Decided to push my chip a little harder. Previous stability test @ 3.6. I will never use this speed but it's nice to know it will run @ 3.8.

CROSSG, i see that ur not running small fft's, should run those. at 3.75 i can run blend, but my computer restarts within mins with small fft's, i can bench at 3.75 but small fft's are not stable, they are only stable at 3.6, and my temps are right now 57c on the hottest core on water, those temps would rise if u run small fft's, i hooked my radiator on the back of the case and my temps went down like crazy, more than 10c. first i had it in my lian-li on the bottom, and my load temps at 3.6 were 69c. now 57c.
sorry i see that ur running large fft's but for me small ffts stress the most, and produce most heat. well here is a screenshot at 3.6 prime on water. made a big difference putting the radiator on back of my pc, about 10-13c

Got my Q6600 GO today:up:
Start testing on air for now(as soon as i can find a good air cooler in stock:( ).
Finally switching to water next month. I will post results as soon as i`m up and running.
i got mine stable at 3.6 and temps are 56c on the highest core under load with small fft's. i can bench at 3.75, but prime shuts off anything higher than 3.6. i am pretty happy with 24/7 at 3.6 but my chip does 3.6 at only 1.39vcore loaded, and i dont know why it shuts off at anything higher, i think my board might be limiting me.

NKD: what do you mean by your board shuts off anything higher?
sorry not my board, i meant my computer, i run small fft's at 3.6 forever with 1.39vocre loaded vcore or mch voltage didnt help any, but anything higher with in about 10 mins of prime the computer just shuts off. i can bench at 3.75 though but cant prime anything higher than 3.6
A reboot is normally caused by needing more vcore I found.
Could be temps if its shutting down/off, whats the PWM/CPU temps?
Thanks. I do have a really high flow fan on the ultra 120 extreme but I am still quite happy. It is on the bench and ambient is about 25c. Vcore in bios is set to 1.4625 I believe. I'll try higher tomorrow.
those are good results, what is ur room temp, mine is 20-22c on average, its weird here, 2 days this week were hot as hell and now the temps are in the 70's the highest, freeking weird temps by the beach.
Works here.
I'm trying to work out if 'A' or 'B' chips are better or worse than eachother. Most people seem to have 'A', but is that because there are more of them around or that they clock better?
I just received a L726B (you see why I worry?), pack date 08/21/07 so it's very fresh lol. Waiting for an Asus P5K3 Deluxe, got 2GB CellShock DDR3 1800 8-7-6-21 already in the bag. Need some silicon grease and conformal coating, this is going under the Vapo LS. Might give it a run on the stock HS before that tho.
Can't seem to get 3.8 with small fft's. Went up to 1.525 vcore in the bios which turned out to be 1.4800 under load. I don't think the extra vcore is worth the extra 100mhz so I will probably run 3.7 as my 24/7 clock. Now I just need to get my ram dialed in and I think I will call it good.
I find my 720B chip pretty amazing. MP05-LE water cooled also Vmoded 8800GTX in the loop set in bios 1.5675v benching 4130mhz with no problems 3dmark06

Nice crossg and temps still look good. Maybe I'll give mine another go when it cools down a bit here. What are your other voltage settings?
Thanks.:) I should have stated that this speed is not useable for me becuase of the fluctuating ambients, it's 22 deg now but by this afternon it will probably be around 25 deg and that temp will probably push my core temp over 70.:( I think 3.6 is going to be my 24/7 clock.
Anyways my voltages are:
PCIE Freq: 101
Vcore: Bios 1.5375v / 1.5040v Load
Clock Over-charging Mode: Auto ( haven't a clue what this does)
CPU Voltage reference : 0.63x

All the other usual stuff disabled.
Going to switch over to Vista and see if I can get 3.6 stable with the same settings as I use in XP. About 20 more proccesses running in Vista.
ur right crossg, i got mine running at 3.6 24/7 and i am quite comforstable with c1e enabled and idling at 2400 and under load 3.6, i really dont need 3.6ghz when i am browsing the net and watching movies, lol, full load temps are 57c with small fft's
how does my OC look?
I think i got a crap of a g0
im at 3454Mhz
1.4625v Vcore
its orthos stable for about 2hours so far.
temps are 69,65,69,62
my VID is 1.275v
FSB is 1.5v
im on a 680i board with a Tuniq and MX-1 Paste.
ive got it to boot at 3.6 and do small things. but that was with a 1.4750 Vcore.
it seems after reading in this thread that i should have either lower temps or a higher clock, where im at right now.
im trying 3.6 as we speak. im on my laptop while this is going through Orthos. im hoping it will stay stable.
temps arent going above 67*C. ambient room temp is 23*C

right now im on:

Vcore: 1.400
FSB: 1.5
NB: 1.55

NB & SB: 1.55
and no im not TOO familiar with the 680i. ive only had it running about 4 days now. im steadily learning from this thread lol
edit* speed fan is reporting a 1.39Vcore. CPUz is reporting a 1.382Vcore. i used a #2 pencil earlier to do the pencil mod.

@spajdr : Run it !!! I want to see B in action :) :)
Hazzan : will do
CPU-Z shows that i have 6x multiplier, while i have multiplier disabled, so it should show 9x, default vcore flying btw 1.15 and 1.2V, is that normal default voltage? looks like mobo dont support this piece very well :o
Hazzan, what's cooling for your max screen Q6600 G0 @4680??
Same chip as mine vende][a, but didnt give me much luck. Also got a B chip with same pack date from same store. Does bascially the same. Both have high VID's 1.3125v and 1.325v. Both im struggling For much better than 3.33Ghz prime stable (small ftts). They require like 1.42v to get prime stable at 3.4GHz, this is what most take to do 3.6Ghz or more. Not getting it much over 3.5Ghz area for benching. Im hoping its my board playing up. Will be interesting to see how u get on.
Hey, I've finally got my computer together after lots of waiting for parts. The bad news is though I wasn't initially impressed with the Q6600 the speeds weren't as blazing as I had initially hoped. Then I was getting ready to overclock and I noticed that my clockspeeds were way to slow! According to CPU-Z it's running at 1.6 Ghz (267x6) instead of the standard 2.4 it should come at. Does anyone know why this would be? It's been a while since I've built a computer so this whole process I've been afraid of damaging the parts with my undeft handling. The computer runs without any problems and I do realize that if I damaged anything by rough handling or overtightening then it wouldn't run at all, still though I'm paranoid. :hm: Anyone want to tell me what they make of this?
I'm going to start the overclocking and report what I find, but any insight as to why my processor is throttled back by 33% from default would probably be pretty valuable.
@moons shadow
That's what CPU-Z says for my quad G0 too! What the heck is going on?

@crossg
Wow, thanks it worked. I just got this thing up and running two days ago on a open air station, everything at stock cuz I wanted to run some stress tests before I install everything in the case and OC.
Core Temp 0.95.4 says 23, 26, 28, 30. I wonder how much they will increase after going in the PC-A70B. This is all new to me but it's fun!
Hi, this might sound like a dumb question but are the voltages people are reporting the voltage that they set in the bios or the voltage that CPU-z reports? I'm asking because I'm having some pretty severe vdroop on my pk5 deluxe. I get about 0.07 V drop idle and 0.122 V drop under load. I'm still kind of inexperienced at this so I'm still figuring this out.
If your curious at what I'm doing to it now currently I'm stress testing it at 388x9 at 1.45 in the bios (so the Vcore in cpu-z is 1.328)
temps between 52~55C
But I've only been running it Prime95 for about 20 minutes so far.
Also who has used the pencil mod on a P5K deluxe and got good results with it? It seems like lots of people are reporting not needing a vdroop mod, I guess I'm just unlucky.
:) Most people report both Bios voltage and load/real voltage. That vdroop seems severe. Do you have the Voltage Damper enabled? What version of CPU-Z are you using. The newest vesion 1.41 reports vcore very well, the earlier versions were somewhat unreliable for vcore. You can use AI Suite or PC Probe to give you a good idea of what the voltage is loaded and unloaded.:)
Yeah, I have vcore 1.41. Although tonight I learned a lesson Auto does not necessarily mean "enabled". I tried the pencil mod it changed my total Vdroop to .092 from .122. I enable the Voltage Damper and it goes from 0.092 to .02 . So now I'm running at 1.425 bios 1.400 Prime95 @ 400x9. I had it going for an hour but the RAM was getting too hot so I lowered the RAM voltage and restarted. Wish me luck. Hopefully by the time I wake up this morning I will have something concrete to post about.
Hey, its been a while...
Picked up a Q6600 G0 L720B058 from Scan the other week and have been running it at 1.38v for 3.5GHz on my Commando so far, but the temps were on the high side:- 72c at full load under a Tuniq Tower 120.

Vcore 1.38v
Idle 39c
Loaded Small FFT's 72c
http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/7981/3500np8.th.png
Anyway, obviously temps were holding me back quite a bit so I Lapped the Q6600 and didn't see any noticeable improvement so I bit the bullet and bought my first watercooling setup:-
D-Tek Fuzion
PA120.3 + Shroud + Nexus Fans
MCW30 Chipset block
1/2" Tygon R3603 tubing
Laing DDC w/ Petra's DDCT-01s Top Combo
With the same ambient I've seen a 16-17c temperature drop when running at the same bios settings and the AS-5 has yet to settle in, I can't believe it made that much of an improvement over the Lapped Tuniq and the whole setup runs much much quieter than the Tuniq... Needless to say I'm pretty impressed!

Vcore 1.38v
Idle 34c
Loaded Small FFT's 56c
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/3...00wcyh3.th.png
I'm going to keep looking for the optimal balance of temps/Mhz so I'll post any interesting results I get when I get them.
Maff
Got my Go today 726B 1,23 vid. WC at 3,6Ghz Prime stabel 1,36v. Should be able to get it to 3,8 but that i will test later.:)
Alright I've finished my first successful overclock attempt. Here are the specs

This still seems pretty hot to me, especially since I'm watercooling with a D-Tek Fuzion waterblock and PA 120.2 radiator. It makes me think that I might have improperly mounted the waterblock (I've heard overtightening causes concave bowing) and I'm tempted to lap the processor. But I'd like some feedback first. It might be worth noting that my AS-5 has not cured yet and I know that will give me a drop of a few degrees. Comments?
seems like a huge difference between the cores. Have you tried messing witht he 4 mounting screws yet? To tryand even out the mounting pressue and what not.
Hey I got a the following prob I got here a P5K Deluxe ( tried the folllowing BIOS: 0311 and 0411) , and there is no way I can get something with multiplier 9x stable Prime95 25.4 small FFts. My goal was just to run 400x9, however I could get 438x8= 3504mhz with just 1.368vcore during load( and 1.4NB / 1.3FSBv)( 1.41 set in BIOS) and like almost 13 hours stable with small FFts, But 9x389=3501 will reboot again within hours...... And 400x9 is no go, I went upping the BIOS up to 1.4825v( which will be 1.440v during load), from this point I didnt tried higher in order to keep the temperature under 71, and it will all reboot within 3 hours of small FFTs. a friend of mine tested my cpu before ( under water tho), but it was on a P35 GA-DQ6 board, and he could get it stable under around 1.38-1.39 vcore for 400x9......anybody got any clue? I tried upping the NB volts up to 1.55v and the FSBv 1.4v, but it got no sense, since I can get 438x8 stable with just 1.3FSBv and 1.4NBv...
*another note: I got a 70mm ( old amd s939 fan) ontop of the upper mosfet heatsink, normally it would be blazing hot to touch during load, now it doesnt even feels warm...... and a 60mm mounted on the NB.. so there isnt any cooling issue there....

Will flesh out with more benchies and max overclock later.
An update on my Q6600, its Prime stabel at 3800 1,46v will have to try to lower the Vcore to find out when it gets unstabel.:D
If it's the same as mine, a L723B, which has a difference of about 9c between cores, I suspect it's not the mount.Quote:

I've spent a great deal of time, trying to remount with a bowed apogee GT, using mx-1 and mx-2 (not at the same time), and it's made very little difference. To add to this I've also tried the chip on a friends setup, with a standard apogee GT, and the same. This is on two different boards.
The fact is my previous q6600, a L724A ran with cores all pretty much even, which I'd say confirms the mount is not really part of the equation.
Will give mine a lapping to see if that imporves the situation, but not expecting miracles.
That aside this L723B is a pretty decent chip, priming at 3.825 ghz with 1.47v.:D
RLM
On another note.
Previous to having my L723B, I hand another L723B. The vid on the previous one was 1.3 and the performance, was at best average.
I then went on the hunt for a L726A. I'd seen a few about.
So I bought a L726A385. Or at least that's what I thought.
On the side of the box, on the printed label it said L726A365. It's only when a friend pointed something out to me, that I took off the waterblock, cleaned the chip up and on closer inspection found it was in fact another L723B.
The warranty card inside also has two steppings on it, L726A and L723B.
The positive thing is that my current L723B is 1.27vid and performs a lot better.
Don't know if this oddity is limited to here in Thailand, but it's certainly worth inspecting the chip's IHS carefully before purchase.

I just received my Q6600 G0. I've been messin around with it and I haven't been able to get it past 2.9Ghz @1.3. I set the the fsb to 1333 x 9 , mem @ 800 , but this was not stable. after uping the voltage to no avail I lowered the multiplier. Still not being able to get into windows I looked through all my options and I can't seem to find out what I need to lower to use this fsb. Can some one please help get me in the right direction. I know nothing about this board and chipset.
UPDATE: I flashed the latest bios and currently quad priming at 3Ghz. NvMonitor at 62C.

Hi all.
I want to buy a Q6600 G0 to
But witch one can i take for the best one.
I want that i can drop the Vcore to 1,100 or lower maybe.
I wanna use it to for Underclocking and overclocking.
I have called a online shop, and they tell me that they have the L726A365
(dont know fur sure the number are the same)
But i'll be sure they say its a A model.
Is this a good one, and what are the VID's of this one ? some knows ?
P.s what meens WC (sorry my englisch are not so good)
So i dont know the abbreviation WC
Edit already know (another toppic :P) its Water Cooled..
Snake_Eyes,
As you can see from our little QC OC database there's no clear correlation between OC'ability and weeks for GØ cores.
I got question...I got orthos error when stressing with blend but it's strange becasue my keyboard capslock is starting to blink when this error happens. keyboard is bbluetooth one. I tested it on another usb slot and same thing. So is it normal that when orthos fail it's cpu oc that fails or it's something else in system?

Here is mine, 24 hour Prime stabel only 1,44v. It will run 3,9 with same vcore ,but core 4 will fail Prime after a while.
http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/6467/q6600uv6.th.jpg
I just reaplayed my AS5 to improve my temps, but i didnt. Now i am triying to figure out how low i can go on the Vcore before it fails Prime, like i said only 1 core didnt want to run 3,9 at 1,44v. So from what i have seen this must be one of the golden Q cores out there. My Vid is only 1,23v and tried to run 3,6 on that ,but that was a no go, so at 1,36v its was Prime stabel 24h 3600Mhz.
AFAIK, VID has shown no correlation with overclockability,,
just temps, I guess..
BTW, can you post MAX FSB for your q6600?.. thanks guys..
Got a new Q6600 from ClubIt today batch: L724B175 VID: 1.2625v OEM not retail..
Here is a quick test of two hours prime stable & its lowest vcore set in bios 1.2625v.
Just wanted to see how far it would go & still be stable without moving the voltage.
I did bump the MCH one notch was all, everything else was at stock setting except ram.
Load shot note actual vcore is only 1.19v real volts under load.
I'll do more testing later on, letting it burn in some at 3.2.

Don't agree with that. Looking at your table, volts required etc, and my own 'B' they seem about on par with the L726A's:).Quote:
Actually from what I've seen so far the A batches are outperforming the B batches, and the most consistent week for a good overclock is week 26. So look for a L726A*** quad and you have a really good chance of getting a pretty nice overclock

RLM
What mine personally:confused: I posted a prime run in your database earlier 3.9 ghz at 1.52v. Admittedly not a long run:)Quote:
Then you need to and look again. The A batches are requiring less voltage than yours and are running faster. Volt for volt the A's are getting higher than the B's
I did look again and you could be right, however you do seem to have B's doing prime runs at 3.6 ghz with 1.38v sat below A's doing 3.6 ghz with 1.41+ volts.
I'll admit I'm a sketchy sod, so I could be missing something. Does look like maybe some re-ordering is needed though. Yes/No?
What I will say is that the B's are inconsistent. My last L723B(same stepping) had a vid of 1.3 and was at best average.
RLM
And my 726B does 3600 1,36v and 3800 1,42v Prime stabel.
I didn't mean for this to turn into some B v A wars. It's all a bit petty isn't it?
No dis-respect CraptacularOne. I'd been thinking that we needed a Q6600 database here weeks ago, and at least you've been bothered to do that.

Well as I said with my experience of the B's you can have two of the same stepping with different vids, so it's hard to say.

My current one is 1.275 and the previous 1.300. The previous one needed 1.45v to prime 3.6ghz and this one 1.36v.

Hey guys,
I checked the driver signing for the Q6600 and it says 04/01/2004 from Microsoft. Is this what you guys have?
I looked around at Intel site for a driver for this processor but didn't find anything.
My old AMD had a driver for the processor so I assumed it worked that way with others. This is my first Intel processor.
here's my Q6600 with ABIT IP 35-E
this cheap board is not bad at all
EDIT : on stock cooling :D
