@Mongoled
Whats your ambient temp and case temp dude?
Im running @2900 1.42volts
My CPU is 48*C loaded ...watercooled!!! My chipset 47*C
The problem is my room temp is 26*c and my closed case temp is 38*c.
I could get better benches by simply taking off the side case and opening the window but i just dont find it comfortable freezing my nuts off.
This is a great CPU considering my 'constraints' and even with those temps, my 2900 is rock solid :woot: ...ill post some screenies later :D
Any suggestions? :)
I posted this in the WR thread, and haven't got official word yet, so can't claim it yet :p: but it's higher than the current WR listed in the thread.

Just finished building my PC :toast:

The reason why it doesn't understand my memory clock is because of the 11x multi. With the 10x multi it reads them correctly, but I haven't tried reaching that high on 10x and really not too concerned what the memory is running at as it's only a suicide attempt.
:woot:
WTH, 11x Multi!!:eek:Quote:

Righty, ive just stuck my thermal diode into my case just for you :) and the temp is 33C, ambient temps outside the case is abt 26C . My nthbridge is at 42C and my PWM is at 51C (have 80mm fan over it), this is whilst priming. Please note tht im running naked and have lapped my core slightly. Wht does your WC loop consist of, doh, forget this questionm i just checked your sig :p: 2900 at 1.42 is great, is 1.42 a windows value or did you measure with DMM? Your case temps seem quite high compared to mine and i live in Cyprus! My low case temps are helped by my setup, i have my rad on top of my case and air is drawn from the button across the components and out the top.Quote:

I think you got to find a way to improve the airflow in your case!
Nephilim,
Nice clock, im sure tht your overclock is helped with the higher multi you can run, wish i could do the same to mine
:D
ok after doing some LONG testing here is what I have come up with my 0550VPMW as far as overclocking goes...
Cpu Overclocking
Bios.......Speed
With IHS Still on.
1.350 2600Mhz
1.375 2680Mhz
1.400 2720Mhz
1.425 2750Mhz
1.450 2800Mhz
1.475 2820Mhz
1.500 2860Mhz
1.525 2860Mhz
1.550 2860Mhz
1.575 2880Mhz
1.600 2900Mhz
***These speeds are for Core 0 only....Core 1 is strong like bull!
Seems ok but I have seen alot better....does anybody know if I were to cut off my IHS...will the factory cpu bracket still allow me to make flush contact with core using storm waterblock?
this is what I am referring to:

Hmm, maybe I should throw mine in the freezer for a couple of days...:p:Quote:

No problem using whatever cooling after removal of IHS, but caution is allways adviced..both when doing it and when mounting cooling.

I think most of the heat inside my case comes from the v. hot heat pipe solution (ASUS A8N32-SLI),ive got the special fan on the heatpipe 'rad'.
I might take that off and use a good northbridge cooler,is it worth putting one on the southbridge?
Im gonna take 1/2- 1mm off the waterblock i have-NexXxoS XP-and lap the core a little (now that i know its not too hard :)).
It's a 3 gigger for sure,but i have to control these temps. :D
Oh your chip is most definately a 3 giger :p: , I wish i had your chip or even better Clint's chip hehehee, maybe i should meet a Swedish girl this summer and get her to seduce Clint then steal his chip, hehehee.Quote:

Hehe, nah...the Swedish girls are boring...better you send over Demetra Eleftheriou here to seduce me...that might just work!:DQuote:

Grinch...this is gonna be very interesting....I'm standing by for results:banana:
This is Core 0 only Core 1 is way stronger...
CPU Overclocking
w/out IHS
Bios..........Speed
1.350 2680Mhz
1.375 2740Mhz
1.400 2770Mhz
1.425 2820Mhz
1.450 2830Mhz
1.475 2870Mhz
1.500 2890Mhz
1.525 2910Mhz
1.550 2930Mhz
1.575 2940Mhz
1.600 2950Mhz
Gotten better w/out IHS still have a weaker Core 0....Core 1 is String as hell!
seems stable to me:
http://s2.supload.com/thumbs/default/stable.jpg
The pattern seems to be that core 0 is the weakest..not mine though :stick:

Well my luck is not so good..I just a nice new 170 0550 VPMW batch 574
I threw it in and set to 2700 with auto vcore and posted and booted into winxp slighlt slower than my other 170 0546 XPMW
SI 120/Nexus fan/AS5..smallest dab I ever used on center of cpu
idle temps were 4-6C hotter(31/33 vs 37C)
So i said what the heck..ram prime 95 and crashed faster than blink of an eye on core 0
needless to say I tried other vcores up to 1.4v bios setting and no go..so for grins tried 2800..again smoothly loads winxp, no crashes , hangs...but nothing with Prime 95 will run unless I give 1.375x110%...tried for a few minutes and stopped as temps rapidly moved to 55C
I am sad to say the least..I really hoped to get 2800 on low vcore....not going to happen from my experience with these opteron
this cheap acts very different if I oced too high on my 0546 170..ie 2800...it would crash winxp or lockup or really hesitate loading winxp welcome to desktop screen
I am running cpuburn program...on core 0 and temps went from idle 37/38 to 40/41
I realize I have not cured the AS5 at all....I may remove the HSF and try a thin layer all over
Prior to placing the new 170 in I reflashed my BIOS to 623-2 to make sure with all my screwing around everything was ok, ram is set to 133/100 divider and 3-3-3-10-1t
Just an example to how important airflow is, ive upped my fans to abt 8 volts, and my case temps has dropped to 27C, just 1C above outside temps. You got to find a efficient way to get the hotair out your case. And yes, do get your CPU naked, your 48C will become at least 40C!
I popped the lid about an hour after i got her :D
How much did you lap the core, just enough to have perfect flatness?
wow, i guess my other one that does 2.85 with 1.4v isn't that below average afterall. Should do over 2.95 easily with IHS removed.
Neal
I'll say it again, these chip are almost TOO temperature sensitive. If you get the temps down i'm sure it will go further. Might have to consider removing the IHS. A lot of guys are buying watercooling JUST for their VPMWs, like Grinch. And watercooling on a naked core is what makes these chips happy.
How does 1 guy here in the forum get 11x multiplier with a opteron 165?
I can only get multiplier 9
I also removed my IHS today and going to test tomorrow,it is much cooler now @ 2665mhz 1.42volts :toast:
for $hits and giggles decided to pop lid on 0546XPMW here I am at 1.475V(bios) idle in windows:
http://s2.supload.com/thumbs/default/smart.jpg
This is about 8-9F degrees lower than 0550VPMW at 1.45....
also will post load pics as well but this chip loads at 35C instead of 37-39C on 0550VPMW....wierd?
