wow guys that is amazing, hopefully once I get H20 my VPMW will break 3Ghz too :p:

Can anyone point me to a thread or guide (with pics etc) on removing IHS?

also if anyone is interested the other VPMW I bought (still sealed retail) is on Ebay

Also what do you think could be potentially more harmful to these dual cores, high volts or high temps? Do high volts matter if temps are kept low?

Clint and Absolute, i think you guys should be banned from posting here, you are making us all feel very inferior, i will sue, heheheee. Peeps it has been mentioned many times, but i will say the same thing, the key to overclocking the VPMW's is to keep them cool. A few degrees makes all the difference. Core0 primed for 16hrs by itself, but in tandem with core1 wont go to much past 3hrs. Temps were between 39-42C, i may have problems elsewhere, just trying to source a AD0 Ultra-D (cant wait any longer for the new DFI board). Hopefully it will be a better board then my current Ultra-D and get me 3Ghz prime95 stable for at least 8hrs.

Overclocking is going on the back burner for a while, till my new board comes...

What bios do you guys recommend?
System:
OPty 170 0550VPMW
DFI Ultra-D
2x1GB OCZ plat 400MHz 2-3-2-5
-----------------------------------

Currently I have 623 bios installed. I really like this CPU, but the temps are killing my crappy WC. I have TT BW water cooling, and it just sucks.
I can enter windows at 3GHz, but core0 keeps crapping out. Core1 is extremly strong and keeps on going.

What do you guys recommend of these 2 options:
1. Undress my CPU and get her naked.
2.Buy better cooling.

If option 2, what kit should I buy ? And I have this chipsett cooler that needs to fit with the new kit.
Hope you guys can help me out.

What makes core0 weaker than core1?

maybey a nuub question,how much power will the opteron 165 @ 2665mhz will eat from my powersupply?
I have a OCZ powerstream 420watt psu.
Sapphire x800pro vivo @ xt platinum 550/1200mhz
2x raptor 36gb 10.000rpm raid 0 striping.
I think it is to low power :confused:

YES fighting the OS - try 2 instances w/o Affinity and you get much further, same load, but let the OS do it's thing :D

Can you post a photo of a naked dual core? I want to know too how far are those SMD.

Also I found a very good tool to remove the IHS are those "don't know the english name" tools that come with vitroceramics, the one used to clean the surface. I tried it with my "poor clocker" Venice 3200+ that "only" did 2550 :D You need to use a razor blade or a cutter after to end the job, but it helps to don't get too much inside when you need to do the hardest part.

Well I ordered an Opteron 165 today and I am looking forward to overclocking it. I still need to choose my ram though. DDR400 or DDR500. I know I want 2gb but I am unsure of which one I should settle on. I dont really want to mess around too much with the volts but I guess I could if I have to. So yeah, if you guys can help me out that would be great.

Just so you know, I will be running it on an ASUS A8R-MVP board with a Zalman CNPS9500 heatsink.

You can move the card to the other slot, more than enough bandwith there for your 7900GTX.

all peeps with 170 0550VPMWs, provide your batch # if you do not mind, i am compiling results and making a chart, so far it just goes up and down a lot, i am curious if more points on it could reveal any patterns
