with a CT 479 and dothan? I think it will be a good option because i don't wanna go back to AGP...Isn't? :stick:
yup... karemat tried P4GD1 with CT-479 and got some nice benches.
Finally finished screwing with my 2.8ghz Venice and now I get to play with this bad boy. Looks like 2466mhz @ 1.35vcore. @ 1.4vcore I can get up to 214FSB (2566mhz), but if I move any higher I get an almost instant reboot. Also, it wont post (locks up on post @ 225) or run memtest (locks up in memtest @ 220) above 215. I'm running 1x512 UTT right now to minimize variables, and memtest runs fine (no errors) at 215, but locks up at 220, regardless the vcore. Has anyone else encountered this problem or know how to fix it?
I'm still on stock cooling, but as long as I stay below 1.45vcore my temps are good.
It's the UTT... it doesn't run on P4C/ct-479 at ALL!!!Quote:

Thanks man. I'll try my generic elixir. I'm probably going to sell my A64 and keep this sucker if it performs in COD for me, and if it continues to scale. (If I can hit 2.7ghz with my slk947u, I'd say it's almost certain I'll be keeping this rig.)
It's sad really. I bought this UTT. Got a good price on it ($105 for LL ram). It performs like there is no tomorrow (240 @ 3.0) and I just can't find a place to use it. Might end up in my old NF2 rig.
heck, you'll hit 2700 pretty easy. Another big thing, these rigs don't work well unless you boot at 201, make sure you do that...Quote:

Intresting note there charlie.
Update on whats happening here is that I cant get it to boot up. Still on stanby :(
Bios hasnt been flashed on the board to the latest one that supports the Dothan's... 1009 is it?
I am running 2x512MB OCZ VX 4000. I'l try the 2 sets of old skool BH-5 Ive got to see if that does any help.
Charlie did you have to use a normal p4 478 to flash your P4C800-E dlx or did the CT-479 work right away?
My setup is:
P4C800-E DLX (stock bios)
1.6 2MB 400fsb Dothan
CT-479 w/ Asus hsf (no socket mount on my p4c800-e so the Asus hsf is held on with cable ties and rubber bands :D)
2x512MB OCZ 4000 VX
OCZ 520w Powerstream

You need a normal p4 to flash with.
Not the news I was looking to hear.
1009 bios right?
My dads rig will have to be taken apart to get his P4 out...
You will need BIOS 1021, and you need a 478 cpu to flash it :(Quote:

Thanks Charlie and Lithan for the info.
This VX has'nt lasted long :p: 3 Days old and not even used...
My old skool bh-5 it is then with my dads P4 2.2a :D
which modules today use BH5?
You need Original BH5, not the UTT bh die stuff. That is why the reference is to "old skool bh-5". You've got to visit the Classifieds if you are wanting to find any.
None of the UTT ram will work very well with the Dothan/CT-479 combo.
My UTT works fine up to 215. No matter what ram I use I can't get above 215. I know it's not the board, memory, or cpu's mhz limit. I suspect it's a limit of my adapter.
I switched adapter to 133. Was at 100. Now I can only post at 210 or less. Installed CPUMSR and changed to 10x, now I can adjust FSB in windows past 215 though (at 230 now).
Edit, seems that I can get 100% stability easily at 2500, we're talking less than 1.4v, but if I try for 2550 at any voltage and any fsbxmulti combo I can't even post or I get an immediate reboot if I set it in windows. Anyone have any ideas?
you can try the new beta 1022.003 with multi at 6x from boot...maybe like this you can climb with fsb..ah, are you 5:4? you can try maybe...
I've tried every mem divider available, and Im using a p4p800se.
