Damn, I updated bios 1707 over 1705 and now only Vcore option is auto.
How can I fix this?
Have you checked that only Microcode Updation and VT are enabled in the bios? All the rest disabled?Quote:

Yeah, it was user error.
EIST was enabled.
But I have other weird things going also, in boot when mobo is looking for IDE devices it takes a long time, with 1705 I did´nt have this.
try changing all the IDE devices that aren't in use to Not Installed. You can change those settings on the first page of the bios.Quote:

Sorry to say that I've messed up three 3.4C northwoods, one severely, by running over 1.575v. The first one degraded so bad (originally it was rock solid at 3.9 ghz 1.675v, but that slowly nosedived) that it wouldn't even finish POST at 3.7 ghz stock (1.55v), and the max overclock at stock became 3.5 ghz. I was lucky enough to get half my money back by selling it on oc.com forums as a stock chip. And being disabled, I can't go around wasting money like that.Quote:

SNDS on northwood series is very real and it cost me a lot of money. Please don't go around saying it's not real just because it didn't happen to you. I believed what other people had posted back then and am thus several hundred dollars poorer. Do you have any intention of wiring me money for the $$ I wasted? :fact:
Anyone with shutdown problem? Whenever I select shutdown in windows the mobo just restart...
Are you running the latest X-Fi drivers? If not, try updating them. I had all sorts of shut down and restart troubles running the X-Fi drivers from the CD that went away after the update.Quote:

You also admit that you are a unethical pile of garbage. Selling a processor you knew was bad to some poor bastard for any price is not right!! Thats what they make garbage cans for. So run along and leave the real OC'ing to those of us that don't wet our pants everytime we hit the delete button when we are booting up. Have a nice day...
I bet you blame every one who ever ran their voltage at over 1.625 for your problems. Oh yes and I run my memory at 2.4V and my 7900GT runs 24/7 at 1.55 on the gpu and 2.23V on the memory and contrary to popular belief it still runs smooth and fast.

Hi all,
I was wondering if the two black and one red SATA ports near the bottomright part of the board, marked SATA1, SATA3, SATA4, were the ones we were to use if we wanted to do RAID5. Is anyone running raid5 with the ICH7 controller? Does it work ok?
U can also use the 2 orange for raid 5.

The big thing that I've found to increase stability is setting tRD to 8 and tRFC to 42. You can set everything except CAS latency on the fly, so good luck finding good times.. The way I did it was boot with lower fsb (to auto set the tRD at a higher rate), then adjust tRD and tRFC in windows(8-42), and use SysTool to bring FSB up. When I thought I had a good clock, I'd do my testing and try and bring my ram timings tighter. You'll spend a *lot* of time messing with these things to get good benchmarks and performance, so be prepared. :)
Oh one more thing, I remember reading something in this thread that was very important. If you want to find your mhz wall, find your max speed with 9x, for example, mine 9x385 = ~3470mhz, then try and find the same with 8x multiplier. There was a post about the board needing original voltage for 9x to post, no matter the fsb or multiplier, so this is why you need to clock lower in 8x (360 or 380fsb), and clock up. Even though I can run 440x8 in windows, theres no way I can boot from it.. Strange stuff.
edit: found memset 3.1 beta
edit2: notes on higher fsb with lower multiplier
you know there are what, 126 pages on this thread alone. I have answered probably close to 500 pm's on all the forums I belong to. With questions on this mobo, which processor, which ram, which HDD's which raid, which PSU, which vid card, which monitor ,which mouse and keyboard and all these questions are based around this Motherboard. Well after 126 pages if you can't figure it out then you are sh*t-outa-luck. Lawry it has been a hell of a thread. I can say sometimes I wished it would have never been started. But, in reality I am glad it was. There is such a great compilation of information here. Unfortunately some are going to get this board and never fully understand it. Then they will sell it and forever tell the world what a POS it was when in fact it is a wonderful board, feature rich and very strong. I will be keeping mine for a longtime to come. But I feel it is time to let people sink or swim now as the questions are getting a bit repititious. And if people don't want it bad enough to read everything then they really just don't want it.
I am finished with this thread, here lately I have just wanted to flame to death some of those posting here. So it is time to call it for me. Again I congratulate you on a truly magnificent information rich thread....

Although I have not posted much on this thread, I have read it through and through. Matter fact, I read it again today because I was bored. Anyhow, I totally agree with you. This thread should be locked other than the OP to update the first page with BIOS releases and what it either fixes or doesnt.Quote:

To the OP, thanks for the thread and all of the hardwork you have put toowards this thread. I know it hasnt been easy.
Excuse me.Quote:

I resent your post and your ludicy.
and I know how to tweak a system quite well, thank you.
SNDS is real. Stop trying to deny it. It's people like you that cost innocent people hundreds or more, and every time a post comes up trying to pretend it's a myth, I will be there to let the truth be known. (Even if it doesn't happen in a similar fashion on Core 2 Duo's).
Wah wah you want your mommy and your binky and a warm hot bottle and of course a fresh diaper. Gee your 35 hey I am just overwhelmed. Just go away.
Go hold your SNDS torch of truth up somewhere else... all the money you wasted on that P-4ee would have bought you a top notch liquid cooling system or even better and all top notch parts to build with but you thought you could just throw money at a processor and win. And when guys like me running 3.0C's pounded salt up your ass in the benches you blamed your processor for all your problems but you were then and are still your system's bug. then I moved up to a 540J I got off Ebay for 150 and a 75 dollar epox 5PDAJ Motherboard and really stomped your ass.
And you can take that from someone who got his first computer when he was 23 back in 1979.
Admit it, your ugly and your momma dresses you funny.. you know you could hit the links on my benches and print them out and keep'em under your pillow and sneak them out and look at them late in the night. If you get my drift, you know you want to... check out my avatar, you likey?
Oh and hey all smackin aside have a Happy New Year!
Perhaps this year you will get a great OC, like me!!

PS. what the hell is ludicy?.......... Oh I get it ludicy is pure genious you resent my pure genious. Well hey i can live with that....
I hear you weldzilla, so would it make sense then to close/pin thread so less knowledgable folks who may not found answers in 120 some odd pages or gotten any response to their insulting question can try and post in open forum?
This place is impressive, I learned a few things; still wrestling mobo however and while I am not shooting for 4GHz, I still think there are members here who may gladly throw a few tips at us rookies.
Cheers
Well Trackfan if a good legit ? comes up I will still be hangin around. Dammit
you see I am hooked on this stuff. It's just that simple.

Seems like 1707 bios is worse then 1705, for me at least.
With 1705 my E6600 was orthos stable at 3.4GHz wit Vcore of 1.375V and now wit 1707 bios cpu requires Vcore of 1.415V and rund hotter of course.
I am using the latest drivers for my X-Fi.Quote:
