CPU can go higher than that but RAM don“t
What voltages did you push through those 3700 EB? Strange they don't oc more than that.

man thats fast taken the overall mem and cpu speed :)
i think the real ram frequency was 231X11,5/12 = 221,3 Mhz
3800+ perform as well my FX53 940
that is really fast for a slow fan air cooler. i should have my 3700+ up to that speed next week also on air. the super-pi comparison should be interesting

Hello guys & gals.
I'm thinking of upgrading my rig (P4C 3G @ 4.5G R507 Prom cooled / P4C800-E / BH5) into S754 A64 based-system.
Well I thought about S754 3200+ / NF3 250 setup, but I don't know which CPU should I take:
3200+ ClawHammer 2G w/1Mb L2 cache, or
3200+ NewCastle 2.2G w/512Kb L2 cache
I saw Karnivore's great review and still, I don't know which CPU should I take - which one will give the best performance? (200 additional Mhz's vs. 1Mb cache) which one will give me the best clocks? (if the winner is ClawHammer it must be CG revision!).
Thanks!
Not excellent but my board just won't lock my PCI bus and at 228MHz my RAID array will fail, and 118MHz an't what i call stable either :( so much for getting 2.4GHz :( 2.33Ghz at defualt voltage will have to do. On the plus side this processor runs real cool :)
You have a 4.5Ghz P4 and your looking to get something else?? Well if I was you Id go for S939 K8T800 Pro is real good but NF3-250GB looks like it might be better, I guess well just see which ocs better.Quote:

Well I wanna get another rig, the P4 rig will go for my brother. (Ill ran it default and the Mach goes for me ;))Quote:

As I said, im interested in a S754 system. S939 is just too much expensive. With my MachII I can go really far with a good CPU, RAM and mobo.
So what do you say, ClawHammer or NewCastle?
EDIT: Typo
If you just wanna have a nice overclock, then go for a Newcastle... It's ALMOST garantied for a nice OC ;) (Correct e if im wrong!)
But the Clawhammers are'nt bad at all..
Get a clawhammer, the extra cache helps quite a lot!
Every NewCastle i'v seen went high speed easily, so these CPU's are pretty much OC guaranteed... :) compared to the ClawHammer, when I can fall on a bad chip easily, but only if I get C0 rev. or something... if i'll get CG rev. i'll be able to OC it pretty far, right? if so, can you recommend me a good stepping? including weeks? :)Quote:

I heard that the A8V has not been officially released by ASUS USA due to an "issue" with the boards. Seems many of the early ones are being imported directly form europe or Asia and do not have a working PCI lock. I am waiting, and will probably go NF3.

On air, but tempereture is very high - 75C. No Vmods.
I'm making a w/c system to cool it :)
Memory works at 2.5v. 2.5v or 2.9v - no difference for it.
Wow really nice OC Dimdirol, really high temps though you have a 2 in 1 machine computer/broiler:D cook some eggs for breakfeast while you read your daily morning news. Which air cooler are you running stock?
=[PULSAR]= yes, stock cooler.

What is "LDT" I wonder? Is it a kind of multiplier for HT bus? With LDT 3x I can run CPU only @ 2500, but with LDT 2,5x I can jump a bit higher - 2550mhz
Yes, LDT is the multiplier for the HT bus. Can you lower it past 2.5 at all, lower it some more and try for a higher OC. =0)
Hello.
I need awesome OC'ing steppings for A64 3200+ S754 ClawHammer CG CPU. I wanna get the best of both worlds - Great OC'ing capability of the CG's, and great performance of the 1Mb cache of the ClawHammers (I prefer that on the 2.2Ghz speed of the NewCastles), means I should get ClawHammer CG CPU. Please write the full stepping and the week. Must clock extremely-well and have to be CG rev.
Regards,
Roy
Jeeze with these newcastles rolling out they are really a great overclocking chip, I just wish I could find newcastle core on a mobile chip. Low wattage output and a better overclocking core this would be the chip to get. After seeing this 3000+ do 2550 on stock air and 1.68 vcore. I cant even imagine one with high end cooling and a board with high vcore maybe paired with the new Abit that has a agp/pci lock and 1.85 vcore. Just a little bit more money until I am able to experiment. Only $69 to go until I'm happy.
You mean mobiles/DTR or NewCastle?
Anyway I ordered a 3200+ CH CG without a specific stepping, I just know the CG's are awesome OCers and the 1mb cache adds alot to the performance - so I get the best of both worlds.
so it appears these CG newcastles are really good overclockers.
i haven't been keeping up with this thread since about april, but what is the best skt 754 board at the moment?
still the shuttle an50r?
Personally I think its Abit's new KV8 Pro. Supposibly it has a workin agp/pci lock and vcore up to 1.85. I'm ordering the board soon to give it a try.

Okay well I got my Abit KV8 Pro today and got everything hooked up suprisingly it did have a working lock on it. I'm testing it with a 3000+ Clawhammer. Its nice to have 1.85 vcore but I need a nicer heatsink all I got for now is stock. At bios idle with 1.85 it reads 71C. I'll post overclocking results later.
Well I think a KV8 Pro is a great board with all the options. I think the bottleneck in my overclocking attempt is the processor. My max benchable OC was 2.4Ghz @ 1.7V. The stock CPU heatsink isnt helping niether is the passive chipset heatsink it was getting really hot during benchmarks. I will post again when I get my 3000+ NewCastle and Thermaltake Tower112.

Give me a couple weeks and I'll beat your Super PI with a aircooled 3000+:D Noise isnt a factor is it, I'll put the machine in a wind tunnel.
Hopefully I'll get a nice newcastle core and hit like 2.65ghz (9x295) and run full 1:1 DDR590
=[PULSAR]= is your kv8pro a revision 1.1 and if so does vdimm work after 2.8v
Yep 1.1 with a working lock, but why lock the AGP/PCI when its helps 3D performance. Well in bios you can only set it to 2.8v but once you get a OS installed get the first version of uGuru and you can raise it to 3.2v, so the first time you boot just set the vdimm to 3.2v and reboot to bios and you will have a couple wierd characters where vdimm should be but under voltage monitoring it shows 3.2v. Also, VTT does not go any higher than 1.4v so you dont have to worry about burning the mem controller on your cpu.
if vtt stays at 1.4 that will create instability using vdimm from 2.9-3.2. i know cause i had a kv8-max3 with the vtt issue and vdimm above 2.8 was useless. u sure vtt stays below 1.4? i was hoping that they'd fixed it with rev 1.1
oh well just have to mod then
Well the vtt stays at a constant 1.45v, but I havent found any instabilities about it. At one time I was running OCZ PC3200 @ DDR470 w/3.2v and it worked fine for me.
hmmm. i'm def going to test one. thanks for the info

Nice clocks king, But put on that baby phasechage and add some voltages... You can reache 3ghz pretty easily.
I Plan on it .... I'm just playin on air till chilly gets my cascade done. I'm hoping for alot more than 3ghz :PQuote:

I think 3.1Ghz + is completely possible with a good 3700+. That would rock, since my CPU maxes out at 3005Mhz, but i'm working on more. ;)
BTW, are you planning some 1:1 action? Maybe you should consiber EB3700 :slobber:
I am running it 1:1 in those benches. This one bh-5 stick will go 280-285 1:1 @ 5-2-2-2 but it needs over 3.5v.
The 3700eb looks good to tho.
