Running 7 adn 6, level 6 seems to be as stabel as 7 at 5-5-5-15 500mhz 2T 266/667 strap
First post here. So I'll say hi and hit the ground running :D
So I have a question. How *hot* is too hot for a q6600 just for future reference? I have a q6600 G0 L804A768 but this puppy just loves volts.
I have it clocked to 3.3 with a vid of 1.425 but real temp shows the first two processors at 64-66C and the other two at 58-60C on full load with Prime.
Is this normal and I ask because I feel like the first two cores should be sitting at least 60-62C.
I'm thinking about reseating the heatsink. If that doesn't work I'll go with buying a tube of shin-etsu and another Xigmatek fan. I may also lap the processor but what do you guys think about lapping the Xigmatek .
Yeah, that kind of temp discrepancy is present on most quads. I wouldn't know anything about lapping though. I would say stay below 70C for 24/7 use, but I've gone to 83+C for quick benching.
Thank you guys for the reply.
I think I'm going to buy a lapping kit and maybe do the q6600. I think when the Xigmatek had the original fan on it blew more air from what I remember. I think it made a difference in temp but I guess I have more testing to do.
I'll see if the lap does any difference in temp and see *if* I do the lap on the Xigmatek if it'll drop temps also. I think I'm hesitant since there's a chunk cut off to make it flat and I don't want to let any liquid out of the heatpipes.
If that's the case I should of gone the watercooling route.
there are no vids of 1.425 I think you mean 1.325 like my L804.
Depending on the cooling you have. Sounds like air. If u need to lap for 5 more degree C all more power to you.
Hi guys. First post here :D
This is my Q6600.
Batch: L731B

The VID is 1.25V
With 1.10V from the BIOS, it is stable at 320x9 (2880MHz). Here is the validation

24/7 is 400x9 with 1.35V set from BIOS. All the other settings are set to their lowest (I don't remember at the moment, if you would like to know, please ask:p:) The mobo is ASUS P5K-E WiFi with 1002 BIOS
just got my Quad...my first quad. will this overclock good?
was able to run 362x9 at stock voltages (everything at stock actually & just tried to raise FSB until lock up :D)

You've a nice low VID, so it should clock well.
trade you :)
I have maybe a bit stupid quastion, but is it possible to "kill" Intel CPU within 3 month? I am getting very good deal on a used Intel CPU - but how safe is it?
Anytime I set my vcore higher than 1.425 it won't boot I'm running a DFI P35. Any ideas its rock stable at 3.65Ghz @ 1.36V
I got it to work 3.85ghz stable on water too bad my ambient is 30c :(
Mine is throttling once I take her over 3.97ghz -

Once I take it over 3.97ghz a Windows System process kicks in when I run OCCT or Prime95. Upping the voltages makes no difference. Temps are grand and PSU readings are too (I think), and I can't kill the process.
Any ideas why it's happening?
Your temps are fine. I get 68,67,65,65 with Xigmatek RS stock fan, with prime 95 small ftt ambient 22 C. I have run upto 84c on the hottest core for several minutes under stress testing without apparent harm. would recommend 70C or less under max stress for 24/7 use
Hello guys, just wanted to update the thread for those of you looking for good C2Q Q6600 processors. Just got mine and I'm happier than ever. It's an SLACR L736B249, manufactured 11/06/07 and it has VID: 1.2125 (C1E&SStep disabled). For now it runs super stable at 429x7 = 3000MHz @ 1.247V in Windows, but I'm looking for even lower voltage at this speed.

How do I find G0 stepping?
Right now I can find a q6600 for $214 at newegg
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017
How do I know what I am going to get????
All of the Q6600s being sold now are G0s. However, the new batches suck monkey balls...
You're going to have trouble going over 3.4GHz.
how far can a Q6600 be overclocked with a zalman fan or some sort of copper heatsink ?
