does the new 0612 bios fix the PCIE 1x bug? I am so fed up with the pcie 1x mode.....
Damn thats a sexy board...
sorry mate
which is the best bios?
thanks
FSB600 wall is push down!!! All by TR Ultra 120 eXtreme ,HR-05 IFX/Sli and Asus stock cooler on NB,SB,PWM and a lot of 12mm fans
http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n.../Capture_5.jpg
I don't see any pcie/1X problem with the 0702 Bios.
FSB 605 setting!
CPU PLL 1.80V
NB 1.80V
strip 333
FSB 1.40V
NB skew auto
CPU skew auto
CPU GTL 0.67 (depend on your Pow)
NB GTL 0.61(65nm 0.63)
CPU voltage depend on your U's ability.don't need too much to achive 6*600+
Memory must be able to work ddr2 1200+!!!!
How do I update this 0702 bios when it won't fit on a floppy? I left my usb stick at work lol.
sorry mate, this mb can set vcore of cpu max at 1,7, where can I find a vmod?
love this 0702 bios
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3439/45ghzti2.th.jpg
yes it works very good for me also
Rich
Seems strange that ASUS hasn't officially published this BIOS yet. TBH, only reason I haven't flashed it yet.
I still get the PCIE 1x bug with 0702 bios. anything more than 400FSB I can't get 16x T__T
Good for them lol. This cpu was bought for a one night oc session. P5k-Premium vs P5Q-Deluxe at another site.
I had a 300mhz handy cap because I just bought the cpu two hours before the show down started. He has his for a few weeks. Plus the P45 vs. P35 thing as well.
He ended up with 4.75ghz, I with 4.5ghz.
It's now at 4.26ghz 1.45v, idling at 35C loading at 55C
damn why is it working so well for everyone but me? any ideas how i can get a 16x lock?
Shouldn't be necessary to lock PCIE at 101 but worth a try. I've never had issues leaving it on auto.
I just flashed the 0702... and even after setting my SATA back to RAID the array wasn't an option in the list of boot devices. Scared me momentarily, until I pulled out my flash drive and the array suddenly became an option again...
It sure is - see link for more detail. http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/3-post3.html I am sure I saw a thread last year where Supershanks gave Mono666 same advice - Mono666 did it not work for you in the end?

Hey guys i've followed this thread for along time and just signed up to post in it. I've been running my e6750 @ 3.6 fsb : 450 with ram at 901 w/ 4-4-4-12 timings for along time now. I use the 06xx bios and recently flashed to the 07 and couldnt boot with my usual settings, matter of fact i couldnt get past 425fsb with my usual settings, i think it had something to do with the cpu and NB skew even though i tried different ones. Check the asus forum, they were saying this bios is for the p5k3 (pretty sure they said the p5k3 b/c it wasnt our board for sure and was originally on the asus site for that board) then it was taken down. I was able to downgrade back to the 06xx bios using the asus bios utility thankfully.
It works perfectly, I honestly don't know what you're on about.
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us
Thats the thread about it on the asus forums, its presumed to be a beta bios. I will try it again when they officially release it but it just wasnt work for me and my e6750 for some reason. I tried everything i could think of even more voltages but couldt boot past 425fsb unless i lowered the multiplier, had to have something to do with the cpu/nb skew settings. Also for anyone watercooling the northbridge, did you change the SB heatsink or cut the heatpipe somewhere and use the stock one?
I've been playing with the new BIOS for a day or so. I haven't had any problems with it, but I also haven't noticed any improvement over 0612 either.
ya I had this problem ever since I flashed to 0204, and it was fixed when PCIE is set to 113mhz. And then at 0504, the problem got worse. I can no longer lock 16x at all, only by setting the fsb at 399mhz. This is so annoying I even gave a death run at 120mhz still no lock... will upping the NB help at all? I have bumped it up to 1.8v and still no luck, just wondering if I should give it more?
I would rma the board with the pci-e x16 problems.......
Just flashed to 0702 yesterday and all is good apart from, I am not able to lower the CPU multiplier any more. At least the CPU temp bug appears to be fixed with this one for me at least.
Strike that it is all good, just being a dumbass as usual.
ive been running it for over a week zero problems 0702 that is
Rich
What do these two new settings do?
"CPU Clock Skew"
and
"NB Clock Skew"
I just have them on Auto just now.
Thanks
I just got this board today.
I was aiming for the 24/7 settings of my Gigabyte P35-DS3.. changed mobos because of the Giga's HORRIBLE vdrop + vdroop... wouldn't give me anything above 1.5v
Anyway I just had to use 1.55v for NB Volt to get 500fsb... Isn't that a bit high? In my Gigabyte I never needed to raise my NB volt before 533fsb...
There are also so many options it makes me kinda lost :p
But I'm just really curious as to whether 1.55v for NB volt is ok.. Not like it's getting hot or anything...
Thanks in advance! :)
i would say its fine long as it dont get hot placing a small fan on the nb helps
Rich
okay
is there anyway to check vDIMM in this mobo?
asus ai suite also shows it i dont know how close it is tho
Rich
Never used AI suite, nice to know.
Hi
Just been playing with hitting 450Mhz and thought would share findings:
Static RAM control - seems to change two settings
1) decreases performance level (tRD) by 3 (ie when transaction booster is set at relaxed,0 tRD is 10 with SRC off and 7 with SRC on)
2) changes Read Delay Phase Adjust from Neutral to about +29T (varies depending on FSB - 29T at 450, 25T at 440).
3) Max tRD as predicted by the AnandTech formula does not POST with SRC enabled. max-1 does.
4) Everest memory bandwith is similar between tRD-1 with SRC on and tRD with SRC off (ie at 450MHz tRD6 (max) SRC off = 450Mhz tRD7 SRC on)
The combination with SRC on is also more stable as SRC on, trans booster relax,0 (gives tRD 7) and increasing FSB termination voltage to 1.2 allowed me to hit 450 stable for the first time (other settings stock - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=1182), although vcore needed to go from 1.2750 to 1.3000 for that small increase from 440MHz FSB.
Now to try 460! (any hints! :) )
Andy
I'm not using the same cpu so this may not apply but I need a PLL of 1.6v and and FSB term of 1.4v to achieve 500 fsb. t-booster is at auto which results in a perf level of 11. These settings will allow me to boot at 525x9, and semi stable (spi 1m) at 500x9. I haven't manually adjusted anything that you've mentioned so far and remain stable at the clocks in my sig. (475x9)
That is so weird.
I use Strap 333, and I only need to raise NB volt to 1.55 to get 500fsb.. no PLL or FSB Termination voltage.
Also 1.55 takes me as far as 533fsb, which is the maximum my ram will give me.. Maybe it would go even higher..
True. anyway there's people out there getting 500fsb at stock NB volts...
Has anybody found and literature on what the new options in bios 702 do?
still trying to achieve 4.5gh stability with this 8400.
http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3439/45ghzti2.th.jpg
hmm, image isn't working.
ahh there we go.
http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/3459/45ghzuy5.th.jpg
Has anyone else noticed that the 702 BIOS has disappeared from the Asus website?
no it was there this morning last i looked http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
Rich
Wow, that's bizarre, it wasn't there or on the ftp site when I looked earlier. I must have the pages cached.
Thanks, I'm going to update today.
it's never been on ftp site that i know of ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5K_Premium/
btw be sure to use ezflash not windows update
Rich
Easyflash'ed without problems.
Thanks Rich.
np always glad to help if i can
Rich
Anybody have any luck messing w/ NB or CPU skew?
I'm thinking of trying some random combinations and seeing if anything helps me get the FSB higher on my E0 Q9550.
it dosent seem to do anything for me but maybe on newer chips it will let us know i'll be going e8400 or e8500 later this year
Rich
Don't use windows update with 0702 I destroyed 2 boards trying to flash through windows.
i always use ezflash and flash drive no way i'll use windows flash
Rich
use the kodakey to flash all asus mobo ...
Easy flash to go forwards, Koda key to go back, had to do this once with 0612 back to 0402.
its sure nice knowing you can flash back if need be but im very happy with 0702 bios
Rich
thanks jason i'll be waiting to make sue i get a eo stepping and the price to come down witch i know it will
rich
Hi Guys,
2 days ago I bought a new HDD - WD6400AAKS 640GB. I made an image of system partition from old HDD and put it into new hdd. But new drive behaves strangely for example, max transfer over a copy at TC I have 50MB/s and Event Viewer I have some errors associated with the drive ("The driver detected a controller error" or something like that) ...
Previously, the system was installed (Windows 2003) on the old disk with IDE mode in the BIOS and I did not install any drivers (F6). I thought this might be the problem? That drive was SATA1, this new one is SATA2 and NCQ is.
I was thinking what to do:
1. Download and install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager?
2. Download, install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager and set AHCI mode in the BIOS?
3. Set AHCI mode, install a new system by pressing F6 and install the drivers from a floppy disk (with Intel Matrix Storage Manager or JBM36X Raid Configurer??).
4. Leave IDE mode in the BIOS, install a new system by pressing F6 and wgrywajac appropriate stery (Intel Matrix Storage Manager or JBM36X Raid Configurer??)
What do you think?
PS. Sorry for my english...
try a window's repair with f6 driver's with ahci if that dont work try ide then ahci later
Rich
no one using this board anymore guess im a little late getting a e8400 in my board but this mb still rock's
Rich
Im running one right now in one of my systems and have no reason to change it. This board rocks indeed, running my Wolfy at 4500 24/7 since january with zero problems on water. Max with this older SLAPL stepping is 4900 but Im getting in a fresh EO 8600 any day now to play with as a gift. Its a very solid board.
glad to see someone beside's me is still using this mb it's been a great mb for the last 8 mouth's or so i'll be keeping it for sometime with the e8400 it's all i need may up grade the video card
Rich
Since bios 0702 this MB and me have been friends :)
Still using it with a E3110 @ 4,0 24/7.
Did bench my Premium against my old P5W DH - latter was actually slightly faster
in syntetic benchmarks. Maybe due to tighter latencies in the northbridge?
Have a WB on the NB - never bothered to find max FSB, but it's high (well over 500).
Overall, a very stable MB - will stay for at least one more year ( I think  )
yeah i still have my old p5w dh also its my back up still running strong and i plan on staying wit this mb for sometime to come 445 fsb is good nuff for me
Rich
I am still on this MB and no plan to go anywhere soon-lol! Am not that interested in benches just the fun of trying to overclock so this board work well for me. Was going to get an E8400/E8600 to play with but from what I have read , apart from seeing higher overclocks, its doesnt seem to give any real benefit over an overclocked quad at 3.6 on games so I havent bothered. Will stick with this until the new range of CPU's/MB is out next year and see what that offers over this. Might get some higher spec drives and play with the MAtrix raid some more for faster performance though.
thank about some drive's in matrix myself have some on my p5w dh
Rich
Hey guys, having a weird issue with this board, after playing around with a gentoo livecd and then proceeding to reboot as normal, well it won't! It will power up and stay powered on but no post, no video, no power at the usb ports, nothing but fans/lights to indicate it is switched on.
I have switched cpu and ram out to no avail so im pretty sure it's the board.
A bit of a shot in the dark but maybe somebody can help, I'm all out of ideas...
have you tryed clearing cmos by pulling power from wall then remove the cmos battery and setting ctr jumper on 2/3 for 10 to 20 min.s
Rich
have you bench test it with just the cpu one stick of ram and video card
Rich
if that dont work make sure you hook up a case specker and try it without any ram see if you get any beep's
I don't know if you're all aware, but BIOS 802 is up on the Asus download site.
Version 0802:
Description P5K Premium/WiFi-AP BIOS 0802
1. Fix the system may show "Failed to flash!" in CrashFree.
2. Fix Realtek Lan function may not function in Vista and WinXP when AI-NET2 is enabled then disabled in BIOS.
Has anyone tested the new 802 bios? Thanks
i've been using it for three day's all seem's well oc no better but just as good haven't seen any real change's
Rich
Thanks for the info. I might not update just to keep my Vista SLIC tables (which I own a legitimate license, I just don't want to use my serial number :P)
If you own a legit key just use it? Or maybe just add the SLIC to the new bios? ;)
dont think your missing anything by not updating to 0802 bios it seem's the same as 0702 to me
Rich
@kup,
I don't want to have to call MS because I reformated my pc too many times ( I do that too often :P). SLIC solution = register ASUS certificate, enter OEM serial, instant activation without internet :) Also I'm using a premodded bios that was known to work. I don't want to have to be forced to upgrade my system and I don't have a SPI flasher to fix it up if something goes wrong :P I'm a lazy guy, and TRUE 120's don't help :(
@w2richwood
Thanks again.
Yes same issues overhere 2 using bios 0802, e8400 and 2 gb ram corsair c4dhx, after i power down the board completly (by umplugging the power cord) , no video post for me. Also if i put the memory modules on the black slots the pc hangs after usb checking and afterwards no post for me, only if i reset the bios
. Seems fine though running the memory in the yellow slots, still has problems with Samsung 750gb hdd ahci no raid, event viewer errors and random BSOD . Big dissapointment the p5k inside senzor comming from an old abit ab9 quadgt which got 3 times more inside information than the black pearls. By the way with eist and c1e on only if i let the cpu vcore on auto, the vcore will go down to 1.05 as on abit ab9 quadgt , but if i put it my self the vcore wont go any lower:((( good old abit:(( vcore on auto on asus is 1.264v for 9 x400, working vcore for 9 x 400 tested stable on abit and on the black pearl 1.215v:((
Otherwise a rock board, able to boot with my e8400 without any issues @ 550x 7
new bioses are available from asus, anyone tested them?:(
nope why fix someting that's not broke i'm happy where i'm at with my e8400
Rich
It overclocks better. I was stuck at 530 FSB 8.X multi for 4.25ish Ghz. Now am at 4.47 Ghz 8.5 mutli. WAS at 4..5 Ghz OCCT stable....but I fubared it. Will get it back there with a bit of tinkering. Guys on asus forums are claiming around 15% OC improvement.
This new BIOS is no joke. I can get 9.0x/500 FSB and 8.5x/530 FSB OCCT stable now. That was impossible for me with 0802. Screenies here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=5422
and here:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=5430
Are you talking about the 901 or the 1001? I am still on the 802 and could always use a better one in terms of clocking.
The 1001.
I might have to check that out even though my current 802 works rather well, my max bench able FSB is 588 with this new 823A221 8600.
I use 1001 BIOS and I'd tested and all passed very well. This is my result with stock cooler and open case:
i've been using bios 1001 since it came out clocks back up where they were no better then 0802 far as i can see no changes in bois
Rich
Looks like there's a new bios avalible - 1101.

What does 'S' means??
i'll most likely try it later on i just can't stand not trying new bios :ROTF:
I put in 1001 two weeks ago to see if it would recognise a new chip.. Talk about painless..:D
This is on air in a 72F room with a TRUE and 87cfm 120x38mm fan and this wasn't max, just what I got to in 10-15 mins of playing around..
everyone, i need some help with this system.
I bought this board 2nd a while ago and it was tested ok.
the setup is,
OS drive 320GB 3200AAKS WD caviar blue
Data drives WD GP 1TB x2
rams team xtreem 1066mhz 2x1gb
psu corsair vx550w
dvdrw lite-on cant remember model number.
OS Windows XP SP2.
ati drivers 9.2
for some reason the system is incredibly sluggish in operations. opening a movie file seems slower than my ibm laptop.
opening a folder within the data drives takes ages to complete.
task mgr does not show any resource hog.
the bios' sata config sets the drives at IDE.
AHCI and RAID does not allow the system to boot normally. just says error loading OS for AHCI.
i didnt install the raid drivers or intel matrix storage though.
