Hello all! I've been following this thread since late August in anticipation of building a new machine. You guys are a great resource! Thanks to the holiday, I now have a shiny new C2D system! :D

Just recently daos reported that his Corsair 6400C4 Dominator memory was working well. Unfortunately that is not the case for me. Only 1024 of 2048 mb is recognized no matter how it is installed (leading me to think that I have an issue with one of my modules) and that is causing it to run in single channel mode only. I have played a little with the BIOS settings with no luck.

Any suggestions? After the excitement of receiving parts all week long in the mail, this has been quite a bummer. :(

J33pG33k : I would suggest the first thing you do, is try each module on it's own. If they both work individually, and memtest individually okay, then the issue is either with the board, or at least compatibility with the board.

Let's know how you get on with that first up.

Anyway, since you're such a genius, please tell us noobs why we can get over 400fsb with tRFC changed to 42 and setfsb and yet always limited to around 360fsb in bios with manual timings, no matter vcore/multiplier etc.

Actually, here's a better riddle. Why can we boot 400fsb+ with SPD to Enable but when manually setting 5-6-6-18 we can't post above about 360-370 fsb?

I'd like to know what the answer to that would be.. yeh and don't say the board/bios since we already know that and you'd just end up contradicting yourself and looking stupid.. :toast:

Lawrywild, you are possibly the most patronising and 'know it all' troll that these boards can do without. So many of your posts are uneccessarily rude it defies belief. There really is no need for it and all you succeed in doing is causing bad feeling and not actually progressing the issues a lot of us with this board are having.

Look at your temperatures in CoreTemp in idle, full load, and ultra full load (prime95/orthos). Some people say that full load (gaming, etc) is good enough for them to be in the 70c's or lower, others are happy with reaching 70c's in orthos. I'm pushing 1.61vcore with water and my cores hit 70-72 in prime95.

If only 1024 of 2048 memory is being recognized, you do probably have a bum dimm. I'd agree with above poster, to try each individual dimm to figure which one is bad.

I didn't bother reading the instructions of the board once I knew which pinheaders to plug my case (power,reset,audio,usb) and hdd's into, but thanks to a few people in here, they pointed out that to get Dual Interleaved memory, you have to put your dimms in the same coloured slots. Got 2? Use either black, black, or orange, orange. However, when i had them in different coloured ones, I still reported 2048 memory, it just didn't say Dual in cpu-z or Dual Interleaved while booting.

Sorry if I sounded rude but I'm getting tired of writing the same thing over and over.. you should really look how many times I've explained the same thing over and over in this same thread..

edit: oh and it's kind of annoying when someone says "you should take this into account before blaming the board" as if I haven't already spent hours trying to figure and sort this out? Get my drift??

Voltage? I run with my FSB set at of 425 daily which keeps my 2 little cores chugging along @ 3825mhz my voltage is set at 1.65 in the bios. I have never ran my voltage below 1.6v since I got my Conroe.

Is it possible to run one memory stick at a time? When I insert only one into any of the four slots, all I get is one long beep followed by two short beeps and the screen stays black.

Other than that, any combination of the two sticks still only reports 1024...I'm really depressed right now. I'm going to call a friend and see if I can get them tested today. Thanks.

Youy Know people said the same thing about my running 1.675 into my 2.4C and my 3.0C. People all freaked out about SNDS. Funny it never happened. My 2.4C is going on three years of high voltage and it still runs daily at 3637mhz and my 3.0C is 2 1/2 years old and it still runs daily at 4037mhz. I have no fears about running this Conroe at 1.65 set in the bios which is actually a little more than 1.6. If voltage scared me I would buy a dell. But instead I buy parts and build Xtemely fast and stable computers...THAT LAST..

Ya, I ran 1.65v bios (1.6v actual) for about a week on air but at the end of the day it wasn't really worth it over running 3.2ghz 1.4v actual so I dropped back down.

Well on air I would say you are doing the right thing. I have not aircooled one of my systems for years. liquid is just so much better. I like that fact it help to keep the variation in temps down to a minimum. I also like the fact that it lets me run 3.8ghz daily without so much as a single hiccup. The rendering work it has done has more than paid for it. I encourage everyone to go liquid and run 6400HZ D9GMH This board is picky about memory and I can tell you it adores this stuff.

Should be possible to run just one stick alright. I would be trying that memory in another PC if possible... I suspect that it might be okay, but that the board might be a problem (if you can't run either of the sticks alone on that board)

Yes you may well have a board problem. Have you as of yet tried plugging them into another board? Have you run cpuz and clicked on the mem tab?
Just to make sure you did not get to miss marked 512 sticks? Still it makes no sense that it start with both but won't with one. Go into your bios and turn your mem volts up to 2.1 or more. and try to manually set your timings. I would not try to OC anything. Just run your mem 1:1 and set your timings at 4-4-4-12 to start. run cpuz to see what it is seeing maybe your sticks just don't like to fire at low voltage.
1: Enter bios
2: Turn mem voltage to 2.1V
3: Set mem on the 1:1 ok 533
4: Do not OC cpu
5: Disable SPD and set timings at 4-4-4-12. While you are there go ahead and disable Dram ECC mode, Hyper Path 3, Dram Throttling Threshold and memory remap
6: run cpu-z click on the mem tab and see how much mem it says you have and see if it is running in Dual channel.
7:If you are up to these tasks than give them a go. If not let us know we will get more specific.

I got my system up and running with alot of help from this thread, thanks to everyone that posted information that helped those of us that are new to the board.

Looks like a nice box! I noticed you have a copper cpu waterblock, but could not see where your cabling was going. What setup do you have, and where are your radiator, pump, and resevior ?

I can run stock volts till 3.15 after that i need extra juice currenty i'm at 3.6 at 1.4 volts. (1.37v real) after that i hit a wall it has something to do with my WC Northbridge or my CPU hitting a wall. I have run this combo at 3.8 24/7 stable but didn't write down all the volts and tweaks and now i can't recreate it.

IMO it's not worth it those 200mhz for day to day usage.

This thread i think has gone way way out of scope, we need to clean it a bit. 1 big first initial thread is needed with all the day to day stuff.

That is an Exos 2 kit, the unit is sitting on top of the case, the block is the CPU-300-V13.


Another question, is the PWM temp the "MB" temp that I am seeing in PC Probe? If not what will show me the pwm temps on this board?

Yes, you can run one stick at a time.

When it didn't boot with one stick did you try the other stick by itself? Maybe the stick you tried in the board alone (resulting in no boot) was the bad one. It sure sounds like you've got one bad stick and one good one.
