I hope so too, good luck!
Rise? AmiJIm? Updates?
I updated the other thread just a second ago but for consistency i'll do it here to. the small tech shop by me only had 1 4pin to 8pin connector so I'm getting the other tomorrow at MC. My wife asked if i wanted to go to wholefoods in cleveland and i said sure... if i can go to MC :D
I'd have gone sooner but I've been bogged down @ work. had to travel for a couple of days at the beginning of the week and on top of that its been snowing nonstop for about 2 weeks now so going after work hasn't been an option since its about 45m-1hr away from me in normal driving conditions
also, i won't be crunching next week at all because i have to go to tulsa for the week for work again and my other half won't allow me to leave my computers on if i'm not around
Well it sounds like you've got a plan. Drive safe in that snow. It got cold here this week, only topping out in the low 60's
brr.. i remember those days having lived in the midwest most of my life. I miss the snow but ONLY when it's fresh and pretty NOT after it starts melting and gets all brown and dirty..i'm not too picky haha
Well at least the country doesn't shut down when you have ~6 inches of snow :shakes:

I mean come on, it was only -18c (-0.4F) :surf:
Edit:
This is even better;
"Snow could cost UK economy £1.2 billion a day"
http://www.totallymoney.com/news/ind...billion-a-day/
£1.2 billion ~$1,895,933,858.41
By the way, any luck in getting a BIOS image modified to fully support ACPI? Linux is getting tiring for me... yeah yeah I know, it is "better" but I can't stand it, there are too many things that just don't make sense about it that can't be worked around or are hard to deal with that drive me nuts.
do you actually "use" your arima setup? i haven't touched mine for months..
Crunching only. But from the looks of things, I need to keep an eye on it as I've had issues with BOINC doing weird things before. I followed the linux how-to thread and found out after the fact that it had directions to using an old pre-release version of BOINC, so I'm blaming it on that version. But every time I try to upgrade it, BOINC manager cannot connect to the local host and sits there. Heck even with the one that is working, if I make a shortcut on the desktop to it, it won't work. It is like it loads an entirely different instance of the manager totally separate from everything else, it is really weird.
Meh. Linux > Me.
i hear ya man, i have a love/hate relationship with linux too. Luckily i haven't had those problems. Maybe you should just start over and install everything fresh
Heh I'm afraid if I do I won't get it working at all :p:
it'll work. although installing packages downloaded from the web is way harder than it should be. whats the version of boinc in the repositories now?
I'm hardly what I would consider a "guru" and don't have trouble like what you describe, nor have I ever done so. I certainly don't consider myself to be any kind of "genius" for that matter, either. I suspect you're trying to transport your Windows skills and this is likely to be ... problematic.
For your BOINC manager issue, make sure you link to the run_manager script, not the binary itself. Both the client and the manager take the directory they are run from as part of their environment conditions, so the manager won't be looking for the client in the right place but in the starting directory and it will fail.
i thought i might see you here soon DA
i really don't even know what you just said lol. i'm more of a linux noob than i thought i guess
...ohh that would do it then. I'm used to windows - a shortcut is just that, a shortcut, and has no bearing on the program startup directory unless explicitly stated. That's weird that linux is the other way around.
Maybe you can help me figure out why I can't get rid of the old version of BOINC and install a new one properly. The old one is in the home directory, /home/BOINC I think it is. No idea how to stop it, remove it, and then upgrade to the newer version, and have that one actually run properly, at startup, and all that. That's the issue, I can sometimes fumble my way through starting stuff, but can't stop it :ROTF:
I am installing the 8216 to mr shootas board and the asetek heatsinks and the new heatsink to the northbridge.I will post results and pics later this day.
No news from the bios modders on the ACPI issue.
How about six core opterons?I saw there are six core opterons with ddr2 - 800mhz integrated controller.Would these work? They worked on super micro MCP 55 based boards.
Are they Istanbul cores? Cuz I've heard those don't work on our board.
Yes,i am refering to instabul cores.Where did you heard it from?
from the guys who had these boards before us. I think KarbonKid maybe?
I don't have one, sir. Student loan's got the better of me :(. I may have said no 6-core support because (if?) they don't support DDPM (split power planes) which is a requirement for Istanbul and an option with Shanghai. Even Shanghai support hinges on the firmware having correct microcode and AGESA..
