Today I sent a support question to G. Skill asking if 8GB would work at stock speeds, and if not, would they work at 800MHz on a 680i. Here is my question and their response:

Subject: F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ question
Hi,
I just purchased 2 sets of this ram to give 8GB memory on an nvidia 680i board.
This board has been running 4G (4x1G) ram no problem at 840mHz.
I will be receiving these memory modules today, and I was wondering if I will have any problems running them at stock specs with 8GB. I have read on xtreme systems that they may not work at stock specs on some systems.
In the event that they do not work at the rated speed, is there any problem running them at a reduced speed such as 800 MHz?
Or, would it be better to exchange them for another set in the hopes that the new set would work?
Thanks for your time.

Hi
It really depends on the chipset of 680i. Some 680i cannot run 4 sticks at DDR2 800. If your has no problem up to 840mhz, I think there is no problem for 8GB to run at DDR2 800. However, since our asus and evga 680i cannot run 4sticks at DDR2 800, I am not able to verify for you
Thank you

Well I guess it is a crap shoot as toi whether you should buy this memory for 8GB or not.
G. Skill should put a disclaimer on their box, or in their advertising, or else rate them down so that 8G will work.
I'll know tonight but so far I'm not too happy.:(
