Ah ok I just recieved my board today, my E6600 and put it all together

Specs:
Asus P5W DH (duh)
Conroe E6600 31B (YAY)
OcZ GameXtreme 700
WD 80GB SATA
WD 80GB SATA
WD 200 GB SATA
Sony IDE RW Drive

Ok so whenevr Im installing XP I get to the point where all the drivers have loaded and Im at the part where I press enter to go into the setup.

Well it says my hard drives aren't detected so I guess my SATA hard drives aren't working properly or it is a BIOS Issue. It then says rebooting in 15 seconds and it reboots and Yeah im kinda stuck.

I dont know what BIOS im on as I haven't flashed any BIOS, Im just on "stock"

what mode is SATA configured as in bios?

Standard IDE/AHCI/RAID?

ACHI and RAID need drivers to be detected in windows xp installation, standard IDE doesn't

Would that be under Chipset then Jmicron Controller ?

Sorry Im a total noob, I never had any of these types of problems on my lanparty.

Ok I found it and I set it to SATA.

But now I cant get my CD rom Drive detected. :(

I tried both IDE slots and made sure it was the correct cable and no avail.

The jumper on the CD Rom is set to Master, while I took off the jumpers on all my WD HD's.

Then move the RAID-0 drives to the new controller and then ghost from the spare drive back to the RAID-0 drives.

This is more pretty much what I did, including using Ghost to do it. It does not work with moving from the E-Z ports. When I disconnect the drives from the E-Z ports XP will not boot from the other drive. Doesn't matter if it's on the ICH7 or the JMicron. Maybe I'm missing something simple, but I removed the controllers in device manager, etc.:(

Can someone explain what Im doing wrong?

I can't even get into the windows set up any more becuase my CD ROM drive isn't getting detected.

I have the IDE cable from the motherboard box labeled CD ROM FROM the Rom drve to the IDE SLOT under the PCI Slots. The Jumper is set to cable select.

I have my 1 80 GB WD SATA Hard Drive WITHOUT A JUMPER in the First SATA SLOT (RED)

In the Bios Im not sure but in the section where I can select sata, Pata, or SATA + PATA what should I select.

I would really appreaciate it if someone could help me out here. Thanks :)

SATA hard drives do not need jumpers set. Look on the hard drive for pin info (set it to SATA 2 if it applies to your drive)

Make sure the IDE controllers are in auto in the bios, SATA + PATA

Move the jumper on the cd-rom drive to "master". (set the other to slave if you have 2 drives)

Put the master at the end of the cable (the slave on the middle plug)

Make sure the pluugs are in correctly. Red wire is pin #1 on drive and motherboard. See photo of cable here: http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/conf_Cable.htm

Well now here is my seco

problem

When I press enter to setup windows, it says No Hard drive is reinstalled and I must reboot.

In the BIOS My hard drive shows up as IDE Slave 3 I beilive.

And on the BIOS checksum in the beginning, it says No master IDE HD Found!

What should I do?

How many hard drives do you have?

I would disonnect the data cable(s) on all of them except for the SATA drive that you are going to install windows on. That is, make sure you have the power connector hooked up to the drive and the data cable from the drive to SATA1.

Make sure the SATA controllers are enabled in the bios (not Raid SATA). The bios should detect a drive.

If it does, install windows and then connect your other drives.

forgive me, I had it in SATA3, woops :D

If you guys had to pick one BIOS to reccomend, What would it be?

I know most of them are crappy :(

I'd figure Id give 1707 a shot. So I downloaded it and Im not sure what to do with it. I see it in winrar as a rom file. eh someone help me out?

How do you know they are crappy for you if you don't even know how to flash a bios... :stick:

Yep, installed ICH7, or JMicron (tried both) before Ghosting. Running Ghost from the hard drive. I don't have a floppy installed. Using XP SP2.

I just got this mobo coupled with an E6600(batch B) and 2gb of GSkill ddr2 800. Using a Zalman 9500 for cooling. I want to take this cpu to 3.2Ghz, and I want to know the best way to get there. I will be running 1:1 always, never to surpass 400fsb.

1) Will I be able to hit 3.2 on stock voltages?
2) Is it easier to hit 3.2ghz using a 400x8 fsb setup or 355x9 one?
3) Which fsb will be more stable and/or deliver better performance?
4) Should I just OC to my desired setting of 3.2ghz right off the bat and work from there?
5) For this goal I will only need to play with FSB, ram dividers and vcore? No other voltages should be messed with right?

Hey Nicko,

Best stable with 9x 1:1 i can do is 385mhz fsb 1.57 vcore, 2.3 vdimm (5-4-4-12-28-7), 1.75v MCH = ~3470mhz .. 60c load in prime95 with my memory.. I've tried upping my vcore to 1.65 and still cannot get stable at 400mhz with even relaxed memory timings (5-6-6-18-42-8). I can boot, but i lock up doing pretty much anything..

If i don't stress my box, I'm able to get 385mhz fsb 1:1 with same top settings except 5-3-3-10-28-7 and am able to complete 3dmark06 getting my best score. However, these settings will blow me up if i try to run CCE or ProCoder (videoencoding) or dual prime95's after a while.

I'm hoping that the Thermaltake Extreme Spirit II Northbridge Cooler CL-C0034 I ordered will help me get up to 400mhz fsb w/ 9x. I chose to skip adding a waterblock for the northbridge because i did not want to take any water pressure away from the cpu cooling. Maybe when i raise my vMCH higher (maybe pencil mod), I'll be able to get stable.

My testing with 8x multiplier was only brief, so I can't give you all the specs on what I did, but I know I was able to get it to run at something like 8x423 slightly relaxed memory timings 5-5-5-15 42-8, but I didn't do heavy testing. I'm focusing mostly on the 9x multiplier.

Hmm...strange...did you ever run fsb beyond 400mhz?? With older bios?

Are you sure that your cpu can handle 4ghz?? Probably that's the reason...

Haven't been able to boot above 400 fsb with any bios and my E6700 have done 3.7Ghz on another motherboard so that is not the problem.

I think the problem is that the P5W have problem with 4x1Gb ram oc, would be great if someone could test with 4x1Gb oc and see if they can get higher than 400fsb.

Eh the best I can do right now is 390X9 (3510MHz)

Did Super pi 1M, 15 seconds, did 32m, system shut off after loop 2. Obviously not stable.

Checked the temp in the BIOS, reported 67C. I have stock cooler on right now with a 40F Ambient Tempeture on 1.45 Vcore

Any sugestions? What is the stock Vcore and how far can you go with it until it needs more juice?
