Just thought I'd post some results after playing with my Ballistix for some time now. I hope these settings help ;)
These are the tightest settings I can use at 284mhz and produce the best sandra bandwidth. I'm running at 284x12 on Fx57. (optimum OC for processor not highest OC obtainable on memory)
Using 6/2 drive strenghts, 4708 tref, 2.8vdimm

yeh but the clock for clock on cpu makes a HUGE difference. try running the fx at 284x10 if you will.

I thought it might be helpful since alot of the screen shots posted in this thread are of higher mhz with looser settings.
I'll be at my other house tonight and I'll run the FX at 10x284mhz just to see what the difference is, but IMO it will be 200mb/s. Thats roughly the differnce I saw between my SD and the X2 4400+ at the same clocks with TCCD.

anyone else have the Ballistix 2X1GB and an X2? Im having a very difficult time getting them to run 1:1. My San Diego would do 1:1 no problems with 250Mhz 3-3-3-8 1T buy my 3800 X2 (E6) wont do it. I have to run 166 divider to keep it stable with 2.8v.
EDIT: Is there any way to change the Max Async Latency and the Read Preamble so that it boots up with a certain setting? (K8N Neo 2 Platinum)

I don't think we are doing a good job by showing screens at very high HTTs together with a Super PI 32M screen... Most may have found errors in Memtest86+ tests #5 or #8. So I would suggest that for the rank we should include some screens from Windows Memtest.

@ RafaDel - I don't think anyone is going to change the rules of the thread after dozens of posts. If you want to see a list that includes windows memtest start your own thread. Maybe you could also include a bandwidth list or incorporate that into the list of results. XS members can vote with their feet (posts?) and if a lot of members share your feelings, I'm sure it will be stickied. 2gig rigs are so hot right now, it could suport a lot of threads. ;)
I've run Memtest on my Ballistix many times at DDR600 with no errors. Also, as many people have found, Memtest does not guarantee Windows stability. Leave the rules the way they are.
Gave my Ballistix one last shot at benching, this time focusing on lowest 32M time. Seems stable to me. ;)

What's your bios Sierra? I have had entirely different results with each bios I have used.. the 310s won't allow me to go above 250 but the 704-2BTA will allow me to hit 285. If I only knew what the h3ll was holding me from getting the divider to work on my G.Skill LEs I would be in another world right now. That 285 is 1/01 on 2.6V and 3-4-8-4 timings.
I'm using 704-2BTA. Has worked well for me.

I'm not saying I don't like Ballistix (I have them). I'm just saying that the HTTs we are showing are not 100% stable. Memtest86+ is still catching some errors but SPI 32M is not showing that.
My only concern was not to give to new people the idea that you can run at 300HTT fully stable. If you guys get any thing from Crucial to saying that, I'm out, and off as I won't argue anymore.

I don't think anyone was suggesting people run their Ballistix at DDR600 all the time. But for everyday usage, I had mine at 290HTT for weeks and encountered no problems. SuperPi 32M is just one of many stability tests. I'm not sure there's such a thing as 100% stability, though many of us strive for it.
BTW, I've run my Ballistix with three different CPU's and two different boards. Was able to run 32M at DDR600 or higher each time. Here's the latest.

Ive read about 10 pages in this thread. Didnt realise there were 46 pages! Ive got the flu and Im hoping people dont ignore my "newbie" question!
Im currently purchasing Components for my rig at the moment and I am deciding beteen the Opteron 144 (x9 mult) and Opteron 146 (x10 multi) :-
I HAVE GOT THE CRUCIAL BALLISTIX PC4000 DDR500 Memory (5B-D chips).
Can people please confirm what processor would be the best to go for if I wanted to run the memory at 1T stable? What is a stable clock speed I should be looking for?
Lastly, should I Shoot for 3Ghz out of the processor and run a divider on the RAM?
I am sooo new to overclocking so maybe Im aiming for something in kids gloves and I should wait till im actually "Overclocking" before asking questions, but at least you guys might be able to advise me on what parts to buy so that I can reach my aims! (Opteron s939 running at 3Ghz and 1T on the memory!).
Full enlightenment/advice or anything would be very very appreciative!!

Get a cpu with atleast a 10x multi for one. Perhaps try for something preowned that is guaranteed to have a good memory controller capable of 300mhz+ speeds 1:1. Any S939 A64 you can get today will run 2x1GB memory at 1T, so no worries there. Perhaps grab MickeyMouse's bundle he's got in the for sale thread. A guaranteed 3GHz S939 Opteron, DFI NF4, and XP90c cooler. Pm him, and let there be no more discussion of this sale I brought up.

topfuel dragster, it will scream down the strip at 300mph in less than 4

My Ballistix can do 10x 300 @3-3-3-8 no problem but required 3.0v, this is my 24/7 machine so I want my ram to last for awhile and for warranty sake I keep them at 11x 273(2.6v) :D :D

My SD3700+ sucks and I'm running 24x7 at 289x9 but the highest full stable is 295MHz at 2.85V. Maybe more with an FX or a Opty...

I've got a question: can anybody run 2 instances of SuperPi 32M? I can't do it, no matter what I do (even default settings). I error (nonconvergant in sqr) of one instance inside of 30 seconds, no matter how loose the timings, how high the voltage, or whether the fsb is stock. I can run one instance with no problems and loop MemTest86 in test 5. Any ideas?

Canceled the pqi I hope. After reading a few other threads I have a feeling it's the stuff that barely oc's.
I've had them about 3 months now very strange happenings, one tests perfect in a P4 platform other tests bad, then when you put into an AMD 64 NF4 the opposite happens other is bad which was good in the P4.
Crucial RMA'd them, memtest failed at DDR500 speed 3-4-4-8 2.8v which was specs and I had been running them at 244 HTT :-( good couple days wasted testing this weekend unfortunately, wish they had been more blatently bad.

hello guys im new here just joined and just from this thread i bought some Ballistix pc4000 DDR and check this out this is with no burn in and booted to windows only, i need to learn how to do a superpi score. but so far this DDR is everything i expected it to be from reading this complete thread.
is there any tips you guys can give me from the images. or any settings you guys can give me or programs i need to maximize my ddr becuse currently im over the moon, i think i got a very good batch or a very good memory controller.

Whats the dif between 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer and 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Z503. And can anyone post good places to buy them from exept the Egg. I read some reviews that they got a bad batch and allot of people having problems with 1 stick after a while. And yea I'm planning to run them on Dothan. Anyone did that before :stick:

I've been lurking these boards for quite a while but this is my first so here goes...
Well basically, I recently bought (from newegg) 2x1GB of Crucial Ballistix Z503, because I saw everyone hitting such huge numbers here and I was really impressed especially out of a 2gb kit. So I put mine in.. EPoX 9NDA+ board (nf3u) running @ 2.8v and the most they can do stable it seems is 250MHz 3-3-3...using 275FSB (275x10 a64 san diego KABGE) w/ a64 twk's 183 divider, which of course is not really OCing because they are rated @ pc4000. I've tried very exaggerated loose timings and the ram won't run at 275 unless I use 2T command rate which of course defeats the whole purpose of buying 1gb sticks. So I'm thinking... does this ram do better in the newer NF4u boards? I mean i'm not sure why, because the memory controller is on-die, so, should I see an improvement w/ like the epox or dfi nf4u boards simply because they can give more than 2.8v to the ram, is there some other reason, or did I just get some bad sticks?

Question:
Looking at the DFI forums, it seems that many people are having reliability issues with this RAM and DFI nf4 motherboards, after about 2 months or so. What was fine in memtest and error free during installation, 2 months down the line and people get all sorts of errors on memtest - EVEN IF RAM TURNED DOWN TO STOCK.
Just wondered if anyone here has had there memory for ages and ages and if there have been any issues? Or could this just be a bad batch?

Not seen this problem myself (had it for about 2 months) I however do have a problem with using memory dividers, 260 for instance runs fine in 1:1 but in 166 I sometimes (depends on divider, 166 is almost 100%) get reboot loops when entering windows.Quote:

I was able to run 275 at 2.8v with bios 623 and orange slots and memory in either order. I was completely stable (mem-test / super-pi) at that speed. Since I've been extremely busy with work and transitioning data from my old main system to this one, I had been running on most settings set to auto for every day use. That probably meant running at 200Mhz FSB for memory (not certain about what speed it was then).
Over the course of the past two weeks, I've been noticing the system reboot sporadicly. It would reboot even when barely running anything, just Trillian, mIRC, FireFox, and Konfabulator. This prompted me to troubleshooting. I tried swapping the memory between slots. That made matters worse. The board wouldn't boot into the OS at all. I then swapped the memory back and then tried running at 275Mhz fsb with settings I recorded that worked earlier. No luck. It wouldn't even post. I tried running the stick individually in the orange slots. Still not stable at all. Then I tried running 270, and 265 at previous settings that worked. Still no dice -- errors galore in MemTest [5/6/8].
Now I wanted to see WTF was going on and if it would work at modest settings. I tried 250Mhz 3-3-3-8/3-4-4-10 2.6v/2.7v/2.8v without any luck. Even the rated settings are unstable in memtest or would instantly reboot when booting into the OS. I tried running the sticks one at a time. The one stick wouldn't even post at 250 and wouldn't even boot into the OS at 200. The other stick will post at 250 but wont boot into the OS.
Needless to say, I'm in process of RMAing the set.
For now I'm running on an old set of 2x512M XMS-3500.
