Neither one will do -40C core temps, you need to look at an LDBHE X2.Quote:

I'm having a hard time getting that Apex Kit with a Storm block over here, it takes a bit of tinkering dodging our customs (25% tax).
This is how it looks like now:

wow.. nice vcore vs speed. whew.
Yesterday finally popped the IHS of my 165. Really dissapointed if you ask me. I only won 50mhz (priming), but the temps lowered 4-5c. I'm expecting the temps to lower a bit more, as before the process I had the AS5 really settled (applied last time 3 weeks ago).
The batch is #441, and the most I've got is: 294x9, 1.45v in BIOS, 43-44c load, 166 divider 3.2vdimm. I ended up at 2:30am so I will try different voltages etc tonight. I'll try to keep it (for the incoming summer) at stock volts whatever speed I get. If it's still to hot I will buy a 06 chips in hopes they're cooler or lower volts even more. Anyway won't notice too much betweenn 2450 and 2600, but temps have nothing to do, 45c vs. 38c :D
But as said, really dissapointed at the moment, expected a lot more from the IHS removal :(
I glued with epoxy the H plate in the TTBT and is a great idea, really helps a lot when mounting!
Hi all! Please go gentle on me as this is my first post ever!
Im having problems overclocking my 165 with stepping CCBWE 0551WPMW which after googling around seems like a decent stepping with people getting 2.4-2.6 on stock volts.
For this cpu I am using an ASUS A8N-E which seems like a good board that should hit 280HTT without breaking sweat. Bios is updated to 1011, which is the latest one. I use 2x512mb Winbond BH-5 in this setup. The PSU is a Levicom 550W ATX2.0 psu with a 20A rated +12v rail.
Once I set HTT above 210 the system wont load into XP at all. It just stops after post.
Using a divider, Ive always tried to make the ram run at 200mhz so I can use tight timings without too much voltage through the sticks.
So for example: my aim is to reach 2.6ghz (FX60) however I will not be dissapointed with 2.5 or even 2.4 on stock voltage.
HTT280, HT3 and ram at 133 = cpu 2.52 ram just over 200.
wont load Xp at all. I try HTT250, same thing. I try 230, same thing. First at 210 I actually managed to load XP.
PCI is locked to 33.3 and the other pci bus to 100.
Only the necesarry Nforce4 drivers are installed. No IDE SW driver, no NV internet security suite.
12v rail hoovers around 11.6v according to bios.
Im pretty lost tbh. I really would like to get this chip going. Even at 1.8 it is a damned fine cpu with the 2x1mb cache. However, it would be a waste not overclocking it and thats why I bought it.
Any help, ideas pointers would be happily received.
In exchange I give you cookies! ;)
Welcome Lord KneeGrow :toast:
Looks to me you need a more powerful PSU with minimum of 36A on the 12V rail :)
Agreed!!Quote:

I thought this could be a problem :)
PSU wise I have been looking at the Antec Truepower and Smartpower series. You reckon the 480W and upwards would do the job?
The Hiper Type R 580W seems good too.
Can i just ask why? I have Tagan530-u15 wich has 33A on the 12v rail . I'm able running 3g on my opty. Do you think if i would change the psu that i could clock higher?Quote:

If you want rock solid stability check out the PC Power & Cooling 510 series. They are pricey but they are the best. They not flashy like some of the popular brands but they don't care about that stuff. They are simply selling a high quality PSU that will last you for years.Quote:

Also i dont see that much difference with or without ihs on my opty, maybey 2 celcius,i think i have just bad luck with my opty,ok it is 2665mhz prime and hours of playing battlefield 2 stable, but with prime after 45 min the load temp is 58 celsius,to hot if you ask me.
Playing bf2 the temp doesnt go higher as 41 celcius, idle 29
I think i need a good watercooler like a asetek waterchiller or something like that, maybey you guys can give me a advice,i am a complete watercooling noob.
Price is not that importend,i want a good 1

Sounds like you have not so good airflow in your chassi, if you can't supply the cool air it will not matter much if you remove the IHS...or change sinks.Quote:

I think my opty just !@#$,a ccbwe 0602bpmw,according to that grafic also in this forum, few pages back.

Agreed, as long as only one GFX card and not too much other stuff like 10x120mm fans, WC pumps etc  :DQuote:

wootsauce, I flashed my 939DUAL-SATA2 with the ocwbeta2 bios and now I can get past that blasted 274HTT cap:banana: :woot:
Opteron 165 CCBWE 0546MPMW (am I the only one with a MPMW?)
289x9 at stock volts (1.35 BIOS, 1.360-1.376 CPU-Z) prime95ing for now.
I know its not xtreme to most, but it is to me. :p:
