hi m8 i think 3xboards....someone mentioned a third one here....tic tac will know

this was a few years ago, i believe they use top quality caps these days. I mean if u really want to dig up old news, I think we can easily find someone with a pile of dead DFI boards...wait...no one bought them back tehn due to lackluster QC :p:
Strange, the Dram divider is selected through Bits 22-20 of DRAM Configuration High Register:Quote:

110b = reserved
111b = 200 MHz
Now the reserved values are 120, 140, 150 and 180 Mhz. So how can the abit board select these memory divider values higher than 200 Mhz?
not sure how do they able to do so...
but from AMD 64 datasheet... it is writen over there that

well I can't seem to get 1T to work or clock higher than 2.35ghz even at 1.6vcore. Although I did get as high as 320htt but that required me to use the 266 mem divider. Looks like my Corsair BH6 sucks. Won't do 250htt. The comp just powers down at 250htt max vdimm. Same thing with 1T, comp just powers down even when the mem runs way below spec. Venice don't like 1T?
I'm sitting looking at the Ultra bios the one with heat pipe and it has 3.55 volts for the memory as well !!!
my asus board gives me options for dividers higher than DDR400 i'm pretty sure

Got me AN8 SLI (non fatality)
Set it up didn't bother reinstalling windows (waiting for dual core for that). Bit messier wiring than DFI NF4 on my Li-Li PC-V2000 Plus due to location of FDD connector and extra power for PCI-e.... I might use extender for that cable to make it neater later and longer FDD cable (or relocating FDD bay to top of case)
vdimm looks good, my pair of stick works fine as it did on DFI (mushkin blue). My overclock didn't change much at all. (gained 20mhz but could be due to just remounting hs again). Interestingly, the temp readout is.... 10c higher than was on DFI. I think ABIT is still keeping their long tradition of +10c vs other mobo tradition. (Their thermal shutdown defaults at 85c... vs 75c of others).
Bios is streamlined and clean enough to feel plesant. The overclock on fly is cool feature... except, you can only do it once per reboot -_-;
Now, I didn't see alarmning temp on my NF4... but since my mobo is upside down... wonder how effective that heatpipe would be :P Temp doesn't look bad though not going over 40c...
With my mouse and keyboard combo as well as many USB devices, I sometimes had to start system again just to get mouse back (saitek keyboard, Razer Diamondbak, USB scale, UPS, Printer, and another hub in monitor which has my Treo 650 and few other junks, as well as card reader in 3.5" FDD)... Haven't had this issue at all in this mobo.
Also, it initializes a lot faster than DFI board... I was rather surprised at how quick it boots up. (I think I've been tamed by DFI's slow initialization sequence)
Just about all fan headers can be controlled and programmed for fan speed for those who seek noise level reduction solution. (saw 5 in quick glance... there might be 1 more somewhere)
BTW, big typhoon is not the best candidate on this mobo as heatpipe is going to lay horizontally. In fact, it works only as good as CNPS-7000 Cu... -_-; I think I am going to sell typhoon I just got and grab new Zalman when it comes out... what a waste of money and 1.5 hours of lapping today (base was that horrible... I actually had to use 400 grit to start)
warning... it use same socket retention kit as DFI... no idea what Abit is thinking... -_-; Is asus and msi like the only company that uses standard mounting now?
Anyway, money well spent so far. Bit less noisey and attractive mobo.
Edit: I got the typhoon mounted wrong... Found out it still does perform about 8c better than Zalman CNPS-7000cu... after couple more remounting... There is gotta be better way to mount this monstrosity.
Yes it seems all boards with heat pipe are version 2.0 and thus 3.55 volts memQuote:

Oh... on side note, I wish Abit did get to this board slightly sooner. This board is my choice over DFI NF4 Ultra D already after hours of using it. (no quirks so far with bunch of things I knew would be marginal on DFI board). For those with 5v rail and dead memory syndrom on DFI, this is board to move onto for safety of mind for time being. I am running 3.4v on this sticks for fun right now... :)
great work......so all heatpipe ones are with high vdimm....very very nice

After reading a lot of forums, it does not surprise me that my OC's are LOWER then my Neo 2 b/c on my Neo 2 I would get frequent shut downs or exiting out of games. The ABIT simply does not let me OC to what the Neo 2 did with this chip, but that is a good thing b/c what I *DO* get out of overclocking is rock solid. I am running a modest 235 HTT x 11 (yup, thats it) but with 1.475V which was IMPOSSIBLE on the Neo 2. The temps on the AN8 are really high compared to my Neo 2 but I know they are false readings. Mounting my XP-90C is questionable due to the way the base goes around the socket. I think I should mount it with the heatpipes facing the ram because right now I have it the other way and I do not think its making good contact.
Either way I love this board for its features and speed. My computer is faster using stock settings then my OC on the Neo 2. I have a Venice on the way with some Mushkin Redline so I'll post those results when I get them.
BTW I am a hardcore gamer and do some 3D graphics on the side, so I actually *USE* my computer to do things rather then just benchmarking. I can tell you I could not ask for much more out of my system right now, especially when I have FX performance out of a $300 chip, and do not have to worry about my parts dying pre-maturely. :woot: :toast:
anyone else with 1T issues? I might just have gotten a bad board like someone suggest over at the ABIT forums.
Did you try diff CPU? I've had diff CPU working 1T on both boards (DFI & ABIT). But than I've had Venice which doesn't like 1T on either board... (windows doesn't finish booting up)... figures...Quote:

Also, which board is non-sli and has all the features of the Fatality SLI version? This one?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127196
......expensive :slobber:
Edit: This one doesnt have the 7.1 onboard sound card thingy. :stick:
Thanks
I have been talking to Abit guys, I suggested a ton of bios options need adding and some tweaks to get the board clocking TCC* better. I get a board soon also.
No, the AN8 Fatal1ty doesn't have the overclocking features the following boards do:Quote:

The AN8 regular & AN8 Fatal1ty (first version you linked to) aren't worth considering now.
AN8 v2.0 has 5.1 audio
AN8 v2.0 Specs
AN8 Ultra has 7.1 audio :)
AN8 Ultra Specs
yup its the venice thats giving me 1T issues. Ordered a new CPU and mobo and see wassup. Good thing Newegg has a good return policyQuote:

Thought I'd have some fun and pop in the DFI OCZ DDR625 .... ummm it did not like that at all. Wouldnt even boot at 270 HTT never mind 300. At 200 HTT with Auto in BIOS it ran the modules at 3-3-3 :slapass: :
