What do you mean better at auto?
So does this mean that there are no benefits to making changes to the other settings in the bios for stability or performance?
Thanks

Weird boot problem..
When been off for a while. Power on will pass post but then halt at a flashing cursor at the top left. Reset button does nothing. Needs full power off. The mobo code LED shows AE (Legacy Boot Event). Powering off and back on does not help. If I go into the BIOS and just save without changing anything,
boot is successful.
I don't have any USB drives etc plugging in. So it's a head scratcher what is causing this... anyone advise please?
Switching your actual used bios for the free one does not help?
Yes, I meant the other bios, the one you are not using. Good luck then.
yes board has a switch to actually select the bios u want, he is using one of them but he has other problems, im helping him since some days and we get it work nicely except this problem that i suspect can be marvel
im runing all intel and no probs at all
u got this board ?
cheers
Sergio
Great. Hope you get the solution soon! Cheers.
I've still got the Internal PLL Overvolt set to ON as you said to do Sergio :)
I powered the PC on today, and it went on and booted fine. But in saying that, it was not every time this happens. Sometimes it will boot and sometimes I get the flashing cursor.
Suppose we will need to see if the Internal PLL been set to ON resolves it. Don't like the fact it's called OVERVAULT lol... So I assume this will not cause adverse effects on the chip over time?
Overvolt isnt dangerous.. its just tells your cpu that it can use more voltage if it needs it, otherwise if you ask for lets 5ghz with 1,5V which is like 150-160W, well if the cpu is limited to 130W, it will bluescreen all the time.
Its just a delimiter.
Maximus IV Extreme
Has gone back to bios 1409 from 1850/1902
I had many problems with voltset over 5.0GHZ with the last 2 bios
I am on watercooling
1409 best to xtream oc
So on this board should HPET be on or off, does it cause latency issues?
Clear cosmos can not be done on the motherboard with bios1902
the best of my I7 2600K which x57 is happy with the high volt:(
but have not been able to put the same bios setup or it was close, the bios as I have seen with bios 1409
1409 has hig multi not 1850 an 1902
i switched to the other bios on the mobo and flashed to 1409
seems a lit better to go higher still didnt try limit

is this board IVY bridge ready and pci express 3.0 ready?.
i don't really care for pci express 3.0 ready since it's probably gonna take them a year to get video cards for it. but the ivy bridge support is nice for <1 Year upgrade.
guys
i been reading this nice article here
http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...clocking-Guide
what grabbed my att was this
"Additionally it is recommended to keep 「C1E」and「EIST」option enabled for the best overclock scaling. This is different than previous Intel overclocking expectations where the best scaling was with disabled power states or power management options."
do you guys use them ? i had them of and now i turned on and temps went down a bit on IDLE, i remember i tested this same on the UD7
cheers !
Sergio
I read that when I got the board, enabling C1E & EIST does lower the temps, by clocking the procy to ~1600Mhz in idle.
Just joined the club. Came from a UD7. ...lol
 great guys
hey whats the max bclk u get from this baby ?
im getting 108+ trying x52 now easy, its really awesome on the UD7 i blowed my raid trying 107 lol, but she did it, not at x52 of course
cheers to all

Im thinking on getting one Asus maximus 4 Extreme Z68, not P67.
Is there anything diferent frome P67 to Z68 in OC memorys ?
I have som some MNH-E that i would like to squeez...
Still on the asusrog guide.
It's mentioned about lowering...
VccSA: 0.926v - 0.933v (set to AUTO)
VccIO: 1.078v - 1.085v (have this set manually @ 1.08125v)
PHC PLL: 1.058v (set to AUTO)
PCH Voltage: 1.058v (set to AUTO)
CPU PLL: 1.773v (set to AUTO)
To get lower temps.
Now, I'm wondering how to do this... The above is what the BIOS is showing.
Has anyone tried lowering these to gain lower temps?
The AsusRog shows the following amendment to...
VRM Switching from 500 to 350 (for 4.8Mhz OC) but it seems people are sticking @ 500?
Also had some advise....
Enabling the following...
C1E
C3
C6
and setting C State to NO LIMIT.
Puts the cores to sleep/deeper when idle lowering temps while keeping the OC.
Anyone tried this or have any comments for these settings? :)
Comments appreciated :)
set PLL to 1.7 v
well i enabled this states and this happened also on the UD7, vcore on IDLE gets higher as its on 1600, when it gets to 5000 goes to 1,416
i have vcore set on bios to 1,41
LLC 75%
VRM 350
PLL 1,7
VTT 1,08
all C states enabled + EIST
http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/892/c1e.png
and this is browsing making the chip go out of C states
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/7775/c1e1.png
plz note the dif on vcore, without C states you will never see 1,424 on IDLE but enabling them YES
cheers
Sergio
hmm 24/7 oc got 1 I7 2600K to water is run 5.4 no drop to 1600
an 1 to Dice

Yea, I have it working great on my secondary rig (P8P67LE + 2600K) it idles at 1600Mhz @ 1.0v and full load it goes up to 3800Mhz @ 1.295v and is LinX maxmem stable.
Now, first few trys with my main rig have my load voltage at 5Ghz @ 1.62v. I am using the (-) setting to reduce the offset but the problem is if you use a (-) to reduce load voltage it also reduces idle voltage by same amount. Its a work in progress but will post up something once I get pretty comfortable with it.
here r my 24/7 settings using all C states and EIST :D
Attachment 119351
If you read this guide on ROG Forums for offset voltage (same place as guide you posted above) it states you enable offset voltage, then need to boot into windows and look at voltage reported by CPUZ ROG edition at load. Then you use the (+) or (-) offset to raise or reduce the voltage to get it as close as possible or dead on your known 5Ghz stable vcore (or whatever speed your running). The 1.62v was the voltage automatically set by bios so I used the (-) offset to bring it down from 1.62vcore to my required vcore of 1.49vcore (I know, bad chip and I still havent found a good one) which is a setting of (-) 0.13 (1.62 - 0.13 = 1.49vcore)
I still don't have it 100% figured out but like I said, I'm making progress. I believe my problem now is my idle voltage is unstable because the stock idle vcore at 1600Mhz is 1.00v where the offset of (-) 0.13 to be stable at 5Ghz now gives me a idle vcore of 0.87 (1.00v - 0.13 = 0.87vcore) which I believe isnt enough. Remeber, the amount you add or remove will apply to both idle and load vcore so you need to find the perfect medium I believe.
I still dont understand how the MB or CPU determines the starting vcore (1.62v) to start off with and that is what I am trying to figure out. You can select 3 different settings to enable offset vcore, "Manual" "Standard" and "Optimized".
Back to testing
Does Memory Bandwidth booster does anything? and i can't find vcore offset :\ is it hidden?
Guys did you notice that when u enable C1E and EIST AI SUITE becomes so slower that wont run and keeps freezing, also process Atek...runing at 14% CPU, try that i just did it twice to confirm before posting this...
cheers to all
Sergio
all c-states disabled here

Someone experience troubles with gpu fan stuck on stock speeds. Need to activate the auto function in evga precision or msi afterburner but whatever i do the settings reset everytime pc reboots.
Did not have this issue with evga classified. Running 2 x GTX480.
Hmm, I am having no issues but don't rember exactly all Cstate settings I have enabled. Will check when I get home and post back. Heading down to MicroCenter now to see if they have any good batches to buy. Hopefully I come back with a good one!
hmm,, so what's the difference from setting 1.62v in BIOS to using AUTO and the offset of -0.13v?
I've read the thread over at ROG forums, and if we are setting the voltage near as dammit to a stable clocked chip then what is the difference to running the voltage on AUTO = default voltage then applying the offset to achieve what you can manually set?
I know there has to be some common sense there some where, someone able to explain this please?
@sergio: disabling c-states and eist brings only a minimal better loading perf from AI @ my 1st sys... btw. there is no difference in loading AI between my 1st and 2nd sys... no matter enabling or disabling c-states :)
Could someone who has significantly reduced their overall voltage/load temps from the intial overclock please post their settings. This way others can compare and possibly deduce even better settings. With the plethora of settings in the bios, its kind of difficult to play with all of them.
Thanks!
If I understand what your asking, you want to know why use offset vcore vs just manually setting the vcore?
Ok, lets say you are using a 24/7 clock speed of 5Ghz that is LinX stable at 1.45vcore. The reason offset vcore is good is because if you enable cstate, speedstep and use offset vcore your processor speed at full load will be 5000Mhz at or damn close to 1.45vcore but if you setup offset vcore correctly when your processor is idle it will drop speed to 1600Mhz and will drop vcore to 1.00vcore or close to that depending on your offset therefore reducing temps and power usage when pc is not being loaded or in use. When you run a 5000Mhz 24/7 speed with 1.45vcore manually set not using offset vcore your processor will still run 5000Mhz at full load and drop to 1600Mhz at idle but your vcore will always stay at 1.45vcore at both full load and idle, so vcore doesn't dynamically adjust with CPU speed like when using offset vcore.
Hope I answered your question without going to in depth.
sorry to break the consistency of the thread, but just got my open box MIVE (first ob purchase ever)
It looks like it came in retail package with all the accessories, also checked with asus and warranty is good til may 16,2014 :) Anyone here ever purchase their MIVE OB... how was it?
Now all i need is for my chiller to come in the mail :)

So MicroCenter didn't have any good 2600k batches I was willing to buy (only (2) 2600k in stock) but I did find one L041C123 2500k that I have read alot of good things about. Chip was only $179.99 so I said what the hell and bought it as I was dieing to play with something new. Well I have been testing it for the past 20 minutes and it seems its a 55X chip as I can boot into windows and run 1M and 32M no sweat but wont boot at 56X with vcore up to 1.58v. Here is a SuperPI 1M and 32M. I am off to test 5Ghz LinX stable vcore and will report back.
Sorry about 1M Mhz, I still had cstate enabled from offset vcore testing so it shows 1600Mhz since its idle, it ran at 5500Mhz though.

^^ nice... i bet it'll do 5Ghz@ around ~1.42v maybe lower
What's the best bios right now? 1850?
Thanks
ok after two days of Offset vcore mode, well i don't like it, i get random freeze at idle and low load and well if i want to eliminate those randoms freeze i need to put more vcore which puts more vcore than i need on load.
so back to normal vcore.
Thanks for your reply and explanation.
Have a few more Q's if that's ok?
1: So we still need to have a max Vcore that we know will be stable in Prime/LinX set in the BIOS and NOT set as AUTO?
2: Then when we ramp down to 1600Mhz idle, how do I start to know what kind of voltage to head towards for idle 1600 Mhz?
3: Testing idle stability can only be done with general mild usage, since we cannot Prime it?
Thanks
just got my x56 chip ... really lovin this mive
Ill receive my M4E on next week, paired with a 2600k. Lest Hope everything work flawless on arrival :)
I've been playing with the offset feature.
Phase = Optimised
LLC = 75% for the 4.8 OC.
All C States to ON.
So I started off Prime and the Max Vcore I hit was 1.592v.
Going in the 0.5 increments, I worked it out to be -140 to hit my stable 1.45v Vcore.
She did not like it though. I got a freeze booting into windows. So I removed some to make it -120.
The PC rebooted.
So hmm,, am some what confused :|
Its because the amount you are taking off the stable 4.8Ghz load vcore is too much coming off the idle vcore. You need to find the perfect middle ground. I am having the same problem on my end. Wish you could somehow set the starting vcore. How/why does the bios choose such a high starting vcore? My 5Ghz starting offset vcore is like 1.62vcore. If I take what I need off to get to my stable vcore at load then that is too much off my idle vcore.
Maybe I don't understand how it works?
Also, I just had a Prime95 small FFT's run blue screen 101 after 5 hours at 50x100.3 @ 1.42vcore so I bumped it up to 1.425v and will try again.
maybe will sound funny guys
but so much prime so much linx
i bet and of course from my experience if you can play BC2 for 1 hour you will be more than stable...believe me, no need to punish chips with linx or prime, in fact i passed linx and failed on BC2 with my SLI of GTX580 OC'd :) so now its my fav guide since im on SB, so CRYSIS the old one, specially if you use downsampling on the VGA's
cheers for all

yes she is sergio :D
I'm having a lof of fun :)
today i received my second Patriot Viper xtreme 88 dollar 2000 9-11-9-27 2x4GB kit, as i said before amazing kits

But BC2 punkbuster is so bad, i get random freeze between 15min and 1hr because of afterburner or trixx... so sad
whats the best BIOS for the Maximus 4 Gene-Z?
qgshadow, open up the DPC latency checker program, its a free download, see if those programs produce DPC latency spikes. I have had programs that do that random freeze my BFBC2 on MP before.
