I am running it for more than 1 hour but funny thing is ... I have no data around the thingiemabob spinning around. Tis black around it :(.
On the viewer? Not sure how good the viewer is... I leave it closed as it decreases performance. Use FAHmon to monitor the status instead :up:
Cheers for the reply. I will do as instructed ;).
I am going to try the folding first time
Glad to hear it...welcome aboard ....feel free to ask questions
:welcome:
Thanks for the warm welcome
Good to have ya join the team, Madmanali
Right now, the best/easiest way is probably to use an Nvidia-based GPU with the 6.23 Hi-Perf Client
There are also CPU-based clients as well, and SMP clients (which are a bit tricky to set up).
I have a gtx295 & 2 gts450s, is a Corsair 750HX psu enough to handle these 3 cards? I'm going to start folding here probably this weekend and need to know if I need a bigger psu.
Thanks
corsair
it will probably max out the 750, i would look for a bigger psu, another corsair or an enermax unit.
:welcome:
I just started folding and wanted to know how do I put the 2 boxes in my signature to show my and xtremesystems' F@H points, rank, 24avg, WU completed, etc..?
:welcome:
Go here and get the stats and php code to put in your sig as a img.
i don't wanna necro this thread. is there still a XS team, or does anyone care about this stuff any more? i've been folding for a while now (ranked #2300 individually). i run SMP on 3 machines along with 4 GPU's and a PS3 (8 instances total at any given time).
if i join a team, do my points transfer or do i start over? how do i find my "points" or PPD (i think its called)?? let me know if this is still active - and give me the OK and i'll join your team.
Hello there!
XS is extremely active, and thanks to some very dedicated members we have one of the highest per user output! :up:
Sadly this subforum isn't as lively as for example the WCG section, but ooh well, we're here to fight disease, right?
It would be very nice if you considered joining us, but you'd need to start from 0 since there's no way to transfer points. Simply point all your clients to team 36362 and you'll be folding on our team. One way to monitor your output and see how you're doing on the team is http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ (enter your username).
If you have any questions, technical or whatever, shoot away. You'll get an answer, even if it sometimes takes a while! :)
Lastly, :welcome:
Piling on!!
Yep, we're quietly supporting the F@H project with some massive output (we're a top-20 ranked team). Plus, there are many folks here with years of experience at configuration of the clients and tweaking the hardware, so you can definitely get answers to your questions. Hope you'll join us! Some new folders are just what we need to liven up the forum a bit! :)
consider it done - all the instances have been directed to the XS team. i hope i can make some use out these PCs and continue contributing to a great cause - (only now ill be doing it as part of a team hehe)
Welcome bds71. :) I see you already started to gain on me. I hadn't seen anyone gaining on me for a while.

well, i'm still ranked 206th so i doubt you got much to worry about short term hehe. individually i am about to break into the 2300's (2404 i think), but i've been running F@H for quite a while (almost a year i think) to get that high - but it's still going up, so it's nice to see i'm making progress still. (about 100 places a month give or take). my goal (individially) is the top .1% - then ill be happy :) my goal as far as this team is top 10 hehe - but that might take a while - like about ten years lol - you guys are FREAKS!! (i mean that in the best way of course)Quote:

Especially Angra... he's a monster. In the top 5 OVER ALL. That's just nuts! He does like 7x more in a day than I used to do in a month :eek: :ROTF:
Man, I'd love to be back over here and doing something, but with the now old hardware I have it just isn't worth the cost of electricity to run it :(
Believe me it doesn't take long to get that high on the ladder.. joining a team makes things a bit more competitive, which in turn leads to unforeseen hardware purchases now and then.
And then again.
:shrug: :ROTF:
yea - i wouldn't wanna see Angra's electrical bill lol; he's got his own private super computer!! he could probably charge universities to use it!! i am actually planning on upgrading to ivy bridged when it comes out to replace my aging i7 965. at the same time ill prob replace my gtx285's with some gtx600's. that should bump my 24hr from the low 30k's to about 50k+ hehe (and use the same amount of power!!) - not to mention it will take me half as long to convert a dvd to an mp4 since i still got about 300 movies to go :)
man - i was just browsing the team stats - one individual (angra of course) is producing 75% (!!!!) of our 24hr avg output (1.5M/2M). that is just insane - he produces 15x (times!!) that of our second highest producer. and, only 3% (32/1038) are actively contributing. if angra decided to leave us, this team would be seriously hurting.....
i don't let that stop me. hell, i even run it on my laptop lol. it's got a dual core (4 w/HT) i5 (pre-SB) and a 300 something nVidia GPU. i run both the SMP and the GPU on it lol.Quote:

I need to look at making a Christmas list...my h/w is sooooo old.
Wallet.
Why the hell do we need money to do good? :down:
Folders should be sponsored by the power companies.
i hear ye. my power bill jumped quite a bit when i started running 24/7, about $150/mo increase. but, that is with 2 PC's, a laptop, and a PS3 all running full out (CPU and GPU's) - and here in Germany where power costs a bit more and you pay in euro (which is socking it to the dollar pretty hard). one PC running full out 24/7 in the states should only increase your power bill maybe $30-40/mo.....of course, having said that - i'm all for p2501's idea: let the power companies sponsor us and pay our power bills for us :) (i know a few texans who could use a break on paying for AC hehe)Quote:
My wallet stops me
p2501: wasn't your user name also the code name of the puppet master in Ghost in the Shell? p (for project) 2501?
lol - i just watched that show the other night (after ripping it from VHS to my PC) - had to check the quality of course :) that's why the name stuck out to me when i saw it lol. too funny. cool name :)

Ok i'm gonna give it another crack. First i was annoyed with F@H and went to GPUgrid now it's vice versa.......
Can someone help me out here, the GPU client is slowing down my PC i don't remember if there was a way to fix this....
turn it off while your using the PC. (right-click the icon in the task bar --> click exit) --- the GPU client will take up most of your GPU resources and will make doing anything productive difficult at best - impossible at worst. after your done, simply turn it back on. at least that's what i do. i usually have to turn off both the CPU client and the GPU client if i want to do anything more than surf the web - and even that can be kinda painful too. just make short cuts and place them on your desktop for restarting them once you're finished using your PC.Quote:

An easier way if you are using systray is to right-click on the FAH icon and click "Pause work" while your using your PC.
Have things changed with the GPU? Back when I ran GPU2 on my GTX260 the PC was easily usable while folding on the card.
bds71, the WCG team does a "supercomputer" week twice a year, just for fun and to see how much computing power XS really has. If we could get even half the entire forum to participate it would be out of this world. BUT I don't want people to abandon other good projects like this one for it.
Main reason I run WCG now instead of F@H is I can't run the SMP client due to only having 4 cores, and my GPUs were getting too costly to run (and also getting outdated as well). So I run what I can. I was running WCG on my CPU and F@H on my GPU for a long time but once I started having to pay my own electric bill directly and it wasn't rolled into a flat cost per month, well, my wallet felt it hard :(
Try sorting your processes and affinities with WinAFC or WinAFC64 ( http://affinitychanger.sourceforge.net/ ). It's best is you let the GPU clients use one thread, but it also works alongside other processes (browsing, light loads). What you need to keep apart are SMP folding processes and GPU ones, they seriously hurt each other.
Example:
Enables you to get the most out of 8 threads. :up:Code:#WarningLevel = 2
ConsoleLogLevel = 4
# To change only the file verbosity:
#FileLogLevel = 3
# To change both mediums at the same time:
#LogLevel = 3
#TimeInterval = 30
#*\FahCore_1*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+PAIR3 [priority=High]
#*\FahCore_a*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+PAIR3 [priority=Normal]
*\FahCore_1*.exe := CPU7 [priority=Realtime]
*\FahCore_a*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+CPU6 [priority=Normal]
*\chrome.exe := CPU7
*\firefox.exe := CPU7
*\foobar2000.exe := CPU6 [priority=High]
*\unrar.exe := CPU7
*\mpc-hc64.exe := CPU6 [priority=AboveNormal]
*\audiodg.exe := CPU2
*\sidebar.exe := CPU7

*\fahclient.exe := CPU7
*\coretemp.exe := CPU7
*\rtkngui64.exe := CPU7
*\msiafterburner.exe := CPU7
*\plugin-container.exe := CPU7
hmmm....there is a priority setting on the GPU gui. i know i have mine set to override other programs' priority - that's why i have to shut it off when doing anything else. perhaps lowering the priority is all you need to do kingcarcas.Quote:
#*\FahCore_1*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+PAIR3 [priority=High]
#*\FahCore_a*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+PAIR3 [priority=Normal]
this sounds really cool. i would seriously participate in this - if i had an internet connection :) unfortunately, it won't be back up for probably another 3-4 weeks. i'm switching to one of the FO services getting installed locally, and i had to give my old company a 3 month notice that i was leaving. unfortunately, i made arrangements according to when the service was "supposed" to be ready - needless to say, it's not ready, and won't be for a few more weeks....hopefully.Quote:

PS: i'm making this post from work hehe
Cool, i wonder if disabling cpu affinity option could do anything in the F@H setup. Let's see what i can do, it's getting chilly here so i could use the heat!
Are any of you guys using the v7 open beta? I'm trying to start folding (finally) but I unfortunately have an AMD gfx card. Seemed best to use v7 in that instance.
For the moment I'm fighting BSODs on what I thought was a stable overlock. Could be my graphics card at fault though. Who knows. More on that in the other thread I posted in.
I'm using v7 on both my PC's at the moment. Not doing GPU folding currently though, just straight up SMP CPU.
Oh lol! This is fantastic, i never would have made it into the Top 20 back in the days when F@H was the primary project on XS, but now i have! Part of the reason i stayed with my old team for a while when pretty much everyone stopped folding was so i could pass a few users who would own me back in the day and i passed 1 Mill as well, for a moment i was also the #1 producer :p:
I passed the 2.1Million mark woohoo! After leaving off in October of 09, WOW! Can't believe it was that long ago, time flies.
nice - its good to see people folding again. i hope i get my internet back soon so i can continue once more. another month or so perhaps.....
