with dual core without any problems. With quad its not so simple.

hello again, :D
thats a bit warm for q66 + trux120 but anyway, i had the same problem before, why dont u see in uguru how much amps that your q66 load with that setting, try to run prime small fft, it shouldnt past 116A for load, thats under the 5 stages PWM temps if im not mistaken.. or u can try to back down ur overclock to 8x400 for example to see if the "squeaking" continues
T
no i had no problem with both prime and orthos, have donwload the latest one?
anyway, when i open uguru, then cpuz, then prime95, my pc would hang on me.. just stop. then i read in other forums regarding this, turns out that you open cpuz first than uguru.. it works for me.
so, when i open uguru first then cpuz, it hangs
when cpuz first than uguru, it works.. iguess some kinda bug within uguru with cpuz.. overall, i had no problems except than one.

Hi I've just upgraded to this board from my rocksolid BadAxe 2, and have to say its buggy as hell, random BSOD with different errors, UGuru won't work I get ConnectServer: WBEM_E_Failed and then it closes, I stress tested the memory and its fine, I'm using the 12 Bios, same issues,
I've Vista Ultimate 64bit & 32bit, and went back down to XP 32bit and I was even getting the BSOD's on the install screens.
My CPU is a QX6700 Rev B3
Memory is 4gb of OCZ Platinum PC-8000
OS Harddrive 150gb Raptor
GPU OCZ 8800GTX
PSU OCZ 850Watt
I had an Audigy 2ZS card in but took it out incase it was causing conflicts but still same issue
Has anyone any ideas on how to get my setup stable? And how to get Uguru to work?
Thanks
Hello guys!
Does anyone have a picture of where the vcore readout point is on the board? I want to measure how much vdroop the board has.
Cheers,
Robert
No, if i was to follow uGuru, the board has no vdoop. 1.50 set in bios shows as 1.50 in uGuru.
not with mine then, i set 1.275v bios, idle windows 1.26v, load 1.25v so only 0.01 droop
hope this helps you

Thanks for the pics bro! But the "retention bracket" of my Zalman 9700 is in the way. Grrr
Has anyone overclocked similar specs to mine and if so at what settings.
Specs:
Intel e8500 3.16ghz
IFX-14 cooler
Abit IX38 QuadGT
4gb Corsair Dominator PC2-8500 1066
Antec Neo power 650 v2.2
Cheers.
Whats up with this place, I posted TWICE in this thread and no bugger replies or tries and helps me...page 44 if anyone can be arsed to look...
@Gamergod: maybe its just your CPU being a bad clocker. My first e6600 was a poor clocker too, needed 1.55V for 3.2ghz.
thanks for the usless posts Klatta and assap!!!!
Seem to have got it running stable I think it was down to a damaged SATA cable connected to the Raptor, seems to be pretty stable now running the QX6700 at 3ghz, but haven't really stress tested her, will report back how far I can take her on Air.
I get a feeling that this board has been abandoned by abit engineers... They left us, IX38 QuadGT users, with latest 12 final BIOS that is still proven buggy in many aspect, especially when handling Penryn processor. And till now, not even a single new BIOS revision has been made. :(
Hey guys,
Any chance someone could check something for me. I have a Vapochill Xe which is supposed to hold the Reset high (same as holding Reset Button) until the temp drops to -5 degrees. However the PC boots straight away.
If you hold the Reset Button and press the Power Button will it boot? I'm not sure if this is something common on Abit Boards?
No probs boys, was just finding it frustrating trying to get the board stable, now it is so I'm in a happier frame of mind, yeah its a pity that Abit aren't bothering with bios updates for this board, it would put me off buying from them again in the future, although I have to say my old IC-7 is still going strong (gave it to my Dad :) ) I had chances to buy Asus and you know the reason why I didn't? Well I didn't like that they have droped the PS2 connection for the mouse! Why you may ask? Well I have two machines running off the one monitor, keyboard and mouse due to space constraints via a DVI switch and really didn't want to have to use two seperate mice.
One question to you guys, every so often I hear one of my Sata harddrives powering off and powering on again after a bit of time, can't see any loose connections anyone have any ideas on this?
Thanks
the mod from abit usa says there might be one coming out next tuesday. I hope it's true. 3 months is a long time. for their latest and highest end board.

man i was really excited about getting this motherboard...but after reading the last cpl pages on this thread i think im gonna pass...prolly go with the asus p5e x38 or the maximus formula x38 =/...abit use to be so awesome in the nf7-s days...wtf happened :(
what does it bring this new bios version ? Anyone test it yet ?!
What is it suposed to fix or bring some new features ?!
I have update to this 1.3b01 bios. Still multiper is not working for qx9650. And also ther is a bug With DDR2. When i set x9 and mems 800 after reboot bios show's 1100mhz!! This bios have many bugs!!
I think you have to enable to get the multiplier working on the qx9650. Do you mind giving that a try?
Anyone else have a feeling that ABIT in a problem?! no good bios support , no new releases when everyone else have them, like X48 and nforce 780 motherboards.
Wonder where they headed.
OOPS
Sorry, from what I am reading, you have to enable EIST to get the multipler working.
The past few months, Every motherboard I've bought into has been absolute crap in everything, from bios to support.
Abit is terrbile with the slow bios updates, and terrible RMA.
Asus has been awful with their tech support and god awful bioses for their s771 boards
Although, EVGA has been good, but with 680i not supporting Yorkfields (and nvidia claiming that it would) put a sour taste in my mouth. so I am going to stay away from nvidia for a while. Their Firewire is slow anyhow.
I really need to stick to my guns, and just go with an Intel or DFI board next time.
550 fsb on this board ,not bad :)

some 2900xt cf runs here http://www.octeamdenmark.com/forums/...6577#post16577
Man just finished setting up the board and on 1st boot, some chip on the board caught fire! Crazy. Newegg will RMA this right?
Yesterday I tried the B13 Bios, but no improvements. Divider 1:1 doesn't worked anymore with my E2160 and 1:1,5 calculated wrong Frequencies...
I'm very displeased with Abit's support.. :(
I have this board and it works pretty good 24/7 with E8400@447x9, 4xBallistix 1:1
What's supposed to be better with this board vs the IP35 Pro?
Espen
Some "whiners" here I see.
You don't call <insert-mb-facturer>-support for OC/Bios-settings. :)
This is something you find out by testing/"home"-research. Or code your on Beta-Bios (somebody actually do this) :D
If the board is (too) difficult or just a bad sample, move on, buy another mb.
Got my iX38 Quad GT a few days ago. With a Q9450.
It benches nicely at 475x8, only VCore up a notch (1.325 in Bios = 1.28 load).
Will boot at FSB=490 (but "loops" like my old Gigabyte P965-DS4).
Have not tried much tweaking yet.
Preliminary 24/7 setting is 437x8 @ 1.275 VCore. (All other Volt-settings at stock).
Rock stable.
Ok, I need some help. I was running a q6600@4 with 1.5v and patriot 4 1gb 1066 sticks at 960 (or close to) and I started having boot issues. I found out that my ram was bad and took some (2 1gb sticks) crucial 800 out my my friends computer to hold me over. We memtested the ram before utting it in my computer, no errors. I dropped the q6600 down to 3.6@1.45 with the ram at 798. Worked great for about a week and now I'm having all kinds of problems. I've gotten post codes 26, 6d, 9.9, and even freezing and crashing into windows. Games and other programs just suddenly stop working (third time typing this). I memtested the ram and it is good. I'm I right thinking that the board is going bad? Any other ideas? Thanks.
klataa, thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that I've been running everything at stock settings now for two days or so and I'm still having this problem. It takes between 10-15+ trys before it starts and will run. I don't think 1.5v is to high, I'm on phase and it never gets hot and was completely stable. Also if it was the q6600, I don't think that the board wouldn't post different codes (I think there is one that blames the cpu too, correct?) as it does and freezes at different spots? I don't think that 450x9 is pushing the board to hard, but maybe. Been running it at that for about a year now. I have another q6600 I can use, but I'm pretty sure it's the board. I guess its time to RMA, how's abit with RMA's?
I had a ocz 850w psu that i pulled out and checked, no problems with the psu. I put in an antec 850w psu and checked it before putting it in, no problems with the psu. I've been having the problems with both psu's, so I think its safe to say its the board. Thanks again.
Im having issues with latest bios(NOT BETA) with the rams on my sig. It doesnt boot up. I have to exchange the ram with anotherone set the bios V for ddr2 to 2.35 and sometimes it boots up.
IF not, it stays on C1. It boots up with cheap ass Kingston memory! :@
Is there any real fix for this?
I CANT Overclock because of the stupid C1 error, its imposible to set something on the bios, turn off, swap rams, turn on again, and pray that it boots to windows.
Help guys.
currently i have some weird issues with my vga cards not getting recognised, the fans run @full speed and fan reg doesn'T kick in.
i have to restart the pc around 3-4 times until the cards work but then all my oc settings are lost and i have to reset all timings and voltages
anyone else had this problem???
honestly with a q6600 the 12.08 was and is the best bios that i've tested with. that is with the specs below. if I had WC i'd be able to do 4Ghz with this chip easy. What more can i ask of it? 19.9k in 3dmark06
one thing on the Quads at the higher fsb speeds I get stable running conditions when i adjust the CPU GTLREF to 70% from the standard 67%. at 67% its unstable at 3.9Ghz1.45V, but with 70% 4.0Ghz was stable but my temps were too high on the cpu. maybe that helps.
Why my ram is so slow is it normal with e2160 ?
What to do to speed up ram?
Maybe try 1:1 with cpu but how setup voltages to boot at 500fsb?
My ram is OCZ PC6400 2x1GB platinium rev2 and OCZ PC8000 2x2GB
BIOS ID:12
System win xp 64bit sp2 but in 32bit its same.

lower the multi and raise your FSB...that should increase your memory performance.
Hi all!
I'd ask how a q6600 behaves in x38 quadGT? I could buy such board on low price, but I dont know:shrug:...is there a chance for a good overclocking with a q6600? I mean, I didnt tried this digital pwm stuff, I've got a p5k-e wifi now, and it has a 8 phase pwm, and can oc quads up to 3,6-3,7Ghz preety well, some go around 3,8Ghz, but over this frequency the overclocking gets very hard. My best result is 3,85Ghz 2h prime stable with aircooling. And I wonder what maximum fsb I could reach whith these CPU-s in this mobo.
i doubt you will do any better on the IX38!
I understand that, but I suggest not every mobo is the same. I mean in general...that there are different pwm controllers on most of the boards, and on this type, there is a digital pwm stuff. I aint have a smattering of that, so I thought that with this would be the cpu cooler, or less voltage could be enough for the same clock.
nope...doesn't work that way with this board...i think anything less than 8 phase digital PWM is not doing it correctly for powering the CPU...less PWM digital circuits means more heat produced in the current circuits...think about it...8 circuits on one board and 5 on this board.
Hello guys!
I just bought an e8400 to pair with this board and everytime i enter the bios, settings under uGuru are reset to default. Before when i had an e6850 i did not have this problem. I am using the 12.B09 bios.
Help me out on this one please.
EDIT: Nevermind. Installed official 1.2 bios and i get no reset issue.
if you ever experience that again always clear cmos with the battery out for about 5 minutes...usually, that corrects the situation.
8400 here to in bios it sais I have a 9.5x multiplier (like the E8500). At boot it calculate the speed with 9,5x but when i enter WIN it is 9x.....Strange
Second bugest prob is that in Winrar bench I only achive 1,078 kb/s and my colegue wint e8400@3,7Ghz has 1,556 kb/s . I saw when I start prime it gose to 1,200kb/s @me. Tryed disabling all cpu fetures in bios none helped. Any sugestions ?
Another thing : The bord lowers my multi to 6x in idle, but the voltage stays the same.....
C1E and EIST are disabled?...if so, you need to clear CMOS with the battery out...don't forget to unplug your PSU power cord.
did a clear bios (the button from the back) after swaping E6600 with this e8400. C1 and eist are enabled. If I disable them no change
Which is the latest working beta bios for this board? Any link maybe :)
It's the one dated 03/06/2009 - v1.3 Beta 01
Abit NL sent me this one, when I contacted them about some problems with E8400.
Download
Yes, I tried it. DRAM dividers are shown a little bit different, that's all noticeable diferences...
Didn't have time for something else, because I've sold the board.
And, I tried the max FSB on the board with E8400. A reached around 550MHz on stock cooling.

Would anyone recommend this board? There have been some bad things said about it in this thread but some great reviews...
I put together a new system with this board and had many hours of problems with it. Tried many things to resolve it, read the entire thread. And finally I got the board to work.
Problem was similar to another poster on page 8-11 (can't remember). The board would start, fan spins, then stop and reboot and then nothing. Tried a variety of ways to clear CMOS, total power off, pulled out power plugs to board/battery waited hours etc... Even tried different power supply as the solution found by a posted that had similar problems to me. Sometimes I get to the BIOS, usually, I get nothing at all, or the boot/reboot scenario.
The solution I found. The board didn't like my Asus 8600GTS on the first X16 slot. It didn't like it on the second slot either. But when I substituted it with an ECS 9600GT on first x16 slot, thing just worked like normal. The board now is working fine with 9600GT on first x16 slot and 8600GTS on the second x16 slot. strange huh.
Anyway, I'm down to the last problem, and that is 'Sleep' mode. The computer will power down. But when it powers back up, fan spins etc.. but I get nothign on my screen, and when I push the power button to turn it off, it does nothing (I assume it must be hanging.) I was on the v12 bios, will try upgrading to 13 and see if that's the problem. (The computer will work fine out of sleep mode if I set the BIOS with the other suspend mode (S3?) whereby your computer stays running but the HD turns off.)

For those that are using Abit Airpace on Vista 64 bit machines, there is an additional step to installing the driver. You have to manually direct your drivr search to the system32 folder under you c drive (after installing driver.)
Recieved my new board yesterday from RMA. Was planing to run with my Crucial PC5300 D9 memorys but i only got C1 all the time. So i decided to try with my transcend and woohoo it booted. Installed xp and update to the latest driver in hope that my crucial would work. But no go , tried to set the voltage to 2v with my transcend and then shift memorys to crucial but it didn´t worked either. Have tried single crucial i every slot. So does Abit really hate Crucial ??
I had the same combination.
Abit and Ballistix 5300.
So, as you said, the board wont boot, so I tried different memory, same Transcend (but not D9Gxx)
So, I'd always put a voltage at somewhat 2.3v, then let the board boot, till the Win boot screen, then turned it off.
Put out Trand, and put in both sticks of Ballistixe, and it always worked.
I've had that situation every time I cleared CMOS.
So I've saved a profile and had that stick for emergency.
Hope you'll get it working with Ballistix.
The thing with the memory needing 2.4v to boot, as my ocz sli kit, is a no no. IF i go and OC the :banana::banana::banana: out of it, and it doesnt boot, i have to remove the ram, switch it to another stick, change the bios settings, turn off, swap ram, and pray that it boots....this is ridiculous. I testing some more ram, but i think its going to be the same thing. Does the latest bios fix this?
Tried the board under vapochill this weekend. I strange thing is that everytime i enter the bios for changing fsb & voltage " No super settings " and save and exit. The board shuts down and the boots and shut down again. Then i have to turn it on again with the powerbutton and all settings are restored to original :(
Can only like overclock in Uguru and that´s not the best everytime. But manage to do 562x9 with my E8400 one time.
What settings were you using? I could 555MHz on stock air with mine E8400. It seems that this board doent like cold too much.
I remeber that zbogi had problems with NB on LN2 (IIRC) on this board. His BIOS was all messed up, that he could only use uGuru (but still ge managed 600MHz.)
Whats the best BIOS for ABIT Quad GT X38 mobo?????????
Quick question:
I've got the Abit IX38 QuadGT brand new and haven't used it yet. I currently also have a DFI T2R P35 that I'm using. I'm wondering if I should swap out and go with this Abit IX38 board, but not if it's truly not worth it. I have an 8800gtx and thinking of selling it to go with the HD4850 (and maybe xfire) in the future.
Any input? Should I swap my board? I'm just afraid that the P35 may not hold me down as far as xfire and the X38 is better... or should I go with a diff chipset? Thx in advance.
Most would say v.13 official, available here.
Depends on what you're going for. I doubt it will overclock much farther that the P35 chipset, but it might do it with slightly less voltage (I mean a tiny bit if at all). I guess it's up to you whether you think it's worth the difference between PCIe 1.0/1.0a & PCIe 2.0. If you feel like playing with your system just to see the difference, go for it. If not, leave well enough alone, sell the new IX38 and get the IP45 Pro when it comes out next month.
I'm in the middle of updating the original thread.
If you can see any coolers or ram that are not on the list that are compatable, can you please post here?
Thanks.
Hey all
I'm completely new at Intel chipset like this one and I just bought this motherboard for CF, yeah it rocks! 200% from single card solution
But does anyone can share their voltage settings? I'm wondering the voltage for 3.4GHz and 3.6GHz Q6600
Thanks in advance
try some of the settings here see Overclocking, Bios Settings & Benches
luck:)
Well give us a clue what components your running & ppl may be able to help :ROTF: All we know at the minute is your mobo :shrug:Quote:
I try some, none applicable here
luck:)
Thanks for the input guys. I recently purchased 2x 4850s to replace my 8800gtx, so I think I'm going to swap out my DFI T2R P35 board with the IX38 QuadGT... but before I do so, I'm trying to ask around to see if a different board is much better... such as the Asus X48 board and whatnot... I definitely don't want a $300+ board, but there are some in the low $200s that I was eyeing:
ASUS P5E Deluxe LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
DFI LANPARTY DK X48-T2RS LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
or thix 38:
ASUS P5E LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
I mean, if I was to buy a different board I feel like I might as well go with X48...
It seems like many of you are happy with the Abit IX38... I just hate changing motherboards (takes half a day with my setup between wire management, watercooling, re-installation of software) so I always like to make the right choice in the beginning...
What is the pll for clockgen ?
I implemented the Abit IX38 QuadGT into my system yesterday and have been having nothing but problems. BIOS decides to sometimes lose cmos memory (if I said that correctly), and often I have to load a profile again or manually.
The biggest problem that I can't figure out is how to boot from a damn CD ROM!!! I have dual 74gig 16mb raptors in raid0 on sata ports 3/4, a hitachi 400gb on sata 1, and my two Samsung DVD Burners on sata 5 and 6. RAID is enabled b/c of my raptors. Even when I set 1st, 2nd, and 3rd boot device to SATA CDROM it still won't boot my damn WinXP CD. *edit* NVM, there seems to be an option on the boot choices that gives the specific name to the DVD drives... the "SATA CD ROM" really tricked me!!
Oh, and another stupid, stupid problem. The half multi was JAMMED after I did a bios update to the latest one I found on abit-usa. I think that was version 12. The half multi, even when I changed it in bios and saved, would ALWAYS be at the HALF multi. When I go back into bios, the half multi is BACK! It was haunting me!! The only way to fix it was to come here and download BIOS 13 and flash to that.
scroll right down through the list of boot devices (the list will extend past the window) & probably about 2nd or 3rd last you will find your ODD listed by specific device ID rather than a generic CD/DVD label.
edit: oops, see that you worked it out.
BIOS release V14 for IX38 QuadGT
Release information:

2. Fixed the power-on switch unable shut down when to set "Password¨ to shut down..
3. BIOS compiled date: 07/01/2008

This is a great bios, shaved 0.01 off my voltages for a stable 3.2ghz @ 1.21!
Still cant get 3.6ghz with anything less than 1.33 :( Any suggestions on getting it this high with less voltage? ( using mch 1.30 )
To this day I've never had to really tweak CPU VTT. It looks like this IX38 QuadGT truly needs a rise in VTT when pushing ~1.28vcore and more. It's funny b/c I was losing my mind for about 45min until I figured out that was all it took. I went from 1.10v to 1.15v and it helps, but still BSOD... then pumped to 1.20v and viola!!
Now, I still have to mess with GTL, but this is a start... just had to get a feel of this mobo. I'm coming from a DFI T2R P35 and needed this board for xfire dual x16 lanes.
Ok i need some advice plz. Im running Vista x64 can i use a ms dos boot disc i used to use when i had xp installed to start in Dos? if not how do i do it as i want to update my BIOS to 14
yes your dos floppy should work ok. Or you can use a usb drive Ace's Bios Flashing Procedure tells you the how.
Just to add to this thread that BIOSes 13 and 14 are incompatible with the PowerColor 4870x2 (and possibly all 4870x2 boards), resulting in a black screen and post code 7F.
I certainly hope we see BIOS 15 some time soon.......
Yes, I downgraded to 12 to get system stability but now have lost x.5 multipliers. Seeing as my CPU is 8.5x, its a bit of a pain and I am holding out hope!
I emailed ABit support with an extensive list of what I tested and what conclusions I came to, so hope they will re-produce and fix the issue.
