Here's what I need in a Motherboard.

Ok, custom tailored board for my needs in ~ 1 yr.

1. 4 or 6 Dimms DCDDR
2. 2x PCI slots
3. 2x PCI-E slots
5. Support for 2 SATA drives
6. Support for 2 PATA drives
7. Copper + Silent heatsinks
8. Best voltage management money can buy
9. no onboard sound or video
10. 2 USB, 1 10/100, 2 PS2 ports
11. Dual bios, onboard speaker
12. Integrated cooling featuring 80-120mm silent fan mounted on brackets attached to mainboard anchors and held over northbridge, power management and dimms.

I picture a cooling device that replaces normal motherboard anchor screws with brackets that support a light and silent 80, 92 or 120 mm fan via plastic hooks grasping the fan's screwholes (so fan can be removed and replaced with another fan of same diameter and same or different depth). The fan would direct air over the Northbridges copper sink, the dimm slots and the Power management.

Of course this is just fantasy and a ten minute design and MSpaint work. Im sure 2 sata and 2 pata devices wont be enough for many people, but it's what "I" want. And if left of board is crowded I'd just move power inputs and drive plugs down over the bridges and cmos.

Dream on bro, motherboards aren't like cases, you can't customize them to your specific needs. I doubt they will ever release something that suits everyones needs, as they differ too much.

Aye but it's a nice dream. And the board is delivered to me by naked horny asian girls. :P

Tictac, the DDR regulation heatsinks might block the use of long PCI-E cards... and the location of the CPU socket will definatly prevent using big heatsinks in a small case. The rest looks great, especially the location of IDE/SATA/power connections :)

id say move one of the IDE connectors to be next to the ATX plug so we can reach our CD-rom drives, thats the only thing i use IDE for now anyways, and with the plugs on bottom like that, it would be hopeless.

The 16x PCI-E slots, if you want to use a large cooler it could cause some problems with the one slot at the botton of the board. Maybe drop the floppy connector or move it to the botton of the board

All I have to say is GET the Boards ready ASAP as per my seniors have mentioned. I know we will have to wait until your "AMR" Cards are ready but I read that X700 or X800XL can work with newer ones, so it should not be a problem. I, especially in Mumbai, India face this situation of "not available" as nobody is really interested in getting High-End or Enthusiasts Boards or products as prices kill. But since you are planning to keep chip prices low its now getting too much for me to wait… I and many like me simply could not afford 14000INR(approx$315) price of “MSI K8N SLI Plat” and I really think ATI can make the difference with low price and a good stable product. Still good voltage settings and a"reset button" will give enough kicks.

Why is it so little board that can take the vdimm voltage higher then 2.9volts.

because above 2.9v is dangerous to the memory controller, or thats what we have been told.

Unfortunately nobody has been able to get the real truth out of anyone, so thats all we can believe for now.

Primarily because additional voltages require additional logic and circuitry to implement, which means additional expense - keeping voltages steady as you increase the power consumption (i.e. pump up the volts) is not easy, if you add the feature without good filtering it's worthless and if you implement good filtering, it's expensive.

I'd say the most likely issue is cost, plus low demand from anyone but us ;)

In my view, a motherboard is about providing the best bandwidth and component support. Hence I'd banish ye-olde PCI and discuss with Creative a PCI-E 1x soundcard.

What I require from my OC/gaming/development rig, HD storage isn't really a priority as I have a server for that:
* S939 Support for dual core A64.
* Motherboard PSUs to supply the required power with rock steady voltage and current delivery.
* DIMM slots able to support 2-4Gb
* 2x PCI-E 8x, or, 1x PCI-E 16x
* 2x PCI-E 1x
* 4x SATA2
* Gigabit, supporting Jumbo frames
* IDE - for DVD and CD
* 6x USB 2.0 (at least 2 on motherboard for front panel sockets)
* No Serial or Parallel.

*drums fingers waiting for Battlefield 2*

I would also have a requirement for a home server motherboard, attention is focused on storage ability and processing power:
* S939 Support for dual core A64.

* 4x PCI-E 1x
* 12x SATA2, RAID0, 1 and 5 support (hardware XOR).
* Gigabit, supporting Jumbo frames

* No Serial or Parallel.

I currently use Linux + EVMS for RAID5 of 6x200Gb drives. Although that has SSE-2&3 enhancements for RAID6 it doesn't for RAID5 atm..

Memtest included on Bios :D

maybe noob question you can put dimms 2 at the left and 2 at the right of the socket???

not funky i think is a nice layout because all the dimms have the same length

Would be nice with mounting holes near the mosfets, that would make it possible to mount wc blockes on them without using glue..

my 2 cents

i personally like epox 8rda+ rev 1.1 its an enthusiast board. plain but everything you needed at that moment. really solid power supply.

1) on board audio, really nice one, or none. since theres nothing like soundstorm in any modern chipset, i would prefer to avoid crappy audio solutions.
2) 1 on board ethernet is nice. 2 isnt a must for me really.
3) firewire? no need for it.
4) serial port, no need to have 2 of them, just one on a riser as found on dfi lanparty nf4. parallel and PS2 should go away.
5) pci slots, just 1 or 2, at the bottom. pcie 1x 2 or 3 below the pcie16x slots.
6) sata conectors, on the left side of the board, as high as posible.

extreme overclock BIOS options.
a nice thing for manufacturers who are worried of unexperienced users who may use extreme overclocking features without enough know how, is just to hide them. maybe pressing some keys combination would unlock them or something like that. simply dont provide the information regarding how to unlock this features in the manual, so only ppl doing some online research would find it.
