I have an Asus P5W DH motherboard and I am trying to install a Thermalright HR-05 heatsink. I tried using the Asus clip when installing it, but the cheap piece of crap broke. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get this cooler (or a similar cooler) attached to the motherboard? This is pissing me off.
No matter what I do I cannot get 400 FSB.
I disbaled Hyperpath 3 yet no go! How much voltage should I be giving the mobo?
400 fsb should be stock MCH volts. It is for me and several other people anyways. What cooling are you using on the nb?
Stock cooling.
I might go ahead and go pick up an aftermarket but I no tempetures are not the issue.
It just loops and loops.
I have enabled disabled SPD Timing meaning I can adjust the timings to my likings but still no avail.
Well ladies and gents, I have some good news. I recently sold my OCZ and purchased some Corsair PC6400C4D Dominator memory and fired it up on the ole P5WDH Deluxe. Well, currently at 400x9 with 3-4-3-9 timings running solid as a rock. I just gamed in Rainbow Six:Vegas for about an hour and absolute rock stability with MANUAL timings at 400fsb.
It looks like the Corsaid C4D is capable of running manual timings with a fsb over 360 on the P5WDH.
I just thought I would pass this information along as we are all on a search to find a fix for this bug. Well, this is one way to go about it. Change memory.
Ugh, this frustrates me. I have the CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500), and I can't hit 400 with a cpu week that many people can.Quote:

Just for the record my memory is Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4D v1.2. On the little sticker that shows the model of the memory it shows v1.2. I thought that might be of help to you guys.
This is one fast motherboard once its working correctly, even at a 'lowely' 400fsb. I cant imagine those of you who run 450 and up. This is all with chipset voltage set to auto. CPU 1.575v 3600mhz load temps 38c/water. Chipset temps are loaded at 35c. Ambient temps are around 22-25c.
Another thing that is of interest is how cool these modules run even under load at 2.3v. I do not feel even the slightest bit of warmth. My OCZ memory was hot to the touch at 360fsb default voltage. Corsair did a very good job with the heatsinks on this memory.
My 400 FSB P5W DH needs 1,6V MCH to run it rock stable :)Quote:

Guys I'm simply wondering if its normal that when I crank up my E6600 @ 3,2 GHz (400 x 8), I need 1,425v and when I try 3,3 GHz, I need 1,475v...
These voltages seem a bit high considering I got a week 26A CPU... BTW I'm using the stock cooler atm maybe it affects something...
Thanks
Overclocks aren't supposed to be normal. You're pushing your CPU past where it's supposed to run, there is no real logic to how it will run with a 1 GHz overclock.
I tried memtest the other day, 3-4-4-12 DDR670 with DDR2 1000 4-4-4-12 binned RAM, FSB 450, RAM 2.3v, MCH 1.75, ICH 1.2, FSB 1.4. It failed after six hours and 20 minutes, 15 and a half passes.. it hung there.
Now at that same speed, I can't do more than ten minutes of memtest.
I tried 440 FSB with the same general settings, and it froze after about 25, it rebooted.
I cleared CMOS and tried again.. now it doesn't see my DVD drive when I try to boot off of it to run memtest? It never showed up as a DVD drive in the BIOS, but if I hit F8, I could always choose it to boot from.
This is by far the most borked board I've ever dealt with..
Mine E6600 week 23 can't either. I was able to get 390x9 tops so wouldn't be strange.Quote:

I have tried *so* many bios configurations that it's not even funny. My mb can go up to 1.85 MCH, which I've tried stock (doesnt help my fsb at all with 9x multiplier). The memory is rated 5-5-5-15@533mhz ddr2, but i'm actually running benchmarks and things at 5-3-3-10 without a problem at 385*9. It's when I try to go higher that I seem to hit a wall.
The CPU is getting 1.57 or 1.58v, ram at 2.3 (it's rated 2.2v), 1.65mch now, but I've tried even pushing 1.65v, 2.4v ram, 1.85mch and havent been able to get over 390 with 9x.
I did try stuff with 8x and was able to run 8x428 with 1.60v to cpu and i don't remember the other settings (was late at night), so I've decided to stick with 9x until I can figure out what my problem is. I know the NB cooling will help, but from what I've read on this board, other people with my ram are not able to clock it high on this mb. On nforce680i chipsets it's just fine, cause I saw several people in their forums with same cpu and mem able to hit it without a problem.
Edit: I'm thinking it would probably be easier to sell my mb and buy the nforce 680 one than selling the ram, but I may run into an issue if I do the NB mod (unless I put it back). Anyone know if the Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II Northbridge
Cooler CL-C0034 would be compatible on the nforce 680i NB ?
So I tried your suggestion with 1.6 Vmch +400 fsb and it dosen't even boot.
*sigh*
Time to send this back to newegg? Im not sure :(
sorry....double post....see below
lawrywild - Maybe you can put "Optimal Bios Settings" so people can try them first as starting point. Just a suggestion. Of course the various people can submit their bios settings to you.
I think I may send this back to newegg and get a P5B-Deluxe.
Or I could get an E6700 and with the 10X Multi be happy with 370 FSB @ 3.7 GHz. But that would be more exspensive. Also, does updating the bios to 1707 help the FSB? Im on 1407.
+1 for optimal Bios settings. That would be great.
Can somebody please recommend solid BIOS config to boost E6600 / Corsair Twin2X2048-6400PRO by 10-15%? Mobo is giving me fits. Bios is 1606. Running 266MHz x 9, FSB 1068, Core 1.31V, 5-5-5-12 to maintain 2.4 GHz clock. However, sometimes rig runs only 1.6 Ghz with 6x multiplier for some strange reason. Using CNPS9500CU cooler in P180 case with decent fans, PSU is EnerMax’ EG701AX
Also wrestling:
-controller conflicts AHCI, jmb and sil (AHCI and Ez Raid0 don’t get along)
-windoze reset of XP theme (Luna, sound, screensaver, ACPI )
-unreliable dual monitor support
I’ll work through periphal issues but like to dial-in solid Bios config first . So I came to the source….
Cheers
FP

Hey syne I'l give that a shot, it looks good! :)
But yeah, Unless I can get over 420 FSB, I will probably be sending this board back and getting an Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi. I need high fsb :)
guys ...
I read an article on Madshripms about C2D and mem timings where it was said that they are not important as much as they used ot be on AMD systems.
the difference in performance in most cases is between 2-3%
so if my 667Mhz ram runs at 825Mhz at 5-6-6-18 ... who cares right?
syne_24 I wrote down all your information and I punched it in my BIOS.
Im using 1407.
I then saved it all, rebooted, and to my amazement for the first time ever, Windows was loading!:D
But then when windows was done loading, I got a BSOD, and my system went back to defualts again.
Would the new BIOS fix this? I wouldn't mind flashing or using asus's EZ Flash, but I odnt have a floppy drive.

Could you post all your settings maybe? I would REALLY appreaciate it.
EDIT: I demand to know how you obtained such a high FSB on your 4GHz Bench? Please :D
