Any ideas ? Tried Bios 614, 711 and 801 till now. CPU is E6400, testing with 6x multi. Ram is Cellshock 1000 so it should run fine at 420. Hope anyone can help cause 3200 on an E6400 is not exactly what i expected :)

ok, so 801 bios works with p5b dlx without wifi, does the 804 bios work with deluxe without wifi as well?
also, whats a good free rar. file extractor?
thank you
have you tried cas 5: 5-5-12 or 15?

I'm not speaking for Intel, just as an enthusiast.
There is only one 965P chipset. There are two steppings of it out there. C1 and C2.
C2 fixes a couple bugs that were in C1. But they aren't terribly critical bugs. They are both on a very mature process, so I doubt that there are any process differences between them.
Thanks for all of the replies ... I wish i was able to get my 8 multi at 9 with a 524fsb :slobber:
You guys are the bomb :toast:
just do a web search...you will find a "rar" extractor...they might want you to buy after "x" days but it continues to work after the trial period...you just have to put up with the message.
So, again where are the 0801 and 0804 Bios' coming from?
asus ftp.
Good grief, just Google 7zip. Supports pretty much everything, and it's free.Quote:

is everyone's CrashFree bios work the same way mine does? On the last 3 asus boards i had, if it didn't post once, you restarted and it would reset to default clocks in order to post. But this isn't the case now, everytime it fails to post, i have to clear the cmos, it is starting to get very aggrevating.
Mine reset to stock settings after 3 reboots with no post, I believe.

3) jmicron raid driver
4) intel matrix storage driver
the chipsets on the board need those drivers for configuration purposes,
no driver, no talky...............in other words; the south can't talk to the north when they speak different languages and the drivers act as a bridge to be able to communicate between the different chipsets regardless of what "theme park" the respective territories adopt.
why would you use a generic windows driver thats probably 5 yrs old when the jmicron driver is designed specifically for the chipset on this board for any ide devices.

1- are any of you having boot issues with Vnb set to > 1.45V.
When I set Vnb > 1.45V i have to power down and start for the motherboard to post again. Otherwise, if i try soft rebooting, it doent POST.
2- my memory (Gskill 2gbhz) did 525Mhz 4-4-4-4 2:3 divider with my E6400. However, it is not doing 4:5 420Mhz FSB. The CPU is very stable at that speed. I have to take tCL to 5 for it to be memtest stable. tCL = 4 doesnt boot for me also.
3- the link width dropping to 1x. I have the latest 0804 bios (from the other p5b d thread.) I set my PCI-e to 110 Mhz and SB vcore to 1.7V After that the issue was fixed somewhat. Now its back to reverting to 1x again. This is really frustrating.
4- What the never ending issues with the memory dividers....cmon Asus pull your act together.... and fix the issues.
Regards,
Karan
hi
i got a question on x16 pci-e
i got a EVGA 7950gx2 on my p5b dlx.
3dmark 2006 points seem to be ok (8400) with 3,15ghz 6300 allendale.
but im not sure if this is ok:
cpuz shows link width of x8 only.....
is this ok or should it be x16?
if so how can i fix it?

i've got the same problem but on my pc there are two WinXp Pro,the one from which i made the bios update has the same issue while the second boot with no problem.Quote:

my suggestion is to unplug the card, clear cmos and then put the card back in to boot up into windows at default speed to see if you regain the 16X speed.
the difference between 8x and 16x is probably going to be in the area of less than 5% for performance difference.

See you,

I just purchased a p5b and will be ditching my ds3.
I have a question though. I have read through tons of these pages and I need someone to clarify.
If I have 2 SATA hard drive and will NOT be doing RAID and I also have 2 IDE DVD burners what ports should I plug them in to and should I set JMICRON to IDE in the bios? Do I need to install any drivers during the F6 process???
Hey there :)
I picked up the P5b Deluxe Wifi + Conroe 6400 + Corsair Twin2x2048 6400-C4 Kit few hours ago.. assembled everything, plugging in the 20pin connector (I don't have the 24pin connector on my enermax), pluggin in the +12V 2x2 Plug, boot and - no post...
the corsair are for 2.1V specified, rev 2.1... I think i'll have to borrow a pair of 1.9V chips from a friend of mine...
Are there any other chances to get the 2.1v sticks to boot? because i don't think he's that happy with the whole "hey, i'm putting your sticks in my computer and give them +0.2V extra voltage"... And i'm not happy with putting them into the freezer. Does a newer bios adress this problem? It just says "improved memory compatiblity"...
Thanks!
When I run Warcraft III(I know really old) and minimize to desktop, the screen will stay black for some reason and only once in a while work. Even after I exit WC3 screen is still black. Only way to fix for now is restarting comp. Anyone know what the problem could be? Rig in sig
sure that this error is directly connected to the p5b? had the same thing with my 6800gt and gigabyte board... gpu died, problem solved :(
Please somebody help me clear my P5B-D's cmos!!!
A week or so ago I flashed my BIOS with 0711 and the reboot+power down problem was gone. This morning I upped vmch and vdimm just a bit to try out some slightly higher speeds. Well, I got home from work and my computer had restarted and was sitting at a black screen (obviously no POST).
When I restarted my computer I noticed that the old problem was back: power up and it instantly powers down. 2-3 seconds later it powers up, but no POST. All fans, lights, drives, etc. are on but no POST. No beeps either.
I've tried:
1. Unplugging PSU
2. Unplugging mobo connectors from PSU
3. Remove CMOS battery
4. Clear CMOS jumper for ~5 minutes
5. Hook everything back up
But still no POST at all. For the life of me it seems I just cannot get this CMOS cleared!!!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When vmch is raised to 1.65v it reverts pci-e to 1x mode. There are many tricks than work or not, but nothing that trully solves it. 804 bios supposed to do that.Quote:

Set the JMicro to IDE, the JMicro controller is for the IDE connector and the other 2 SATA connectors. Set the SATA config to IDE (If your not going to do RAID there is no need to set it to RAID or to AHCI. Actually I've found AHCI mode to be slower then IDE mode). Connect the drive you are going to use as the BOOT drive to SATA 1. The other 2 drives can be connected to either the other red or black SATA connectors. IYRTM you would of seen the red ports are master ports and the black ports are the slave port. Although it really doesn't matter which ports you us other then for the BOOT drive. Yes you will need to use the F6 key and load the Intel drivers during the OS load.

I seriously don't know why the HELL all you people are having problems with PCIe 1x. I've tried almost every single bios, and NONE of them had this problem, even when running 1.65vMCH which is completely unnecessary, even when running 500FSB.
If your NB is requiring such high volts to run stable, rip off the stock cooler and inspect the contact because from my experience, at least 50% of the boards have EXTREMELY POOR contact, I'm talking at least 1/3rd exposed cores.
Well, I don't need to overclock to have the second PCI-E 16x pb.
Well. Reset the BIOS, start the PC, go to set force the second PCI-E to 4x (fast) mode, start Windows : it works, it's 4x and CrossFire and/or SLI runs fine (without speaking of performances issues). Reboot the PC (or shut it off), start again, you are now in 1x mode (the BIOS says your in 4x, but it's in 1x for real) and CF and/or SLI do not work anymore. Reset the BIOS, you can try at 4x one more time...
Reseting each time to have the second PEG port running in 4x, I call this a bug. I have a friend working at Asus who see the same pb, he reported yesterday to Taipai engeneers, let's wait for a BIOS.
See you,
Thomas
And I agree with you, no need of high MCH voltages until crazy FSB. My P5B dx currently runs at 440 FSB with all "auto" settings (except for CPU and memory).
++
Tom
0711 is the latest bios on Asustek support website in english language
Yes, 0711 is the latest official BIOS. 0804 is the latest devel BIOS. Those kind of BIOS are not available for masses until there are enought modifications on it (and working modifications).
++
Tom
with all voltages at AUTO except for vcore and vdimm i also have the PCI-E @ X1 problem,
this "solves" it for me
check with cpuz if its ok, if not then turn of the pc, then turn off the psu or unplug the cable, hit the power switch few times, turn on the psu and boot normal.....till now every time i tried that it was at X16 when i come back into win
Are we speaking of the same pb ? My first PCI-E slot, the real 16x one, is always working in 16x mode ! I'm speaking about the second one, controlled via the southbridge.
Modos : maybe I'm not in the right place, I saw a P5B DX pb thread too...
++
Tom
im talking about the first one the "real" one
Have you tried the 0804 bios? With it temperature rise 3-4 degrees. Why?
But with this bios I am able to rise the memory voltage higher than 2.15v
http://users.skynet.be/pt1t/P5BDLX/P...eluxe-0804.rar
i have the same ram (don't know about revision) and it post right out of the gate.
i would get a 20 to 24 pin PSU adapter to see if that is holding you back....that would be my suspicion.
what video card are you using?

ok, first of all, here's my BUDGET setup:
E6300 step 6, rev b2
2x512mb patriot mem ddr667
pixelview 7600GT
400w of psu from silverstone
my results:
7x470 with 1.5 vcore, 2.25 vdimm, 1.45 VNB, 1.55 V Term, and settings from the mem section in bios from top to bottom : 4-5-5-12-4-35- disabled
questions:
1. i know the mem probably has already reached its limit, but when i tested it with 333 cpu fsb and 999 mem fsb (other divider wouldnt work - didnt pass SPI 32M), it works fine (tested it only with spi 32M and 3dmark2k5 though). And actually i can still reach 480 fsb, but it took much looser timings and lots of volts. I dont know why, but my mem sticks will only work problem free with 2.25V, no more or less than 2.25!! Even if i loosen the timings (still @470) with the exact same settings above (volts, freq etc.). Now the question is, if i use higher mem sticks, lets just say pc 8000 sticks, am i will be able to reach 500?
2. Has anyone who had onboard sound problems already found the real solutions to make the scratching and popping sound gone forever? i found that when im using that DTS driver from asus cd, no matter what i do, i cant get rid of that annoying sound. Already tried to put a check mark in the DTS dialogue box that says "Small Speakers", installed new sound drivers from asus site, installed ms hotfix from asus cd, and those didnt help at all. BUT, when i use the non DTS driver that was also in the asus CD, its almost gone completely, but not all (still sounds annoying in few games). All i did is to click a tiny button in the soundmax dialogue box that says "default audio settings" and then raise the volume ONLY from the master slider, NOT from the wave slider
looking forward to ur help guys
-tam2-
it has to be a video card problem....i've put a 16x card into in the primary video slot and an Areca 8x Raid card in the 2nd PCIe slot...the 8x card worked at rated 4x speed...i know the card would not work at 1x speed.

@Kakulukia
-Well, like i said, i tried many different timings and volt settings, but it'll just fail in SPI 32M. Example: i set 4-5-5-12@470 2.25V ==> works great, BUT 5-5-5-12 all the way to 18 at any voltage ==>wont go through more than 4th loop in SPI 32M, and i know that this is weird since looser timing means higher fsb. And this sticks still boot into windows @500 with 4:5 divider and CL 4, just cant make it stable. But i think ddr 940 with ddr 667 is pretty good dont u think?
-My onboard sound does this scratching sound almost every time when the bass or other low freq sounds come in. so its not good for R&B or house musics :( .Ive read people using various solutions to solve this, but it seem none works for everybody and thats just.....sucks, more like a hardware problem to me tho
-Can u show me your bios settings Kakulukia (volts, timings), since we achieved almost the same cpu overclock. Whats your highest stable fsb?
Thanks
-tam2-
Go to the Intel site and get the lastest drivers there. The ones on the Asus site are older.
Here's a link to them.
