Test using new water setup. Interestingly enough I couldn't bench Vantage at 1Ghz at any voltage on air but now it seems to do just fine. ( I looped it 6 times with all tests no issue ) Now its loading 20C lower than it idled on stock air :) (400/1250 idle was 55C)
I'll be interested to see how low I can get the voltage for 1Ghz.
EDIT: Vantage Performance mode

Nice score Malik, what voltage are you using to reach 950MHz?
Mine needs a 1.25V for 950 (99,9% game and ATITool stable), not really wanting to put more volts trough with the stock cooler.
Thankfully my memory speed reaches 1275, considering myself lucky as the card of a friend of mine crashes above 1175MHz.
1.2V for 950Mhz. I go higher because i want to see 22k+ score :)
Update:

Quick question guys:
When using Afterburner, do i want to select the option for Force Constant Voltage within the Settings Menu? I have already disabled ULPS for crossfire stability issues
anyone can give us XFX 5850 black edition ? gpu/mem @ 850/1200 -factory oced-
Hard to open stock fan 5870! I open all screw, but the fan stick too tight on board. What the hell like "glue" it? I don't dare to use strong hand, afraid it damage to the board!
Since this is the 58xx overclocking thread, I thought I'd post my findings with a Sapphire 5830:
Stock cooling + volts (1.15V)= 1030Mhz on core, 1250Mhz memory
vGPU mod = 1.25V + Watercooling on core = ~1100Mhz on core, 1250Mhz on memory
Still working on it...
Impressed with the overhead on stock cooling on the core, less so with the wall I'm hitting when overvolted.

After reading this review I got one of these HIS 5850's.
Is 900/1250 on stock volts (1.09v) any good for Furmark settings? I find myself unable to change the voltage though, it might get higher with a little bump. Another thing is that if I apply a setting from Afterburner the card isn't clocking down anymore, is that normal?!
Edit: Must be a new revision of this card, no voltage control available via rt either. So I guess I'm 'stuck' at 900 core.
Hi, is there any other programs for overclocking for 5850 besides AMD gpu Tool? I can't install it because insttool64.exe failes to go through.
Did you set "EnableUnofficialOverclocking = 1"?

guys question regarding benching..my card used to bench on 1035/1300 clocks with 1.28v now on my i7 setup 1000/1300 is barely stable on the same voltage and i always get a DEVICED3D ERROR:DEVICE LOST on 3dmark06 sometimes its a D3D9VertexBuffer:Locked error when i test my system for stability the cpu clocks and the system passes the stress test..now i wonder where did i went wrong..
Thanks to Someone who could help..
Curious why does the lowest power state the (157 core/ 300 mem) go away as soon as I underclock or overclock?
Is there a way to fix this?

Anyone know if the MSI GDDR5/ATI HD5870/Military Class 1024MB / Extreme Design Lightning II R5870 Graphics Card is compatible for HD 5870 CrossFireX Asus standard - the standard XFX.

Is this thread alive? :(
I can't pass 1055MHz on core with the spitfire installed, i don't know if is a problem with the BIOS, vCore :S...

So SCII on ultimated settings at 1680*1050 res brought my system to its knees. My system says low on ram. You guys think its a vidcard not powerful enough or I need more system ram? 4gig + 1 gig on 5870.
my single 5850 asus 1,28V on air but EK is comming
http://www.abload.de/img/44ghz21936129vnfm8.jpg
not really sure what's going on there. my laptop with a 4870x2 card and a Q9300 OC'd to 3ghz and 6gig ddr2 800 mem runs SCII on full everything @ 1920x1080 without issue... and my tower, well it just laughs at SCII's highest settings so... could be a driver issue maybe?
This is a full AMD platform. Specifications are in my signature.

I have the unfortunately not software overvoltable Gigabyte 5850OC, but despite that I seem to be able to run 925/1300 stock. I guess that's good enough. Running furmark for stability. I find it unusual that the RAM can clock so high, but I can't see any performance drop that would indicate ECC kickicking in. It just keeps going up. I wonder if there's a hardware voltage mod for this board? Be interesting to see what it can do with some extra juice.
UPDATE: At 925Mhz core I got rare GPU crashes, but 900 is flawless so far.
Is anybody using this BIOS? And how is it working out for you? Seems to be the latest revision available, unlocked also...
Xfire 5850's w/stock cooling.

Well, I finally got my 5970 crossfir system watercooled.
So, I can't get it any higher than this, with a combination of the ati overvolt to set the memory to 1.15V and msi afterburner to set the gpui voltage to 1.25V.
Temps are good (max 45C on the GPU and 80C on the VRM's with furmark)
When I set up this system at first on air, I was in the top 60 on Vantage...it took me a while to get the watercooling going and even though I am lots faster, I';m now in the top 80-90! Oh well....
Here's the results:
Finally pass de 1060MHz wall :D

gotta spread the word..
there's a "new" tool from sapphire called trixx for 68x0/69x0 cards that works on non reference 58x0 cards, can finally increase voltage :D !

Anyone know what would be safe voltage levels to run a 5870 under water?
I was wondering which 1 GB 6950's are still Rev. 1 and unlockable.
Hey Guys,
im having a bit of trouble getting a fan profile increase using RBE.. ive changed the profile and reflashed the BIOS but it doesn't seem to change the fan speed at all, is there any way to change the fan speed (on the BIOS) and not through CCC .. im using this BIOS:
http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/7...24.090914.html
and just leaving the clocks all standard and just modifying the fan profile.. but its not sticking.. its just constantly stuck at 21% even under full load @ around 77 Degrees C.. if anyone could help would be much appreciated :-) Standard Reference 5870
Bump.. anyone?
So I see nobody responded. Oh well, I'll just edit this post.
I got an XFX 5870 stable at 1023 on the core @ 1.27v, and I got a stock amd board to 1000 stable at 1.27v. I chose 1.27 simply because it was the average of all the successful voltages for 1ghz and above.
running in crossfire means both cards run at 1ghz.
Bump.. anyone?

Very late to the party, but I just got a Sapphire 5870 Vapor-x for cheap. Unfortunately, vcore limit is 1.16v and there's no way I can raise it.
This is my highest stable overclock:
http://i.imgur.com/R4RWSSu.jpg
I find when I overclock the memory past 1280MHz my benchmarks go down. Core goes 945MHz max but I like to stay under the max overclock for a healthier life for my GPU ;)
Holy Necro thread Batman!
