NEW: aquaero 5 series

I know I'm not the only one who has had all sorts of odd connection issues with the AQ5 (http://forum.aquacomputer.de/weitere...ion-with-pa2s/). I own 2 AQ5 and 4 PA2s (all with the latest firmware) and have run them in various PCs only to experience USB connection issues and loss of connection between the AQ5s and PA2s.

If you have issues like these I implore you to post up on the AC forum and let them know. Either make a new post on their forum or reply to my thread linked above. I love the AC products, but I'm tired of hearing that the issue does not lie with the AQ5 and/or PA2s.

Looks like some part on the controller is damaged and also causes the weird values.It is very unlikely that this just happens alone so maybe there is a problem with the wiring or one of the fans it not OK.

You will not be able to fix that yourself so the device must be send back to your dealer so he can forward it to us or you send it directly to us. Please note that in case of an self-inflicted damage we will charge at least the shipping costs back to you.

The aquabus has been already completely rewritten - high speed and low speed. The update will be inside the next aquasuite which should be available mid July.

This is a bit out of left field but I need some help regarding using the Aquaero 5 LT to control a secondary PSU. I want to use this Meanwell RSP 750w-24v PSU http://www.meanwell.com/search/RSP-750/default.htm to power a TEC chiller set up, it is a variable DC PSU. If you connect a 2pin cable to its control circuitry (pin5 and pin11 on the PSU's CN50 terminal) and apply 2v analog DC it will trim the PSU's output voltage to 9.6v, alternatively if you apply 5v it will allow the full 24v output and you can adjust between 2-5v for any output in between.

So my question is, what output on the Aquaero 5 LT would be most suitable for this? The requirements are that it is analog DC and can provide between 0-5v. Should I use one of the 4 12v analog voltage fan channels and set up a voltage curve of between 2-5v based on water temp to control the PSU which in turn controls the TEC chiller? Or is one of the other outputs more suitable, are there any native 5v analog outputs on the aquareo that could be used? it has to be capable of being adjusted based on the water temp, what do the aquabus LS and HS outputs provide?

Do the 4 analog voltage fan channels have any voltage ripple or are they perfect clean DC?

Also if I set up a 2-5v curve on the 12v analog output in the software will it ever exceed that 5v, ie in bootup will it run full 12v? that would damage the PSU.

Any info you can provide would be great.

You can use one of the four fan channels. The generate a clean analog output but of course like any other normal device with a very slight voltage ribble which should not matter in any way. You could also filter the signal if necessary.

There are not other connectors that you could use. Please note that the PWM channels use a pulsed 12V signal so this will not work for your purpose.

Ok, thanks shoggy, thats what I thought. I can use a low pass filter if there is too much ripple, but it sounds fine.

And it sounds like I won't need a voltage divider to ensure that it never exceeds 5v. I'm assuming the controller's non volatile memory prevents it from allowing any higher voltage than what is set, even in startup. Unless the start boost voltage for fans is selected.

I will post back in this thread when I have it all working. I think other customers will be interested to know that the Aquaero can control a secondary PSU and TEC Chiller set up, as well as all the pumps and fans.

Shoggy: imho you should be more active in announcing new AC products :), extra info never hurts in moving new stuff otherwise potential customers know nothing about.
When browsing AC's shop.aquacomputer.de noticed few new additions, some seemed rather interesting:
Flow sensor mps flow {1,2,4}00, G1/4 which are with no minipropeller/windmill alike rotating parts, getting flow readings via measuring pressure. It will probably mean least pressure drop/flow resistance of all the flow sensors. Other good points - integrated temp sensor and usb/aquabus interfaces. As 1gpm is above ranges of mps flow 100 & 200, probably 400 is one to get. They are priced same anyway with only difference being flow range they are meant to. No clue, how precise these are compared to common flow meters.
Another interesting addition seemed D5 pump with integrated usb and aquabus interface and without top (probably for use in AC's modularity system rads). Pitty it's description is only in german. It seems to have those usb/aquabus interfaces for monitoring .. but maybe also for controlling? Shoggy: might it mean something like D5 PWM pump with ability to change rpms via software or it's rpm monitoring only?

I agree with churchy. Now that you have linked me to the new inline flow sensor, I am thinking as to whether I should return the one I was going to get in favor of the new one.

I did some testing on aquaero vrm/controller (no heatsink)
Without fan: 92°
With fan (120mm 1200rpm): 47°!

Should be no problem to flash them while they are connected to the aquaero. Of course you will have to plug in the USB cable to flash. You should flash them step by step so do not connect them all at the same time ;)

So for each PA2s I have to connect it to USB, flash and repeat? If so that's a giant pain in the butt. I wish we could just flash everything via the AQ5 USB connection. Do we still need to use the old version of AS to flash PA2s or can we use AS2012?

Firmware updates are only possible through USB. You can only update the devices in the aquasuite 2012.

Hehe, you can just remove it or let it on to lower its volume.

Just have a look at this thread and you will see that the new mps sensor work completely different. There are no more mechanical parts like an impeller. I think the sensors will be available Mid August.

There is a small RED LED like light flashing in a very fast interval in my AQ5LT unit! Just above the "Aquabus High" 4 pin connector!

Yes, that LED was used for the development process as feedback for some CPU relevant stuff. It has no real function now. As long as it blinks in some way everything is fine ;)

New BETA 16 is online!

It contains some small bug fixes for the software. No new firmware or functions.

Not bad, but I wish it should have 30W~ is power support per channel.

Then, I can use it for pump control, and use for controlling bunch of fans with in once channel.

I want to say we are not air cooling guys, so we tends to have pumps and many fans on rads.

and most of us probably do not need to manage each fans in one rad, but treating bunch of fans at once.

It is interesting to see software control + hardware monitor, but still. 4 channels with 1~1.65A? I cannot do much with it.

You could connect some Poweramps to the AE5 or a few Poweradjusts. There's a slight downside of 1.5-2V drop however.

Will there be a new edition of Aquasuite ? I have the Aquastream Ultra pump.

Great products you guys are rolling out but i do have a complaint to make. This being my pre-order for a aquaro XT controller still no where to be seen. I have had my pre-order pushed back for a third time and it is getting really annoying having to wait without a close confirmation date.

How do you control the pwm fan channel 4?

I have 2 swiftech 35X hooked up to it using a pwm y cable, and the readings are going crazy.... I cant seem to figure out how to regulate the pump speed. Any tips?

The current version also supports the aquastream XT. To get all available features you will still have to use the older aquasuite 4.72 since we decided to left out some rarely used features to improve the general overview by focusing on the important settings.

Unfortunately we had a lot of problems with the production of the XT variant in the last couple of weeks so we had many delays and were only able to dispatch small amounts so far. I hope the main problems are solved now so the production should go fast within the next two weeks.

Normally the PWM signal is only used as a control signal so the pump knows how fast it should run. By connecting it with a y-adapter to both pumps it should work without any problems. It might be possible that your pumps use a different range for the frequency. Normally PWM within the PC is standardized but we already saw pumps and fans which work in another range and can not be controlled with the aquaero or only within a limited range.

The media keys are working again in version 16. In a previous version they were disabled because of a mistake.

I only can speak on how I set my self-made wire up. I connected the AE5 PWM signal to both pumps with one pump RPM signal going to Ch3 and the other to Ch4. Power and ground aren't connected.

In Aquasuite set Fan 4 to PWM controlled. Regulate speed with the Maximum fan power slider. Fan 3 which monitors the other pump can be left alone. It doesn't do anything aside from show the RPM signal.

Once setup, you can link Ch4 to a temp sensor to automatically regulate the pumps. You can also individually link them to the Fail safe. Set it to trigger an alarm or shut the system down when a pump fails.

Here's a pic of the pumps (Fan 3 & 4) running at ~ 2000 rpm. In the Controller section of Aquasuite I linked them to a water temp sensor. Using the Two point controller option I've set the pumps to Switch on at 32c and off at 30c. Then in the Fans section I've set the PWM minimum power to 36% and max to 100%. This will allow the pumps to maintain a minimum speed of ~2000 rpm. When the water temp reaches 32c the pumps will switch to full power.

The Two point controller in my opinion is more suitable for pump control over the Curve controller. This way you won't hear constant pitch changes when the pump rpm changes.

Stay away from it.

To complete the FW update, shut down your computer and switch off the PSU. Wait until all lights on the mobo/AE5 are off. After you power on again the FW will be flashed.

Aquasuite RC-1 has serious bugs. Use Synchronize log data only once and you'll have to re-install Aquasuite. Otherwise it will start up and crash instantly. Same thing happens when you go into the Overview page preferences (the page that displays all the monitored devices that you set up).

As an insult to injury the new Aquasuite doesn't work with the previous FW...don't risk flashing back though, unless they say it's ok.

(this was tested on W7-64)

BTW, the new software also requires you to redo all your overview pages and setup. It won't allow you to import any settings from the previous version.

They updated the software. The crash related to the overview page has been fixed.

There's no technical reason why they can't support the importing of prior settings. Perhaps it's a time and manpower issue. :shakes:

There is a very simple reason: the way how the profiles are stored now is very different to the previous BETA version.

Shoggy: problem being those previous betas were only versions available for long time since initial release of product HW, thus users having somewhat higher expectations despite their labeling as alpha/beta/whatever. If it doesn't take unreasonable amount of coding manpower, imho it's worth to hack together something to ease conversion of old stuff to enhance user experience.

finally got my overview page up to the way it use to be, it only took a hour or so, not sure what all the complaints are about.. sure import would have been easier, but it's a "do and forget" process and having to manually redo the overview page is far and in between, I remember doing it maybe twice since I had this unit.

The new added bells and whistles are nice, didn't have a problem with the upgrade either.. I never had a problem upgrading the firmware, been using it since Beta 9, so that's 7 releases before RC1, never ran into a problem.. Are you guys uninstalling the old version or you are just installing the new one on top of the old installation? I always uninstall old before installing the new..

Nice upgrade never the less and it has gotten a lot better, I recall Beta 9 was kinda "clunky"... Can't wait for " network remote control" feature to be implemented..

They updated the final version several times after its initial release. It appears to be working properly for me now as well.

Someone have problems with the 5 XT mine by time to time, the enter/ok button seems to be always pressed, the device its allways doing that sound, like i was pressing some button but i dont!

I got that issue for about 4 hours ago, but that was first time ever. Have used AE5XT for a couple of months now...
Still running beta (firmware 1025).

I don't think firmware/bugs was causing the issue for me this time, because I have used this firmware for a long time already. (but I'm not 100% sure)

I dont know, but this bug still going on, and on... and make me sad

I have changed the firmware from 1025 to 1026 and still the same!

My XT touchscreen buttons are really sensitive and needs to be addressed. i hope they sort it out. however it's not that of a biggie as I have set everything I wanted through the aquasuite and turned off the touchscreen capabilities.

1027 firmware and new software release available now ;)

That will depend on the used software. We changed the software sensor stuff to work with the WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation) from Windows. So most tools that writes its temperatures values to the WMI can be used. I have no idea if hwinfo does support it.

Aquasuite 2012 XML export for LCDHost for G19 colour screen..
I got some scripting done to clean the xml with an "xslt" xml template to remove the xml attributes and make a clean xml file. A batch file runs every 5 secs against the aquasuite xml file to strip the stuff that LCDHost doesnt like.
The problem I have now is that the Dataviewer looks like it can only handle 1 instance so I cant have seperate xml files processed by seperate dataviewers. While I can set each dataviewer to its own data source the data txt and data bar instances will only read data from the last Dataviewer in the list. It looks like the dataviewer templates cannot be matched to a particular connector?!?!? Ive tried making a parsing map file and having all the data in the same XML file but i dont know enough to make it work or even if the current xml structure from aquasuite 2012 would work.

Anyone got any advice?

Im using 2 data connectors in LCDHost to pickup the CPU and GPU water loop temps.. I can now add anything I like from Aquasuite 2012 XML logs to the G19 screen!


I had to create a seperate map file for each dataconnector and use the cleaned XML files which I cleaned with the XSL template script. (now running every 10secs as water temps dont change that quickly.)

CPU datamap file that tells LCDHost how to read the cleaned XML file from Aquasuite after its been cleaned with my XSL batchfile. It took hours and hours of trial and error to get this to work!

Can i connect a white led stripe with 3 pins fan connectors on the Aquaero 5 XT on the RGB led port?!

No, that will not work. The RGB port is designed to power one LED and not a a stripe with many LEDs ;)

The new 2013-1 versions of Aquasuite xml export all works properly now!
I managed to get the fan rpm signals displayed on the G19 too. The next big challenge is to setup a dedicated Aquasuite monitoring page for the G19.

For the first time in a couple years my rig is completely torn down for loop maintenance and I thought I would see what my options are for temp based fan/pump control.

I have 2 loops: 1 has 8 fans and (will be) a mcp35x and the second loop has 12 fans and (will be) a mcp35x

I would like each group of pump+fans to watch a sensor (gpus or cpu) and power down the pump via pwm and undervolt the fans.

Please let me know if this is possible and what it entails? Price doesn't matter so I could do 2x aquaero (I actually prefer 2 for aesthetics in the front of my mm ascension) but I don't have a lot of extra room for putting the addon boards.

If you want to control two MCP35X pumps separately then you will need two Aquaeros since they only have one channel that can output PWM control. For fans you can use the remaining three channels with splitters, if your fans use a lot of power then you may have to add waterblocks for Aquaero's.

It's better to link your pumps and fans to your water temp. Otherwise, with every little load change the sound of your system will vary. It'll also allow your system to take advantage of the heat buffering capacity of water. Your system will be more silent with the delayed response of your pumps and fans.

I was planning to have less of a curve and more of a cliff. For example pumps/fans always at 50% until some relatively high temp is reached. The water temp is a much better plan thanks!

Hmmm interesting, that's true that the water will buffer it, though the pump could cut a degree or three off the CPU in the mean time if that was directly PWM controlled. I do like the idea of it smoothing out though. I assume you can set it to be controlled by (coolant - air) temps rather than just water temps though because otherwise ambients will affect you though?

I've read a couple of reviews and basically the Aquaero 5 XT is the best unit out there atm, with a lot of features etc. What I want to know is very simple:

Is it possible to have a menu that shows the total number of pumps (for example) connected and their speed all in one screen?

I have 3 young ones so my ambients will always be high, it's just something I would take into account. I would probably have the gpu cliff be 55c and the cpu cliff maybe 70c. What do you think?

Also to any other aquaero users: Is either d5-pwm or 35x better suited to be run with an aquaero? I've never used d5 pumps and with all the hoopla over how quiet they are I would consider trying them this time around.

Sounds reasonable. There is also the AquaComputer D5 USB also and the Aquastream XT which all play nicely with the aquaero I believe. Martin did a nice review on the aquastream pump.

Go with whichever pumps you like most. When my system is idling or under low load my 35x pumps are running at around 2000 rpm. Only when the water temp reaches 32C are they set to run at maximum speed. By then the fans drown out the pump noise, even though they are only running at around 700 rpm. You basically never hear your pumps if you mount them properly suspended.

BTW, if you setup the pumps like I have (without a response curve), don't set the revving down temp at the same point. You don't want them to constantly rev up and down if the water temp happens to hover around 32C.

I have found that varying pump speed is really not very useful with D5 pumps. I have two of the USB D5's and having the speed change just meant that I noticed the sound more because the pumps would move from being very quite at low speed, through a louder mid range and quite down again near top speed. Now I just have them set at a nice quite speed that provides enough flow. That could just as easily be done with a normal manual D5.
Having said that the best way to do it with two pumps is the D5 usb's ... They solve all the problems of controlling pumps with the Aquaero. They aren't cheap but compared to two regular pumps and two power adjust's its cheaper.

With watercooling to me the only logical way to control fan speeds is based on water temp, or rather the air/water delta temp. The fans aren't cooling the GPU and CPU anymore, the water is doing that as long as the pump is running. How effective that water is now becomes a matter of how close you can keep that water's temp to ambient temp. The Aquaero makes it easy to set up a system that constantly gives you the best cooling vs noise balance that responds to system load, even if the ambient temp changes throughout the day, weeks, years.

I'm a little burned out on dealing with the monster that is my ascension+dual loops. My Dell U3014 comes tomorrow and I'm going to disable sli and see how a single Titan does at 2560x1600. If I'm happy with the performance I'm going to completely downsize and do a Node 304 build. If not I'm going to order Aquaeros and start working on making fan cables etc.

The pump is powered directly by your PSU with a molex connector. The USB part is for configuration and monitoring through Aquasuite. You can also monitor the pump by connecting it only by Aquabus to an AE5. You still may need the USB for configuration however (don't have experience with that particular pump).

In my opinion it's a bad idea to power a relative high wattage pump by an AE5. Better use your PSU or a Poweradjust 2 if the pump doesn't support PWM or Aquabus features.

So what causes all the heat that people need to wc their ae5? Is that just for people actually powering their pumps with the ae5? Powering the pump normally and just sticking the pwm cable into the ae5 doesn't require the waterblock on the ae5 I take it?

From what I understand, throttling of devices causes the most heat in the AE5. It gets pretty hot when you load it to its electrical limit (1.65A per channel and 5A total) and or slow everything down as well.

Just using the PWM part doesn't load it significantly. It's just a signal.

For cooling I have installed the large finned heat sink on my AE5 LT. I think it comes standard on the XT and PRO. In my system it keeps the VRMs between 45-50c. The limit before protection kicks in is 85-90c I think. Not sure about the temp though, better ask Shoggy from Aqua Computer to confirm it.

Here's my datamap files and G19 layout for those that want to see how its put together..

I added temp bars to CPU cores, GPUs and water and edited some icons and imagemap files. I now get orange indicators for when pumps, fans or flowrate are at maximum, and triangle warning when low or exclamation alert when below minimum. Temp alerts are the opposite going from low to exclamation alert.

I run my datamap files and XML from the C: root directory.
The eos-19 Layout from the layout folder using my eos-aquasuite layout.

PS. you need to create the sensor xml export files in Aquasuite using the same file names as my datamap file names without the .datamap;
For example gpu-rad1-fan5-speed.datamap.txt you put gpu-rad1-fan5-speed as the filename in Aquasuite XML export for the fan sensor. The other XML export files you need to name the same way.
To use my layout you'll also need Aida64 and MSI afterburner, otherwise you'll need to remap those sensors to whatever tools your using.

The coloured lenses you have seen are for the previous model Aquaero ... the Aquaero 4, and are not compatible with the AQ5

As far as using the swiftech fans ... Each channel of the Aquaero will supply up to 1.65A so at 1.35A they should be fine. As you probably know, the problems might come with running the fans at low volts. Any load that close to the full capacity of a channel gets very hot when the volts are forced down. I have had temps getting over 60C running 4 Noiseblocker eloop 0.25A fans at low speed. That was using only the smallest heatsink though.
That won't be a problem if you do get the water block for the AQ5 of course.

Coll thanks just what I wanted to here... And I found the waterblock at Aquatuning so I pulled the trigger on it, but $19.00 bucks on shipping oh well at least it will be kept cool now..
