Someone :cord: me please ...
1st - I forgot start SMP and GPU client today
2nd - I like it :hehe:
:cord: :cord: :cord:
No more Whisky for you today, not untill I see that PPD added today shoot up :soap:
That better :hrhr:
Speaking of which, where is our Stats Master :worship: He's late lately with the updates :(
Woot! Top 5! :) See ya Twiggy.:wave::wave: I'd tease Thunderduck too but I know I can't keep this up indefinitely.
My folding is on hold for a couple of days, Just got the new Call of Duty, and having to sort things out with my College's IT dept. It's a long story, but basically has something to do with the schools packeteer server and filter software that isn't allowing the game to connect to the username/stats server, meaning that i CANT PLAY THE GAME AT ALL... So while i figure out my network woes, f@h takes a small back seat, maybe i'll pop a dvd in the overhead to keep em occupied back there for the trip...
Das what I'm talkin' about! This is what the last upgrades were for. :p: Everyone else must be having a bad day.

#12 producer in the world???
Amazing. Great job dude!
LOL! :) Thanks guys. This is probably a fluke one off screenie and that's why I had to snap it. I finished last week in 16th for total points in the week. I'm somewhere around the same for 24hr average. This is just a points for the day/ week (1 day) shot. I got lucky. :p:
Edit: My average hit for the 5748s seems to be in the 7-9K range throughout the day. :(
Well the i7s and x58 boards are available now on newegg so everyone rush over there so they can jack the prices up..
Congratz WFO :worship: :hump:
:wtf: and I won't say I told you so.. :wasntme:
lol, I just added up the parts, looks like it'll be about $760 for the cheapest i7 setup (mobo, ram, cpu).
ughn
Oh come on WFO, you're gonna sit around and allow this "anonymous" guy to beat you?
WFO is da man...He's our Hero....
nice WFO! you would be 11 if Pande lab didn't have all those anonymous cheats! PENALTY TO PANDE!
also, did you notice the chart above flip flopped 10 and 11.. rofl...
So, Here's an Idea for a comp or raffle or.........
The winner gets the whole team (or at least everyone who takes part in comp) to fold for him for a day???
Thoughts anyone??
WFO has enough weapons. He doesn't need my help!!!:down::down: :ROTF:
i7 is a big improvement but it isn't enough to justify the price ppd wise atm. Don't have the numbers from my head but I think in the cpu field q6600 is still the best there is $$$/ppd :yepp:
Yeah that's a single user competition, the whole idea is to form subteams which are more or less abit balanced and have the inner competition push people to do as much as they can both with their own hw and with reqruiting fresh meat for the grinder that is f@h :hrhr:
Though I wouldn't mind adding my points to WFO for a day, just don't think he needs them
And besides, I wouldn't even be sure he would enjoy it either, when you reach a rank on your own doesn't it satisfy you more then having people help you get there by donating their points
I think that will change quickly. During this race I got several "Normal SMPs" that finished in 20 hours or less on 2 cores of a Q9450 and Q6600. I also had several that completely bogged the machines down and took 2 days to complete. We seem to be nearing the point the SMPs will take 4 cores or better to put up decent points. :shakes:
Well, looks like I'll be adjusting my xmas list again, and perhaps build an i7 rig. I've been getting some extra work from my old job and I think I can swing the ~$800 necessary for the parts. Only thing I don't know is what I'll do with my current parts.....to sell or build another f@h rig?
7.5 multi vs 9 multi is one aspect, the low cache also hurts but yorkfield is abit quicker there afaik then kentsfield so it makes up for it abit but not enough. F@h is pretty cache sensitive/memory sensitive depending on the particular work unit.
My linux smp in vm running a 5101 is doing bad with points, still got allot of days before deadline left though. Problem is I can't give a linux client 4 cores, or well I could if I ran a native linux os and a vm with windows for my apps lol... don't think that will happen soon :)
See what most efective $$$/ppd wise, I would guess assembling what you got might yield lower ppd but you won't get that much $$$ for it if you sell it anyway so if you sell it you would still need to add allot of cash to get to the point where it can make you buy new folding hw :yepp:
Around 5400ppd on most 1920 point projects @ 2.9Ghz, very lax ddr2 timings and one SMP client on native linux.
Today, had a p2673 worth 3840 points was getting around 11 minutes per frame.
Another thing to consider other than the size of the cache is the fact that it is 8 way set associative, not 12 way like the 3mb'ers or 16 way like the full 6mb. It would also be good to have a motherboard that will do 470+ FSB with a quad.
That's certainly more then I thought, and checking my local etailer a q8200 is the same price as a q6600. Think I misjudged the cache dependancy there, I haven't seen allot of numbers ( as not many people here run them afaik atleast I don't see them posting numbers hehe and my memory is really bad ) but I do know the variance in work units and the cache/memory dependancy which go along with them.
Could be linux itself though, I get >5K on a q6600 and two vm's running notfred. I whish I could run the linux client on the full four cores without having to use a native linux install but there isn't a way afaik. And I feel I'm to much of a n00b to run linux and then have my usual tools in a windows vm... though I am considering it ( been doing so for awhile even ).
I forgot to mention another thing.....the fsb multiplier is actually 7x. It's the q9300 that is 7.5x. Seems like this cpu really needs a P45 board for high fsb.
Yes it is a lot harder, as one guy posted at the folding forums one time, you have to format, install the O/S, download folding, run it, delete it, delete que dat, files in work folder, wash repeat, format install O/S stand and bow in the direction of Stanford, a lot of swearing and re installs, then babysit the thing then bow in the general direction of stanford again and it might work...
 I think Dave's doesn't mind most of that, but the bowing to stanford :sofa:
Jezus I need to relax a lil, I already hear this hush from a hammer falling on my head :sonic:
I think I'm gonna hit my 2M mark before thanksgiving! :D
Update: Picked up another 2673wu. Times decreased and leveled off at around 10m21s per frame. Pretty much in line with the 5400ppd on the 1920 point wu's. Seems okay for only 2.9Ghz ram running at 420Mhz. By the way, can anyone tell me....how much does system ram speed or timings affect F@H? (with SMP client)
DrJay depends on the work unit ( or better on the core ). I think dbgromacs utilizes the most bandwidth but can't find the reference for it anymore, and like I said it's also not just the core itself but also the work unit itself. Think wu's with more atoms and especially wu's/core's with explicit solvent models need more cross thread communications ( ~ bandwidth  ).
Hmmmmmmmm so tempting.
But jeeez the mobo and ram is gonna cost me. Maybe there will be some holiday sales after the i7 initial early-adopter rush slows down...
Just a "heads up" http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=7063
I ain't touchin' mine, they be workin' fine so I'm leaving them be, they are happy now and I don't want to get nobody grumpy :yepp:
I'll not use drivers without knowing what their origin is and they will have to come from either PG ( as recommodation or w/e ) or directly from nvidia as official cuda certified drivers. I will not run other drivers because who will tell me if my eue's will be caused by bd wu's or bad clocks and not bad drivers :horse:
Lulz +1, never download and install stuff that isn't from Nvidia.com
I see a few of the big boys on my radar now... Just giving them a heads up that the steam roller is coming through.
Help me guys, I been straying from the path and suddenly found myself in a group of folding haters :poke:
Keep me on a shorter chain, so I shall not stray to far again :lol2:
I will be kind when I roll through the neighborhood. I am hoping to actually ramp up production. I guess we will see if that happens.
Haha, i can't freakin' get the CPU console client to run again, i reinstalled a vLited version of vista  I try doing the simple "Run" and entering the .exe with configonly, i've tried running the command prompt as admin, i've logged in as admin and couldn't get it to run, tried it in different folders urghhhh so i just stopped caring for a while and ran the GPU clients. Man, i tried following the Wiki guide but when i go to properties>run as administrator or whatever you're supposed to do the box is greyed out and i can't do it, even when logged in as admin.
Well i have got it to run, it just doesn't have my username and team, unless that's an issue with Fahmon  It runs correctly on my rig but i have the cmd window open, i used to be able to run it as a service IDK what the hell is going on..........i'm getting a new 22'' monitor at least sheeesh..
you went through this in the beginning of sept too King and gave up..
movieman "I never smp'ed before" used ths little guide last month and got it going after about 20 minutes.
of course that was after he screwed with it for 2 days on his own and was frustrated, and pming everyone...
then he tried this simple quick and dirty walk thru, and it worked. just don't skip through it and not read everything...
this is one of the shortest little walk thru's around. (not all inclusive for Marvin's needs ;), but it gets the job done).
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=199283
:sofa: I only ment to help ;)
if you follow step one there, installing affinity changer, you can make it easier on yourself and just run www.mtm78.nl/maxfah/publish.htm ;)
Will download, install clients in c:\maxfah\, and configure them. Just still haven't finished the tray control nor can I fully automate it as you still need to follow the guides to configure either deino or mpich :(
Ow.. and it doesn't drop in the replacement exe as well. I'm slacking sorry :(
What's more important, an installer, a statistics tracker for xs, an eue watcher? Idk  I try to do everything but I guess I should concentrate on one thing and get it finished already
Thing is I asked PG for coorperation by changing mpich package from gkware installer to zip as is the case with deino already. That would cause me to not have to shell to an external program, I can code the configuration of mpich and deino exactly as in the guides it's not hard to shell command line utils on the background and send input to it, but I feel if I would would code something to automate the gkware setup I'm doing something they don't approve of.
Even thought about another solution, getting mpich from the official site for it and just drop in the client exe, that would eliminate the gkware setup needed to be downloaded and executed. But I don't want to break eula's and like I said I asked about this weeks ago but as off yet haven't gotten a definitive answer :(
Each time I hit a bump I shift attention to another project, and the former get's neglected. I have plans with the eue watcher to connect to a webservice so eue's from people who want to participate in collection them can be posted automaticly ( if needed, like with wu's which don't send results to the servers aka 5506 ). I been working on a signature generator for xs folding team, I fixed my sql server so I'm not dropping tables anymore ect. But no single thing is done because I will hit a bump and my problems seem to make me not want to acknowlegde hitting a bump by moving on to something diffrent
I'm out for now :/ I did the stupidest thing ever , lend my VGA to my friend , Connect GTX280 to the cheapest Czech Made PSU Eurocase and you will se magic ... the PC got a rocket engine ignite , big flame from the back and voila ... VGA fried .. Yesterday I took it to RMA , 30 Days of Geforce 6200 ! Wohoo
WTH Kondik why would you lend it anyway? Ahh well indeed as DrJay said, time for some mind busting smp action on that penryn of your's
You should be able to get allot out if it, high clocks on that cpu of yours ( mhm compared to mine.. idk RR ect have the more comparable hw anyway, maybe you should ask him for some pointers  )
Ohhh man :down::down::down:
Very sorry for you.
The SMP is nothing special , even through it's a 3.8 GHz one, we will see ... The RMA was accepted so since yesterday 30 days , 29 now ... *chews his nails*
We will see ... thank god WOW is still somehow playable on it .. It's a drug that I inject into my bloodstream to reduce the impact of the work drug :para:
Yay, I finally have the net. U-verse.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/364019029.png
that's pretty good..
I only have 2 choices in my little town. Comcast or a local dsl (both are $30/mo). I had comcast for several yrs (5-6mb line, but the attenuation was so bad I only had about 60-75% up time).
so I had to switch to dsl, and it's very reliable. almost 100% uptime, but not very fast... they have a 3mb line, but want $60/mo, so I said uh-uh-nope-gouger.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/364119317.png
I wish I had more choices. I tried all the others and they all said "not in my area". so I had to go with my local phone co (PRTC) who has a monopoly on the phone lines in area code 29488 anyway. Comcast was fast when it worked, problem was they wont upgrade the infrastrcucture in my area, so the connection stability/attenuation is horrible... I still have their analog cable tv line, but cant even ge digital because it pixelates so bad.. the lines in my city suck bad from comcast. they keep promising to upgrade.. but that empty promise has been going 4 yrs and counting. and all the dsl providers like verizon and sbc wont touch the phone lines, because of PRTC's local phone monopoly...
I think I pay about $45 for internet with the bundle we have. Verizon FIOS 15/15. I love it. Great TV too.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/294248155.png
I wish I had that kinda upload. And I wish I could also utilize my download speeds all the time. about $45 for Optimum Boost.
http://www.speedtest.net/result/364508809.png
http://www.speedtest.net/result/364507507.png
Since we are comparing speeds... this is school wireless, when it isn't being hammered during the day, the stars are aligned just right, and I'm holding my tongue just so :lol2: It tends to get very slow during the day and sometimes randomly one of their links between switches goes bonkers (bad fiber line or bad port on the switch most likely) and the ping goes up to infinity and beyond. If I was on wired it would be minimum 4x faster and more stable, but they require Cisco Clean Access for it and I get disconnected every morning around 3AM and I have to log in again
http://www.speedtest.net/result/364960608.png
http://www.speedtest.net/result/364989902.png
I used to get allot more before they changed their frikken policy.. advertise 'up to 20mbit' and I sometimes got the 20 most of the time 18 and now I'm always capped at 16.. mofo's
Ahh well.. 20e a month :hrhr:
I got spammed today by about 100 XS topic replies dating back to the middle of October. Wonder what the problem that got fixed was.
+1 although I don't subscribe to many
fold3's HD quit today apparently. Powered it off turned it on a bit later and it won't boot, it goes click...........click.............. click................ then tells me it can't find a system file to boot. Sigh  Old maxtor 20 gig. Guess I'll be tearing down my stack soon to swap it out with another drive.
Hmm, maybe it was the drive that has been randomly doing a click-clack for the past 8 months? I hadn't figured out which drive it was yet :lol2:
HEY SPARKY!! KNOCK KNOCK!!
http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/sarge/Tomcat.gif
Ow yeah i see you in my mirror, gaining pretty darn quick  And fold3 being down until the new HD goes in, plus horribly buggy internet at school right now makes for a certain steamrolling.. here give me a moment to try and move over out of the way! Don't hit me too hard on your way by ;)
I need to start getting more systems up before the New Year.
New HD in fold3... won't install windows, it gives an error at the exact same point where it can't read a file, and no file after that. It doesn't even spin up the CD and try. So I tried a different CD, same thing. Different optical drive, same thing. What the heck.
Is it blue screen or Windows notification? Which OS? If it is blue screen than give us the stop, file, and parameters. If need be load recovery console and get the dump and email it to me. Have you checked memory? If it is the same spot every time than it may be a bad memory sector.
This is during windows install, before it gets to the GUI. It just stops at saying "file cannot be copied" and asks if I want to retry.
I'm running memtest right now.
memtest passed fine. Cleared cmos, still borked :wth:
I'm beginning to wonder if it is a board issue.
I'm going to bed and working on it this weekend. Maybe it is the replacement HD, I don't know... geez.
What drive? Sata? Which controller? I had the same thing often with jmicron controller on my sata drives, had to run in compatibility mode or something to install the os then switch it back ( or use another port :poke: ).
Check cables, remember SnW was trying for days to install XP before he changed cables and voila, same happend to me btw :sofa:
I had a xp disc that would not install one time, I got to looking and it had a very small crack right on the edge of the disc like it may have been dropped or something. I called M$ and they sent me a new disc for a fee, after that no more problems...
This is old IDE stuff.
The old drive won't initialize in any computer, it just goes uhh duhh I dunt no wut dis is? :p:
Replacement drive works, I have used it before.
Replaced all the data cables. Twice.
Tried swapping IDE channels.
Replaced the optical drive.
Tried two different windows install CDs.
Ran memtest, memory checks out fine.
Cleared CMOS and reset everything just to be sure that didn't get confused somehow.
Windows XP install sees the drive, partitions the drive, formats the drive, then copies files up to 31% where it reports it can't copy this file and refuses to go any further.
Sparky, I've had this happen to a few computers at work. It was the memory. How many passes did you run memtest for? Do you have any other memory you could try? Have you tried different memory slots on the mobo? If all else fails it might be the board...but lets hope it's something simpler.
Memtest ran 2 passes before I said screw it and went to bed last night. I have some other ram here I can try.
hmmm another crazy thing to try is create a different sized partition on that drive and start the windows install after that "spare" partition. That should tell ya if it is bad sectors or something wack with the drive...
my bro's drive is like that. 40GB drive now 30GB lol but it has worked that way for years.
Got it working. It didn't like the replacement hard drive for some reason, put another one in and it installed fine  Such frustration
It'll be up and running soon, gotta install all the drivers and updates and such first.
I got all 5 cards up and running again. I hope my ppd increased. My past few days sucked.
Gahhh if it isn't one thing it is another :shakes: My SMP is on an EUE streak - again! Last time it did that it required me to drop 200MHz off my overclock. I sure hope my q6600 isn't crapping out, it shouldn't be, temps are well in check (50C max), volts aren't crazy (1.45v).... dang it!
So the past few days I've had NO SMP units get turned in. They keep dying at 55% every single time. Wait..... they are all the same. R3, C491, G70. It's gotta be a crap unit that just keeps running over and over and over. Time to nuke that work folder I guess and report a busted unit.
Deleted that folder, started SMP back up and it downloaded another one  Nuked it again, this time it got something different. There are only 2 things that bug me about SMP - how finicky it is about the ethernet connection, and how if it gets a dud unit it won't report it as such but just keeps folding it over and over and over and failing over and over and over.
I'm a faliure ): Not only the GTX 280 is on RMA 2 days ago My MOBO and 4 Corsair RAM modules went there too .. The only thing I can now crunch is my family pack of crisps ... who's the winner of the best Xmass present that the God of Silicium gave to somebody ?
Wanna be my santa and I'll be your santa kondik? For xmas I'd give you a Q6700, GA-X38-DQ6, and 4gb DDR2-1000 Mushkin memory. And what I'd like for xmas is $300. ;)
Dang that's a pretty darn good deal there! I'd do that if I had the moolah hehe.
Sooo... power efficiency numbers. I just hooked all my crunchers up through my Kill-A-Watt. All my crunchers + network switch + router + KVM. My main PC is separate, I've already checked it ;)
Drumroll please:
Total watts: 960W
Total VA: 1370VA
Power factor: 0.70 (thanks to none of the crunchers having any PFC :p:)
Total Amps: 11.7A
And in 10 minutes of running they have used 0.13kWhr already :lol2:
So, extrapolating that (not the most accurate but gives an idea), in a standard 30 day month, 24/7 usage, they use about 560kWhr  So at say 5 cents per kWhr, that is $28 for a month. 8 cents per kWhr would be about $45 a month. Yowza.
Yep, I think come this summer when I'm out on my own paying my own electric bill I'll be ditching the 4 single cores and replacing with the much more power efficient quad core I have in my main rig, then upgrading my main rig. Should drop the bill quite a bit. Also will see about more efficient power supplies, don't know how bad they are but none of them in the crunchers can be more than low 70% aside from maybe fold3 with antec truepower 380W which ran about 75% I think.
*edit* little update, forgot that during the first few minutes of the Kill-A-Watt being plugged in nothing was really happening. So, 3 hours gets me 2.85kWhr of usage. Extrapolating that gets me - ready? - 684kWhr! 5 cents per kWhr lands me at $34.20 a month, 8 cents per kWhr puts me at nearly $55  Yeah, definitely going to have to trim the number of old outdated systems to something more efficient :lol2:
For kicks, adding my main PC in at 360W, that is about 260kWhr in a month. So total of all my systems is 944kWhr a month  5 cents per kWhr, $47 a month, 8 cents per kWhr, $76 a month. Ouch!
I learned exactly how much I love VMWare today...have a 3800+ X2 which under windows puts out 500ppd
Put on VMWare that goes to around 1200ish ppd
I wish I did this earlier now every second day I get a boost not every fourth day
my quad went from 1600ppd per smp to anywhere from 2900-3200 ppd per smp
i was complaining because its buggy...but overall its as buggy as regular smp folding so its not much of a difference for matence just yeah that really helps
but yeah thats like a 150%:D improvement for the X2 and and a 100%:D for my Quad...I also have a E8400 thats just running on the usb disk with no hdd that pulls 2900ppd at stock (dam G31 boards and the inability to overclock:down:)
Vista smps are a thing of the past...linux and vmware are the future:up:
Hmmm... now that I've run over Thunderduck I need to get out my road kill cook book. I forgot the various ways of preparing duck. :)
Let's see, like I was sayin', duck is the fruit of the air. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, duck-kabobs, duck creole, duck gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple duck, lemon duck, coconut duck, pepper duck, duck soup, duck stew, duck salad, duck and potatoes, duck burger, duck sandwich. That- that's about it.:rofl:
:wave::wave::wave:
:wtf:
You guys are all Xtreme!
Nothing but an uphill battle from here. Dak and RR show only 3 months to overtake but I'm going to have to start robbing banks if I want to keep my electricity crack pipe filled. :( As Mike already noted, folding rehab is a :banana::banana::banana::banana: and those doctors don't know :banana::banana::banana:!:rofl::rofl:
LOL... just passed RR for 3rd while he's occupied elsewhere. :) It's been a good month with 2 overtakes this close to the top. I've gotta get off the electricity crack pipe though. :( I need money for new parts. I started moving yesterday. I should have internet access at the new place tomorrow but expect a major points drop. I had target fixation and reality is catching up with me.
Merry Christmas to all my Xtreme teammates just in case things don't go as planned and I am without service after tomorrow for a few days.
good luck on the move. merry xmas!
+1
Happy Holidays to everyone! This is the best team out there.
Merry Christmas everyone!!! :up::up::up:
Merry Christmas to me, fold6 is throwing BSODs
