this makes me oh-so-happy, because that was my problem from the beginning basically. i am going to do a driver cleaner on my sound card and video card drivers, then reinstall directx the latest version and reinstall them. i think this will give me some good results, because it seems to explain my problems very well, lol.
anyway, just letting people know incase you come across this too.
edit: i believe i installed my audigy 2 zs drivers before i installed directx9 and forgot about installing dx9 all together, and the audigy drivers patch up a lot of dx. i think i installed dx9 later, but it over-wrote what the audigy drivers should have patched making it no longer work.
