I've built 4 ud5h machines all with the memory in slots 1 & 2 according to the MANUAL and they all work fine.
Therefore: You must have a defective board.
Gigabyte has a little better idea about how they manufacture their boards then the cpu-z crew does. again the manual is 100% correct.

Also if you look at the pictures I posted, the ram slots are numbered the same as in the manual on the pcb between the msata connector and the 4th ram slot.

Random freezes here too using Ubuntu desktop 12.04 lts. The board is the UD5H, no OC, F8 bios with minimal config, only one ssd, 16 gb vengeance lp and a simple Filco USB keyboard. Some suspects regarding the Wacom Intuos4 I',m using as a mouse as the freeze generally occurs when quickly scrolling.

Update: its a kernel related bug affecting Intel HD 2000, 2500, 3000 and 4000 (IB and SB). Just upgrade to kernel 3.3.6 to get rid of it.

Thanks for the info & photo concerning the 2 UD5H board versions.
My UD5H board shipped about 2 weeks ago from Newegg with the F4 bios, and is the board version with the blue caps and a space in the middle of the DDR3 slots.
Initially: would not, could not boot if DDR3 slot 1 was occupied. Have since updated the bios to version F9e(beta), and the machine is now bootable with slots 1 & 2 occupied. At the same time: CPU-Z [version 1.61 x64] shows slots 2 & 4 as being the numbering.
So: for those with the (older?) "blue cap version board", I would still suggest ignoring the printed manual's "use slots 1 & 2" advice, and instead only use slots 3 & 4. Update to the latest bios version, and then see if "use slots 1 & 2" will work.

Does anyone know how to "force update" the backup bios? Had an instance of a corrupted bios, and the system subsequently used the F4 backup bios to automatically return the Primary bios to version F4.

Also: bios version F9h(beta) is now available. I'll be staying with F9e until F9(final) is available.

you can flick the switch to backup the backup BIOS. You have a dual BIOS switch.

Thats weird, I got my first board (blue caps) from newegg back in April. The other 3 ud5h's came from newegg back in early to mid-June with the purple caps. I would RMA that board and hope for a purple cap replacement.

Please explain.
Sequence of force updating the backup bios (?): power off machine, switch SW4 to alternate position, boot to Q-Flash, flash bios, power off, switch SW4 to original position.
Previous Gigabyte boards allowed viewing both bios versions via Alt-F9 while viewing the bios setup screen. How to with UD5H?

How do you know what version is your backup bios? My 890GPA-UD3H has dual bios too but I never knew how to change.

Mine shipped from newegg week of 6/18/2012 with F6 bios, and has NO space in the middle of the DDR3 slots, but I don’t know what you guys mean by blue caps. Aren’t they all Rev 1.0? Where is the problem and which is the better mobo of the two?

Shipped from the factory, the backup and primary bioses are both identical.
Newegg evidently happened to pick an older UD5H box from their shelf, which they shipped with F4 bios to me.
I'm unaware of any actual difference in operation between the 2 board versions. as long as the bios has been updated to F8 or later.

okay so you power off and flick the switch and then boot up, it will boot into the second BIOS. That is what the switch is for, but don't flick it while the board is on. You can then flash the second BIOS to whatever you want. If you want to do it from the first BIOS you press ALT+F11

Caps=capacitors. The round metallic pencil diameter sized components.
The older UD5H boards have partially blue tops, while the newer boards have partially purple colored tops.

Something funny going on with that BIOS, My BBSE wont boot 2133 CL7/8 they need 9 where as older BIOS's CL 8 boots 2666.

Don't use S3 so only blurting what I heard.... Enabled Internal PLL Overvoltage may be the problem try Disabled.

Huh sin, I thought you were kidding but... it happened here! I think I pressed the power button three or four times in a row, holding it for some small time and *bump*... bios corrupted.

S3 is a benching bios, you are not meant to use it for every day usage mate

try the latest official bios from GIGABYTE website and if still issues with resume make sure you are actually stable! Loaded defaults in bios does not guarantee stability and you may have to for example raise voltage on vdimm or fix CPU voltage etc

S3 is a sleep state... he didnt mention what bios he was on :)

I mentioned I was on F9d, then today I installed F10a but still BSOD when resuming from S3. I think the mobo is just fine, the problem is Win7 because Linux is running just fine.

Check your PSU.

Correct me if i'm wrong or crazy,

but i "broke" one of the bioses on my UP5-Th while OC'ing (it's my fault i was using an old bios). So then i could not boot up with that bios.
I flipped the switch to the working bios, then went into q-flash. Then while i was in q-flash i flipped the switch to the broken bios, and then chose to flash bios.

Now both bioses are working.

Was there another way to do it?

I think it's desigend so you can't switch BIOS while the machine is running, so even though you flipped the switch the version didn't change. But it's a qood question, the manual doesn't explain and I never knew what version #s are in main/backup.

But my bios was dead, and now its working and it's F4 instead of the old bios that it was.

Maybe i got lucky?
