!UPDATE! abit AW9D-Max (retail) arrived

My 24/7 setup is 3.2GHz (400 x 8) with E6600. I have 2GB Corsair PC6400C5 at 4-4-4-12 and a Scythe Ninja Rev B. It is stable as a rock. Just for the sake of standard testing I did a 12hr orthos and it passed. 42C idle (C1E and EIST off) and 62C in Orthos.

Vcore: default (1.35V in uguru)
Vmem: 1.9V
Vmch: 1.65V

orthos beta's blend test give me a "Hardware Detect Failure" after 3 secods....all other modality of orthos works well....someone has suggestions? :confused:

all right. i've measured the vfsb and found it to be at 1.20-1.21.

i've done the vfsb mod and is now at 1.37.

i'm gonna see if this gains me stability at 411 fsb.

Wait till someone actually releases a 975 board that can run 400+ fsb othos stable as the norm not the exception. if you read some of the threads here you will see that most people cant run 400+ fsb othos stable on any 975 board!

well 411-412 is a no go on orthos blend :(

it keeps erroring out at 3 minutes 53-57 seconds. tried about 10 times with different vcore, vdimm, vmch, vfsb.

oh well.

so i'm trying 10 x 370 now.

vcore 1.525
vdimm 2.20
vmch 1.75
vfsb 1.30

and it's running orthos blend for 30 minutes. so far so good. :)

vmch booster mod + vfsb mod seem to help out. i couldn't do 3.7 yesterday w/o blue screening.

i tried the blend test to 400*8, 400*6, 389*9, 378*9 and 356*9 with E6600...with all vmch, vcore and vdimm...nothing

....the error says "Hardware Detct Failure" and immediately, after 3 seconds and not that the system doesn't resist :confused:


with system default all on auto also in uguru section the blend test works normally :slapass: :confused:


...some other valid software to test the general stability on conroe? :)

Sorry to cut in right now, but would you say that Abit has an equal performing bios with the P5W-dx; even though ASUS has released more updates? Please correct me if I am wrong.

I've been following this thread since I am very interested in this board. I own a MSI 975 which is probably the worst of all conroe boards. I've ran orthos stable at 3.6ghz for about 9 hours and at 1.5vcore, but if I go up to 3.7ghz, and max out every vcore possible I also get an error after about 3 seconds of blend. Every other test is supposedly stable, and after a good 4 hours of a battlefield2142 on my offday binge, it never froze or locked up etc. Weird indeed

I did some testings on air ..... I wonder why you guys can't reach high in Orthos blend test......:(

I bumped up to 441MHz and after an hour, I gave some more.....451MHz fsb seems to be OK....One hour running.......when I find some time I'll test for more......
Maybe you must check your Ram timings or something like that.....:confused:

Nothing special.......Just wanted to see the fsb and I had put them at Cas 4-4-4-12......VMCH = 1.87V real, Vfsb moded at 1.55Volts(for everyday use/light benches) and Vdimm as low as 2.66Vdimm for everyday use....I think that the Northbridge with all these "high" voltages, does quite well......and CPU at 70*C+ due to luck of a heatsink.....Container was just "placed" on it, without even screw it so as to make a good contact with pressure on the CPU......;)

High?......I play under cascade > VCore=2Volts (I have OVP at 2.04Volts), VMCH=2.05 to 2.1Volts, Vfsb 1.7Volts to 1.85Volts and Vdimm=2.66Voltsto 2.85Volts.....
I think that those volts are OK for aircooling....I think so though......:)

Yes but we're talking about max stable fsb here and not max stable frequency........Maybe the CPU isn't stable and produces errors at higher frequencies, so the user thinks that the mobo's fsb can't do it......One of the guys with an 6600 should run a Prime-Orthos Blend with lower multi so as to see IF it's his CPU that cuts him down or the fsb itshelf.......In the other hand we HAVE to consider that NOT all of the CPUs can reach high fsbs nor all of the Northbridge chipsets......Each one does it's own.....;)

In my case the cpu is capable of more than this motherboard allows. Even with cas 5 no go. Still I can game at 420fsb, but Orthos bogs out early. Same cpu with all same hardware 425fsb Orthos blend stable on another motherboard without mods..

It's crap that the mobo won't run with FSB 400+ in blend stable. I should mod the board.

I have been trying to get >400 Orthos Blend stable like you and finally making progress.
What I did:
-Cut off the stock NB HS only and add Swiftech MCX159-CU using 7200RPM 40x20mm fan.
-1.8VMCH and 2.2Vdimm (Failed at this setttings before)
-Ram @ SPD which is 4-4-4-12
Currently Blend stable for >2hrs now at 4.01ghz (401fsb). I will try to go higher and post screenshots later.

I was able to get orthos 8 hrs stable @439FSB but I used a E6400 L628B. I failed to back screenshot before I reformated and set up for P5B. I'll move the chip back to it this weekend. Looks as though the 400FSB + issue is with conroe's.:(

Anyone has gotten the bass management working with dolby live digital out? LFE works with 5.1 material and if i click sub in audio io page bass makes sound but the bass management "send all bass to subwoofer" does nothing. I have tried many realtek drivers and driver cleaners with no luck.

IF you bench Super-Pi, go into registry and make the LargeSystemCache=0 instead of 1 which must be right now......Or go to "my computer" and change it from there so as to be "for programs" and not "for system cache".....:)

I suggest that you can try to have a fan to blow the northbridge.. since the cooler of your cpu is water cooling. :)

Sorry, but I already have a 120mm fan blowing on the NB! :p: No way, NB is cool but still problems in ortho. Also I can't boot over 425 MHz FSB, just blackscreen. If I overclock in Windows, I can got up to 445 MHz! Very strange!

Just out of couriosity, all of you that have problems over 400MHz fsb, work with 7900x2......Could you try to test with another VGA or even PCI VGA to see what will happen....:confused:

Hmm, I use 2 7900GTO cards, but I will test with an old PCI VGA card. Hope this will help me to find the problem. But it's also bad if my new cards won't work.

Stupid question, but does it helps when I pinmod the E6600 to FSB333 to get a higher FSB on the Mobo?

I have noticed a little problem with 3 hd and the raid on ich7...i have 2x36GB WD Raptor 8MB and 1x250GB Maxtor SATA 16MB...i have connected the 2 raptor to sata ports 1-3, in the bios "Integrated Peripherals"-->On-Chip IDE Device" i set "On-Chip SATA Mode" = RAID and "SATA Raid ROM" = Enabled...

....all ok, i reboot and creat array in intel matrix bios with the 2 raptor

after created raid array, i connected the 250GB Maxtor to sata port 2 but the boot firm to detecting ide device and not continue :slapass: ....only after reset cmos the boot is completed but just to next reboot oh the system, the problem is repeted.....

if i disconnected from ports 2-4 of the ich7 or connected the 250GB on silicon controller, all works fine....have i wrong something? :confused:

i just got this board up and running yesterday and my first impression is all positive. i am getting better results on my 6700 than on the p5w-dh i poreviously had, currently at 3.6g and rising so all is good.

only one problem i had is i was looking to run 4 x Raptors in RAID 0, but one of them that i bought is DOA, gutted, still being swapped out Tuesday so should be all good.

Shark 2 - i have also noticed the 3 HDD problem you are getting i found if i swapped the 3rd drive to the other header it was fine, cant remember the number of the headers but it works

room temp is from 24-27 .. depence if i turn on the heating

i have 2 fans blowing in and 2 out and have 1 fan blowing air inside under the graphic card..

however the x1950xtx is very noisy at full load,

ill run orthos now.. did pass the 5 min tests.. didnt bother to do it longer


the temps are uguru temps, as TAT dosnt work for some reason on my system, and i would like to know if any managed to run TAT and if o how ?



by the way.. does the Tuniq tower fit in the awgd-max?

TAT does not work for me either, I use Core Temp... But, I believe it displays 4-5C higher temps than TAT @ 100% load.

my system run for a week stable with 334x9 on normal vcpu/2.2 vram and 1,55 vmch. well.. for 30 min i start my pc and it load fail settings.. i dont think anything bad about this.. laod my bios settings, restart and black screen..
so i turn power off / on and now it wont start :(

the mb becomes power, can see it on leds..
for some weeks i read a topic with a guy who has the same prob.. he removed the bios module or something.. cant find the thread.

if anyone knows it, plz help :(

This happened to me once, remove the battery and put the cmos jumper to the clear position and wait for 2-3 mins and put it all back the way it was and it will boot up.

In my case I forgot to change my ram divider down and it tried to post at ddr1000 at 3-3-3- at 1.8v and the board would power on then turn itself off with a wierd mobo code like C1 or something.

Yep I do 401 x 9 24/7 myself np, no mods. For low stress I'd advise using power management so your rig will idle @ 2.4GHz and kick up to 3.6GHz under load.

Seems like a good mobo. May have to get one.

ok I am pretty sure I want this....cant find it anywhere and I am worried that by restocking time, the RD600 DFI may be just around the corner...

I don't think it's a typo. They went from $260 (or so) up to $290 earlier today. It went out of stock and now it's miraculously back in stock at $339. They've lost me as a customer! Ewiz.com operates within a few miles of ZZF and they're asking $214 for the same mobo. Supply and demand is one thing, but this is a stupid, greedy move on their part and they've lost at least one customer for life.

i also tried vdimm 2.3V and vmch 1.75V....400x6, 400x7, 400x8 with ram 1/1 doesn't work....now i set bus 321x9 and ram 4/5 to 400mhz and works fine under orthos blend and OCCT :confused: ....the problem is the synchronous with ram 1/1...i tried with 1.2 official bios and 1.3 beta but is the same :confused:

therefore....
- 4/5 divisor bus 321*9 and ram 400mhz 5-5-5-12 works fine
- 1/1 divisor bus 400*6,7,8 ram 400mhz 5-5-5-12 doesn't work

some possible solution?

Join the cant run 400fsb orthos blend club

heres mine at 401fsb but fails orthos blend only in 3 secs:

high vcore, 2v mch dont change squat

im using the beta .13 bios and my e6600 does some crazy stuff:

set 8x400 and reboot this is what I get:

Agreed. I have some nice muskin redlines that I can't run 1:1 over 419 because my board wont boot with anything higher. I just hope it's worth the wait or I will undercut ZZF and sell mine for only $335.00:)

try to rum memtest for windows

I'm having the same problem with may mobo, i tryed everything and as long i only can have my system stable with only 360 FSB, everything higher i have errors in memtest for windows, but i can run my memory FSB 267 and memory @ 400 3-3-3-8 2,25v and dont have any problems. When i raise de FSB with the memory 1:1 i cant pass 360 and i allredy give 2.0v to chipset.

I hope with a new bios the problem can be resolved :confused:

I only post to say that you aren't teh only one with problems :(

2.0vmch might be too much with the stock cooling, and especially for sub 400FSB. That might be the reason why you get errors... too hot NB.

What FSB are you booting at?
Have you tried to go higher with uGuru?

any news or did someone find a fix for the power loss/uguru settings reset?

yeah, over uguru happen that reset the entire bios when turn off the psu...the problem is the battery, from multimeter signs only 3.06/3.07V is discharge....change the battery and would have to resolve :D

I increase the vmch from 1,5 up to 2.0 and have errors in memtest with FSB=370,380,381,400,401 i cried some combination of FSB, and vmch to.

I can boot at 400 of FSB but windows is not stable i can't run SPI 2x32M.
I tried to OC using the uguru from bios and disable uguru in windows and only use uguru in windows and nothing cant pass 360 and run memtest or 2x32MSPI for example.

I don't no what to try, i think this is a problem with the abit or the bios.

I have WC in the cpu and in the VGA with 2x360 radiators and put one fan directly to NB and my temperature in IDLE are 33 and the computer have been up all day and night.

I have had this board and the x6800 for about a month 1/2 now...

BIOS: 1.3 BETA

This OC is 10000% stable and can run blended orthos indefinitely<-!

The issues that I’ve been having are when I try and change the multi to ANYTHING other than 11 (default). When I set the multi lower or higher the OC goes down hill FAST! I have to loosen the OC quite a bit to even get the PC to POST. When I set things in BIOS on a diff multi to setting that I know should post it just won't! (Like x10 - 360 FSB - 2:3) It either won't post at all or it will fail Orthos. On x11 the cpu will be stable at 3.8GHz and the RAM at 500MHz plus!

Similar things happen when I try and run the ram at anything other than 2:3...

But I'm very lucky in that x11 and 2:3 give me a very good 24/7/365 OC. Plus I am running very good timings on the RAM.

It just bugs me knowing that something is wrong. I think it's a problem with the Core 2 Xtream on the AW9D-MAX boards. (I have tried all of the BIOS that have been made so far)

So far I LOVE this board! And I know the problems I'm having will be fixed in a new BIOS. So far 1.3 BETA offers no love for my x6800...
