Only issue? I've had to figure that out before, thanks for the heads up though.
Easy to OC as Giga? We'll see! :yepp:

OK so I was able to run a spi32 at 6:02 but then the machine just rebooted and would not post.
After about 2 hours of trying different things I believe my 55x cpu died. :(
I think I was able to confirm this by putting in the 53x cpu - worked fine, put in the 55x no go, put in the 53 work fine, ...
I was running high v's for benching - cpuv 1.6 to 1.66, agent v - 1.064 to 1.104 with vtt (for memory) at 1.2 and mem voltage at 1.88v under cold water - realtemp was reporting 20's.
Hopefully, microcenter will exchange - too bad - it was a good chip! :(
Anyone have any other ideas before I return it?
I got 2 chips in today both are batch L045A912 numbers 2239 and 0002. The 0002 is nothing special doing a little over 51 but the 2239 is a gem, it does up to 53 with internal pll overvoltage off and so far gets into windows at 56 with it on. It tried for 57 but it froze during windows loading, it was the first chip I tested so I havent spent alot of time with it yet.
If it gets into OS but won't bench at that speed, you need more cold. My chip will boot and load os at x54, but needs to be slightly subzero to be 100% stable at that speed.
steve i gotta congratulate you man. I was just looking on the bot and looked at our rankings and saw you are the no1 on hwbot xs member. that blew my mind man considering you really started submitting in 2010. everyone if you havent yet give uncle steve a pat on the back. If there was an xs award for xs overclocker of the the year you would have it hands down and we all would agree you earned it.
you came in here out of nowhere and within a year you are number 1 xs mvp. Its frickin mindblowing man! :toast:

thats a lot of benching
honda. he's married too. that even freaks me out more. he can come in here keep us freaked out and his wife is totally cool with it.
Steve tell Mrs Ro all of us at xs appreciate her patience in regards to your benching. Thats almost a new hwbot category. married or single. if you are married and benching heavy duty it makes things 10 times harder because you are juggling the wife and trying to keep her happy and then you are trying to keep your team happy and yourself happy with your own expectations. you guys know what im talking about. ;)
Im using cold water right now but I do have a pot if it needs it. I just got the chip back in and its definitely going to need some work to stabilize 56. For the ss below I had 1.6 set in bios llc1, it did a spi 1m run but ended up freezing up just be for I could save it. Later tonight when it gets colder I may play with it some.

EDIT
Managed to get 57 to boot up. :D

Apparently I've had pretty bad luck with my random 2600K chips so far.
Here's the 7 I've tested.
2x 5.0ghz
2x 5.1ghz
2x ~5.2ghz
1x 5.3x ghz
Testing the 5.3x on SS tomorrow hopefully I can get it stable for a few little runs though I see they will not be worth much...
Maybe 32M can be fun.
All newegg chips Linux?
Thanks guys, yes lots of luck (good chips), a lot of time, good training from my teammates and an understanding wife. :)
Mr. Linux - I can't believe you can only get a 53x after so many chips, thats hard ... :shakes:
Do you think you might go higher with a giga board?
Did you read up - get any help from the P8P67 gurus?
Looks like msimax will be climbing the charts overnight also, expect a strong 32m pi run been working at it for a few days now.
He's on his way up tonight. We got some benching planned, I got a 30L and he got a 5600 chip.
Computer show is tommorow to in my area so we are going to go hit that up batch hunting and we will see if there are any goodies in the used junk as far as vga's go.
Wife's buying me a late B day present, lets see if i can join the masses of sub par 2600K chips.......
Hey Kal-EL!
First three were newegg(5.1, 5.2, and 5.0s) then these last four are from eBay.
P8P67 seems to be running smooth, have most of those settings or extreme like LLC seems to be ok.
Thing that I'm kinda messed up about is the turbo multi.. seems like because I set the multi as a turbo multi, it only actually gets to that multi during boot, so yeah it'll post with high multis without really being able to run them. Weird.
Splave,
That really gave me some hope. I did try quite a few settings on air but maybe my air was too warm(it was showing 48oC+ in BIOS) and vcore wasn't high enough....
The last chip I tried L046Bxxx that did 5.1 did try to boot at 5.5 but would lock at the end of the starting windows page and the mouse looses signal...
Dunno. We'll see if I can get anything more out of the 5.3 chip this morning.
Still wondering if its the turbo tricking me to thinking its trying to boot at 56x for example when its really just turning on the 56x when it locks...
Are you on an Asus board?
Thanks guys!
@Chew: You don't need any good luck getting good scores with a 5.6 I'm sure so I will not tell ya good luck.
Just please don't pass me too far too fast so I can never catch up to you in global rankings.
Good luck and have a nice benching session with MSIMax. :)
I'm sorry to heat about your loss! :(
That CPU did a great job during its' short life!
I still remember that I asked him to post some of his PCMark Vantage results to hwbot some time last year, and now he's #1 of the team!
Well done Steve!
That's a great chip, treat her well and let's see some more scores!
Have fun guys, and good luck! :)
Don't forget to run MaxxMem... ;)
Yah this isn't for me we are focussing on him, my time will come eventually it always does, i will have all the research done ready and waiting till then ;)
Yep maxx mem is on list Dan, top 10 should be cake if i was able to pull off top 12 with a measly 5 gig chip ;)
Linux,
Tbh i'm done with the global rat race, points for team are points for team, global isn't worth any more than hardware points and unless you have deep pockets you will always lose them.
I talked with massman about this other day, basically short version of the story.
I walk down the street tell some stranger i'm top 10 in the world at hwbot and his response would be who gives a :banana::banana::banana:.
I had the second loudest car in SPL comps in my class in the entire United states, competed at USAC nationals. Guess what, no one gives a :banana::banana::banana:.
Other than a personal achievement it ends there, no one in the "real world" cares.
My outlook on things now is this, if you get lucky and buy one or 2 chips get a nice one and get effecienct scores you are a winner, if it takes you 20 chips to do this you are a loser not in the sense that you can't hit numbers but in the sense that your broke and the manufacturer got rich. The only real winner there is intel ;)
I am still giving money to intel thats for sure.
I just got back from mc - 4 more.
They gave me 4 but I'm not sure they would have if I had not been rather ... assertive.
I knew I could count on you! ;)
Of course you're right, but isn't this true for every hobby there is?Quote:

Everything I have done so far, be it some kind of sport, music, or model trains ( yeah... :D ) cost me a lot of money, but anyone who is not interested in those things doesn't care a lot if you won an important match, or if you managed to play a difficult piece.
However, this is unimportant if it makes you feel good about your personal achievement.
That's my outlook on things, and I believe everyone should feel the same about his hobby, enjoy it, and try to get the best out of his hardware.
:)
Seems like you found a rather nice chip....

Found a rather nice one?
Yep, hard to believe my luck.
Something bad will probably happen to me tomorrow.
My general belief is these things have a way of averaging out!
Meanwhile, I want to try to keep this chip healthy until I can run all the 580 3D through it.
The chip might die before it can get to 3D like the other since you have all this good luck..
Its my turn for the good luck so send it to me and I'll do 3D!
I'm sure we're going to see some amazing 3D scores now!:up::up:
Edit: just saw your almost 5.7G pifast run! Congrats on a really nice chip!
