Thanks for all the great lead info, guys! :)
I am expecting my 3060, AW9-D, Ballistix, mcx159, and 8800gts on Friday and am doing all of my intelligence gathering now so that I can get a running start, and this thread has been amazing. I've been reading this thread and the Abit board thread (all 66 pages of it!) but am wondering whether there are some concise reference point settings I need to know so that I can get right up to 3.6 (I hope!) and push from there. Is there a guide I've missed for this setup? If not, can you please answer:
1) what are optimized voltage settings for this board (Vmch, etc.)?
2) are there any tricks to running 400+fsb with stability?
3) are there any hidden bios settings?
4) what's your favorite bios? why?
Sorry if this seems like a slight hijack (well, it is ;)) but I'd like to be up, running, and contributing to this thread ASAP :)
Thanks in advance! ;)
I really do not even look at them LOL ;)Quote:

400-43x isnt too hard, after that use memset and set high memmory timingsQuote:

noQuote:

I use 1.3b as it has TRFC for memmory in the bios, but 1.2 was fine.Quote:

Cant wait for results ;)Quote:

thanks so much for those guidelines, fhpchris! :)
btw, after i showed this thread to a buddy of mine he ordered the same rig...i'll see whether i can get him to post his results, too. we're both getting L628B 3060's and AW9-D Max boards, hehe :woot:
I know, its rather sad that two random Xeon 3060s from newegg both own my X6800 (not just faster, but at lower voltage too!)Quote:

btw, nice pic lol
so i switched over to the Asus P5B-deluxe to see if I can run blend test... well I got blue screened sometime last night hehehe... 423x9 @ 1.5375 volts didn't work. I tweaked the voltage some more so hopefully it'll run all day. :)
So is it inevitably going to come back to luck of the draw with the cpu? I tend to like to take the denial approach and blame all limitations on the rest of the hardware first.Quote:

Will be very interested to see what results you do get out of your p5b deluxe. Was planning on selling my P5W DH tomorrow and picking up a P5B Deluxe instead. Oh and a new PSU, dammit.

I have two almost identical systems built. The only differences are the RAM, PSU and one uses the VX version of Big Typhoon (so the mounting hardware is different, but I am using the same model Sunon 38mm fan on both). However, one rig hits peaks temperatures of about 76C and the other 57C (and I do not think there is anyway that I have a bad heat sink mount on one).Quote:

I am going to take advantage of the freezing weather here and see how much my cooling is holding me back by testing one of these boxes outside at about -5C.
EDIT: Outside my idle "temperature" went down to 13C (3.6 GHz, 1.6V vCore) and full load to 32C. I was able to boot OS X at 3.746 GHz with no problem (1333 strap plus 25%), but my BadAxe1 would not POST at 3.896 (1333 strap plus 30%). So, my air cooling holding my back a little bit here, like perhaps 200 MHz, but it certainly is not keeping from reaching 3.9 GHz or above. When I get my BadAxe2's get tomorrow, I will be building a third machine with another Xeon 3060 (L629A780) and hopefully do a little better.
i'm having problems.Quote:

the longest run i've had so far is 1 hour 15 minutes... the sad thing is is that the computer doesn't blue screen, it just reboots :(
so i'm still trying to get it stable ... argh... blend is hard!!! hehehe.

Giving me something to think about.
If I think about my x2's, and I know this is small time, but I went through 5 different motherboards, 4 x2's, 2 different memory, 2 different psu's, 3 different cooling systems. Conclusion, the cooling made a big impact and luck of the draw on cpus. The rest, motherboards, memory, psu were really negligible in their effect on OCing the cpu. In fact I was buying the same steppings as other guys on this site from the same vendor here in Thailand. They were hitting just about 3 ghz (X2 3800) and me about 2.8. 2.7 24/7.
So well confused now. It wouldn't hurt to give the p5b deluxe a blast though would it:confused:
Cheers for the updates though shimmishim, will quite probably join you in that mission.

aite. i gave up on 9 x 423. moved up to 8 x 475 instead...Quote:

i'm gonna see if it can make it 3 hours and then i'll do a long test tonight.
The X6800 still benches higher because of the unlocked multiplier thing though ;)Quote:

This is done on your Abit? I'm assuming that they finally released a bios with 1333 strap. Please post some pics at 475 and compare them to 423 1066 strap. I think you'll find out the latter is faster.Quote:

That would explain the 475. So how goes it so far matched with the Xeon? Faster than the Abit at 423?Quote:

yup... figured it out. the heater vent in my apartment is blowing DIRECTLY at my desk where my mobo is setup (not in case).Quote:

it's definitely time to replace the NB sink!!!
Are these available anywhere in the UK?! I'm having no luck finding them :(

I just got one with....
Xeon 3060
Intel BadAxe2
Team Xtreme PC2-6400 2X1GB 4-4-4-10
I'll put it all together tonight and let you know.....
You can trust Core Temp and TAT but what can you compare them to? Their readings are obviously much higher than Tc. So what do those readings represent? Internal core temps for which we have no reference.Quote:
