Its time to us make a solution for this trfc sh@t, cos seems that Asus is now very busy with their bios revisions for the Striker line up and their P5WDH bios series are getting worse.
My experiences are with this ones:
Memory:------------------boots with manual timmings passing 400 fsb?:
-kingston HyperX 6000 (infineon chips)----------------yes
-Gskill F2-6400CL4D-2GBPK (elpida chips)-------------yes
-Geil Ultra DDR2 PC2 6400 CL4 (elpida) ----------------no
-Supertalent T800UB1GC5-----------------------------yes
-Corsair XMS2 6400----------------------------------- yes
-Ocz Gold edition----------------------------------------no
So please input some info.
G.Skill PC 6400 HZ D9GMH is for me the only memory I will run with this boardQuote:

Scroll down to post 7. Many problems with this board come right down to the memory being used. Well trying to use.

I think that Gskill and Corsair are compatible no matter the model of memory.
By the way thx for your input and happy new year
The new year seems to have come with some good/bad news. After troubleshooting the ram for a little bit, I am pleased to know that it is not bad memory...in fact it is a bad board. Both slots A_1 and A_2 do not work. But one/both dimm(s) in the B slots work fine (I am reporting 2048 MB right now).Quote:

One thing though...I have one dimm each in slots B_1 and B_2 and the BIOS still only reports single channel mode. Should this still be as such? Does dual channel only work when running A+B not A+A or B+B? I remember a few pages back there was some discussion (and disagreement) about whether or not to use same color slots or not. I don't think anything was stated about dual channel operation...
Since I bought the board locally at a reputable shop, I'm glad that the board seems to be at fault and not the memory (purchased at ZipZoomFly). Hopefully he will be able to get me a new board by the end of the week.
If you want to run dual channel, you have to have the dimms in the same coloured slots. I had a similar problem as you until someone pointed this out.Quote:

You, lawry, and a handful of others are absolutely lifesavers and provide us a plethora of information when we need it, especially when we cannot find it in search.
For example, when I was searching which SATA ports to use for onboard raid5, the search does not work. No matter if I do in the quick search: "raid 5" sata, 'raid 5' sata, or if I go to advanced search and try the same, it removes the "5" since it's only one character. Digging through the thousands of posts where a quick question could solve faster is much more optimized, hence why I asked.
I very much appreciate all of the updated information that lawry and all have put on the first post to solve the problems that we *can* run into on the board, and think that to best resolve the issues we're running into now with so many pages is to continue updating that first post. IE: finding mhz wall in 8x or 9x multiplier by booting lower fsb, using memset to change tRFC and tRD to 42-8 and clockgenning up to a higher fsb, etc.
Furthermore, this thread is absolutely essential for owners of the board and a c2d, and rather than spending two+ weeks going through the 3000+ posts to learn everything, it'd be nice to consolidating to the first post.
Hope all the experts don't leave!
Nick
Yes for dual channel operation you must run 2 sticks in the orange slots or 2 sticks in the black slots. Technically speaking these are slots DIMM_B1 and DIMM_A1 (orange) or in slots DIMM_B2 and DIMM_B1 (Black)
This is clearly covered in your P5W DH manual on page 2-14. Now you se this is why I get a little wound up. Before I did anything with my board I read my manual cover to cover over and over. Even after it was up and running I read and re-read. I can just about recite the book. It is obvious you did not.
you know there is a thread here about setting up your new board for Conroe.
Then there is a Problems and Fixes thread.
There should be a read the damn manual thread too!!
OK that is my rant, I hope this helps you and anyone who needs it

merry xmas and happy new year to all P5WDH owner...
Another year without subtimings in ASUS's $220 motherboard. :(

Hint taken. Didn't mean to upset anyone. As I stated I just wanted to clear up the earlier discussion when I thought that someone reported running memory in dual channel mode in non-similar colored slots (I have been searching the thread, but can't find it...very likely that I was mistaken).Quote:

I have loosely followed this thread since sometime around pg 10 even though I didn't personally own the board at that time. I was in no hurry to build it, and I wanted to be 100% certain that the components I was going to buy would play nice with each other (and that they were supported in Linux, as that is my primary OS). I say loosely because it was growing so fast that it was impossible to remember everything already discussed.
I have one question/comment for you though: Everyone hates excess emails/spam, but wouldn't it be easier to just ignore/delete all of the "compatibility requests" than let them upset you?
I, as well as many others I'm sure, really appreciate your knowledgeable feedback, and wish you the best no matter what your decision may be. Thanks again.
Hi there, this might be a far too general question, with multiple solutions.
So my setup is as following:
P5W DH DL
E6600
Corsair twin2x pc6400 cl5 2GB
sapphire x1900xtx
mist 500w
I boot up, fans rev up like crazy, but it i have no video signal. I'm guessing its never even making itself to POST.
The fans never go down in speed. I'm thinking the problem is that the goop has turned into crap after ive applied and reapplied the heatsink numerous times, quite possibly messing up them damn pushpins (intel gotta start shipping those fans with a decent locking system :P). Resulting in bad contact and consequentially the cpu overheating.
BUT would this cause the part where im not getting any video signal?
Ive removed the harddrive to see if that helped, same problem
Ive made sure the video card sits in place. But i have yet to replace the stock cooler with something better, and removing the bad goop.
What do you guys think? Is it just a problem with the cpu overheating or am i in for bigger problems than this?
Don't forget, in BIOS to set first graphics to boot = PCI.
Keep your intial setup very basic when starting from scratch. Pull everything but one stick of ram, cpu (obviously :)) and the gfx card. If she boots disable everything you don't need in bios as per the first post in this thread...after that yer on your own...Quote:

Can't get to 3.6ghz stable. My current setup is e6600, not sure of what date chip etc. 2gigs of super talent pc6400. I can get to 3.4ghz using 1.45voltage in bios (1.42 in windows) mch on auto and is orthos stable. At 1.525voltage and 1.65mch, orthos fails after 21 minutes. Do I really need more voltage? Or is 3.4ghz my limit?
Mine needs 1.5625 to be Orthos stable at 400x9 for 3.6. On air temps were too high for my tastes, but moving to water put it under control, max is 62 C in TAT, 58 in Coretemp using Orthos.Quote:

Guys, I really appreciate all the info on this borard abot this partcular Mobo the Asus YOu Guys are one hell of a crew and 99.5% of my answers I got here, I'm dajmn near dead, can't see, 60 yrs old with hand damage, eye damage, constant pain, muscle spasms, take opitate patches (Durogesic), Liquid & pill morphine (Roxynol & Oxycodone/OXyIR), Valium, and Marijuana (Legit) and thats not all its just all I have the energy to post. IM an oldtimer NASA/GM Tech/ Honeywell guy love Electronics till i Kick. I never thought I could see enoug to install my E6600 processor let alone all the stuff I had but thanks 2 U guys u made it simple even for a damn near blind eng9ineer,. I thank you all.
Currently running E6600 at 3.6x Ghz no problems
Now IM Doing 2nd one but do have a few questions
On the INCHR can u have 2 daul Raid0 arrays? Im familiaR WITH RAID (i STILL HAVE aSUS 6800 & 6800e dELUZE MOBO SYSTEMS RUNNING AND A cusl2-c ALSO) sorry 4 the caps..
Heres the deal... I never did get the JMicron to accept a PATA IDE DVD Writer (not decently) But I saw 2 diff PCie Slot devices I purchaced them both 4 testing;; One sil 3232 has 2 internal SATA II ports (29 buxs), the next day I saw one with, get this, 1 ESata SATA II port, 2 - internal Sata II Ports and 1 internal Pat port 39 buxs couldnt resist ordered it too.. IM running the dual internal port one now (SIL3232) using it with a (37 gig)Raptor and a LITE-ON SH-16A7S. I dont know why I stuck the Raptor on there .. Anway
what I wanna do is to put 2 36 gig raptors on one Array Raid0
and 2 - 500 giggers on another Array Raid0. Both on the ICHR7. I notice (before i have to room to move everything to do this) the intel controller showed the one array with the dual 500 giggers. also the 2 - 250 giggers on the ez ports(i dont use ez back though)
I see the inchr7 SHOWS One mystery PORT IDENTICAL TO ANOTHER,, iM Still trying to figure that out and between being 1/2 blind, wasted because of the drugs, andd inever ending pain its kinda hard 2 concentrate.THats wh yI say this one looong thread has given me everythiing I need. Heck I just slap- the laptop next to the system Im working on and dial in whammo as long as i can see the text and have the faculties for a decent search I'm cool, just 2 bad i cant even hold a screw arrrggrrgr!!W@! Now that really gets me, asking the old lady 2 pull memory, etc. seems like it takes he forever and us only seconds. but im grateful, i actually built, troubleshooted, used and overclocked duo core systems. which is no big deal unless you are messed up and as old as i am.little hick town, most havent even heard of mp3 players even now..
I really never though i'd live this long (and be coherant & move around at all)
thank you guys...
at newegg the've had 2 diff 500 gig drives n sale, perfect 4 an external Esata bakup drive. even 4 laptops nice...Also have pcie Sata II internal/external ports with a pata device too.. BYTECC PCIe SATA II 300 + PATA Raid Card Model BT-PESAPA - 39 bux.. both are new cards...
Not completely true,on i975 chipset boards as long as each channel contains the same amount of memory it will run in dual channel mode.Quote:

Downloading and installing latest BIOS & Drivers helps reducing installation problems and instability of your system. While the idea is dead obvious--the problem is that we don't do the obvious. Don't use the drivers on the accompanied ASUS CD of your P5W HD Deluxe motherboard!!
For your convenience, I've listed here the links where to get the LATEST of them.
Check it out REGULARLY as new drivers are released every couple of weeks

I appreciate your input, but I think you are mistaken. From what I understand about dual-channel operation, you don't have to have the same size memory modules, in fact you don't even need to have the same speed (although not recommended). Your memory will only run as fast as your slowest module in that pair (in your case the pair would be the 1 GB stick and one of the 512 MB sticks). Try removing the 1 GB stick and you should only end up running in single channel mode like me.Quote:
