Maybe the tape is just to stick it down? :p: I honestly don't know to be honest, but it doesn't really make a lot of sense that one set of vregs has a heatsink on and the other set is completely bare.Quote:

Nah, it proper heatsink tape, I've bought it online for graphics cards. Since I stuck some active cooling on the NB that area is cooler than a witch's tit. So its not very important. Just a bit odd.Quote:

I plan to remove the ASUS heatpipe system entirely, because I've got a Swiftech MCX159-CU to replace it. Just trying to work out where I need to put the little Swiftech heatsinks that I bought with it... on the vregs? or on the big black blocks (theres 8 of them around the CPU socket).

ur supposed to put them on the vreg mosfets...
there should be 8 mosfets
use thermal adhesive, not that crappy thermal tape that it comes with
i reccomend Arctic Silver ASTA silver adhesive, but the ceramic will do as well, may not get as good temps though

So are these tiny fans mounted on the chipset heatsinks pushing air into the heatsinks or sucking it up out of it? (I would think the latter)

Oh and you can get Sekisui #5760 thermal adhesive tape on ebay for a few quid and it's about as good as your going to get for tape.

I just want to make sure I'm not going to hurt my mobo without getting a separate heatsink for my NB or SB. Do you guys think I need to? I think you can manage like Jimbo and be safe too if not pushing hard your fsb . I also changed HS for southbridge and put a Zalman ZA NB32 (it has a 60 mm fan on it ) so my mobob temp idle is now 37° ( I expect less with AS5 applied few days ago cos cpu temp lower now at 37° :banana: :banana: running 3.5ghz 24/7 , I lapped my chip too )Quote:

The capacitors - if that's what they are - are pretty hot to the touch.

Thanks Mykou, that's what I thought... that basically the heatsink on the vreg MOSFETs (whatever the stock ASUS one covers) is really just there to act as more surface area to remove heat from the NB cooler.Quote:

hmm don't know .. I have with the TR ultra 120 a paspt 120 mm fan blowing out to psu so I imagine it refresh this area and I have a second case fan 120 mm located near the mofsets
I only let the mofsets HS in place , just had cut the pipe to remove the NB heatsink

its a big waste of time to put heatsinks on caps... caps shouldnt even be getting hot, unless too much curant is going through them and that is bad, once caps are damaged, there is a 100% chance for them to blow, and thats not pretty

They come already screwed into a heatsink, you just unscrew em and put them on the Asus.

Will the bios hotflashing work with my old P4P800 Deluxe? He recommended current generation, but will it still work with one slightly older? And I assume it needs to be an Asus board at least, since doing it with my already hooked-up Abit AI7 would just be far too convenient of course.
I have the Thermaltake Extreme spirit 2 at home and I was just wondering if anyobody tested it on the P5W DH yet? I have now temperatures about 20-43°C with stock cooler under load...So the chips under the heatsink on the top of the board near the CPU slot don`t need to be cooled or...?

Incase nobody has answered your question, I just installed (ok, glued) a couple of 40mm fans to my NB and SB and I have a Zalman 9500AT cooler. No problem with clearance - at least 10-20mm between the blades of the Zalman and the fan on top of the NB+Fan.Quote:

I lowered my idle temp by 4C and my load temp by about 6C. This seems to be what was giving me slight Primt95 stability problems around 3GHz. Now I stress test (dual Prime95) for hours at 3GHz. Time to push my luck a little more. Does it make sense that going from 46C to 40C on the NB (or is it SB?) would improve stability so much?
