Thanks Andy. ;)
I've been exploring some new grounds today, 41K was on the cards but took my poor Opty 146 to run at 3.2GHz, for now i'm satisfied.

Yes. A 1.55V GPU mod.Quote:

I just found a nice mod on how to cool them though (funnily enough, it involves no modding :p). http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/8882/img04552eh.jpg
So lets see how this goes!! :D

I need a better CPU to hit higher scores though. All on air.
No need to remove any resistors, just a wire soldered between ground and the known +0.2V spot.Quote:

The bottom card went smooth, but the top one, the damn ink kept drying up on me, so it doesn't look as nice, but it appears to have worked fine. I like the quick release tape tabs also. :D I also sinked my memory, MOSFET(s) and the memory controller IC chips while I was at it..
as for the results, so far so good.. The core temps went up about 4c or 5c each, not too bad. they idle at about 36c and 37c now.. Coolbits was :banana::banana::banana: for OCing with this vmod, it would fail the "test" if I even moved 1mhz higher, so I decided to try powerstip. That worked! I was able to get good solid runs at 635mhz on the cores.. 650 would lock on deep freeze. DOH! Oh well.. I'm going to play some Oblivion now and test 635 thoroughly.. I have my memory at 1700 (850*2) also..
Wow you have fantastic core m8, 700mhz @ only 1.4v ATItool stable.Wow again.I can hit 666 @ 1.4v Atitool free and 700mhz 3dmark benchable, @ 1.5v 680mhz stable and 720mhz benchable.You GPU is great, i wish i have yours:rolleyes:Quote:

Cleaned the resistor and now i'm back at 893-895MHz for the mem.
I hope some more burn in will make 900 fully stable.

Is the 1.4V mod described by Zeus applicable or is there another way....?
I want to breach that 10k 3d5 barrier... it's nagging me....:)
Nice work Shark-357! I did really like your mod :D
I' thinking of doing the same mod with my card, with my Athlon X2 boxed-cooler.
Can you descripe detailed what you did?
Thx m8:)
Well mod is preaty easy .
Strip the card and the cooler, then line up cooler and the card mark mounting holes with an alcohol pen and just drill the holes in the box cooler .
U will also have to saw off two edges that prevent u to install two ram sinks as u can see from the picture .
For mounting is best to use the same springs as for water blocks.

the memory run like a beast (950mhz) with no VGPU Mod, after the Vgpu mod, its hard to run it like it was.... like i need to mod it too...:D:D
one more thing, the 1.55v on Gpu help the mem to oc better at coolbits autodetect. before Vgpu mod it stuck at 784mhz, after gpu mod at 800. still cant reach 950+...
So you mean after the VGU mod, mem overclock went down but coolbits auto detect freqency for the mem went up?
How did the mem clock with 1.4Vgpu?
yup, thats what happen...
1.4,1.45,and 1.5v correspond the same with default Voltage, 784mhz on coolbits... only 1.55v run the mem to 800 on coolbits...

Wow, that run must have artifacted like hell, there's even artifacts in your screenshot. :p:
ye, thats the weird thing, the arti's werent there on screen. they appeared only on the screenshot.. no arti's during the 3dmark run aswell
tbh i think the new forceware and/or rivatuner messed things up, after playing with them i got nothing but issues really; switching between 2d and 3d all of a sudden causes the weirdest probs.
Not too sure 'bout that.
I got into real big trouble after raising the PCI-e frequency as well, flickering or black screens, white dots and mem that does not overclock as well as it did.
It feels like running 3d mark with the card overclocked to the max and the PCI-e frequency set to >110MHz somehow degrades the memory overclock severely.
Not sure but i got into trouble with my first 7900GT after doing that and yet with my second one i'm having the same sort of trouble.
Letting Coolbits auto detect the max oc results in white dots all over the desktop and a flickering or black screen after that. :(
Only a system reset cures the problem.
I'm pretty much fed up with these cards tbh.
I have a little problem...
I'm testing 3d mark 2001 right now and i have good fps on all test except nature ... I'm looking on the ORB any every body has 500+ but i have 300+fps...

im getting random lockups every 6 hours or so, I know its the 7900gt I have. Ive done the 1.4v mod, but I dont think its stable all of the time, as coolbits autodetects a different frequency everytime I use it, ranging from 550 to 630 on the core???

Is this respectable for single core? All on air. 1.55v on VGPU. Stock on mem.
But there is a problem, no matter how much volts I put through the mem, I cant get it to bench over 939. Any suggestions as to whats the problem?
For 1,55V, what temp do you think is safe? My pelt is not getting enough power, so I get load temps above 50C with 1,4V :( What do you think?
stock, no vmods

p.s. all thanks to Shark-357 for his lovely vmod :D
guys i tests my 7900GT with 1.55v (740-768/890-940) on 3dmark06 but the problem is, the FPS on Canyon Flights "ALWAYS" only arround 15-18fps. try to lowering the speed wont help.. I can hit 25fps "ONLY" if I run the test itself (Only Canyon Flights)... never had 25fps on full test...
looks like the VPU Recover kicks in???
here's some example....
ORB LINKY
How high do you think it's safe to raise the pci-e bus? I gained ~10MHz on core by raising it to 110MHz, but I don't know where I should stop - is 120MHz safe?

zbogorgon, what is your pci-e bus ?
I changed my PCI-E Bus to 120Mhz and gained 80 points in 3DMark05. So far, max mem speed thats RivaTuner passes the test with is 950Mhz. I can bench at that speed with no problem. I am still on stock cooling with no volt mods. Also, that mem OC was with 100Mhz PCI-E bus. I didnt have time yet to see how will increased PCI-E bus help my overall overclocking.
i tried pci-e up to 115, but no real gain, maybe few mhz on core.
What components can be damaged due to too high pci-e? I think I'll try 115MHz.
SATA HDDs.... just dont go over 120-125 if u using sata
I have 4 of them, hmm. May i stick with the 110MHz just to be sure I don't get any problems.
GET OTU OF MY HEAD, I was thinking this not to long ago, and I have not been reading this thread.

My ram has more potential ... I need to find a good pencil :)
Hmmm weird that people's RAM cant do 900MHz. Coolbits auto detects mine to like 860Mhz.
I can do 950 without vmem mod.
Just got my evga co 7900GT tonight. Haven't done any modding of anything yet, and coolbits auto detects @ 620/890.
been artifact scanning on ati tool @ 450/950 for a little while now, no probs (just testing memory potential, not core yet.)

I had seen the VGPU Measure point in the photos but am curious as to where to connect the black point of the multimeter. It must go to ground i think. Any ground will do, ground on a molex, the inside of your case or a one of the points (from the black wire) coming from the power connector on the back of the card. Just make sure yout touch only the black for ground if you do ther latter.
done it, worked ! thanx ..
interestingly coolbits detects exactly the same clocks before (1.2V) and after the Vmod (1.4V)

EDIT :
after the mod coolbits did not report anything different. Tried ATi Tool Beta 14 and found max core (w/o artifacts) 660 and max mem 910..
ATI Tool running for 2+ hours without artifacts. will leave it running some more and then bench with 3dmark05...
maybe my cpu will limit me in 3dmark (winchester athlon 64 3000+ @2620 Mhz (9x291) -- cannot go further)
weird stuff...
with 1.2 V core 575 mem 900 (max artifact free) 3dmark05 result 9801.
with 1.4 V core 660 mem 940 (max artifact free) 3dmark05 result 10016.
my setup is :

2x512MB Crucial Ballistix (2.5-3-3-7) @261Mhz (180 divider)
HTT 3x291
isn't it weird that 85 mhz on core results at only 200 points diff. ? do you think it's my cpu that is causing the bottleneck ?
I was searchin for a review on this card but couldnt find it. Any 1 tried clocking these with stock cooling?

I'm doing 700 MHz on the core with stock cooling and 1.4 V.

some boards come with Locked SATA ports so that any increased in PCI-e Frequency won't corrupt them. Check with your motherboard about this. My DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR has all SATA ports "locked" so any PCIe Increase shouldn't affects them.Quote:
