Could not agree more, I am still testing my new Opty, however, this chip is a much better overclocker than my FX57 :)Quote:

ok I am toying with the idea of watercooling and do not know the 1st thing about it..other than If I get a leak I am FUBAR...LOL...anyways what would be the BEST watercooling setup for me....I am not a complete bafoon...so if it is time consuming and complex that is fine. I have been reading about the Swiftech Apex and also Koolance...I want the BEST watercooling setup I can get my hands on what would it be?
Uhm
Cathar G7, some kind of 200$ Iwaki pump, BIX3 or something... three 120mm x 38mm high quality fans on a fan controller, all 1/2" ID and 3/4" OD tubing.
think im gonna pick up a 165 to add ot my collection once i get my watercooling setup. Im selling ym laptop so i shouldnt have a problem money wise. LOL! 3 processors, its a pricey hobby!
does that come in some sort of kit? keep in mind I am new to this..
...on the subject of w/cooling for Dual optys, somebody help please:)

this any good?

No, that's got a weak pump and a single 120mm fan radiator.
Go to the watercooling section, those guys will hook you up with the best. We'll try to keep this strictly on Dual core X2s :)
is the cpu block in this kit:

the same as this:

ok sorry...you seem to know what you are talking about should I start a new thread or just pm you?
Hey, you guys with naked CCB1E 0550VPMW's- how much did it lower your temps? I'm thinking about removing IHS with mine, but I'm concerned with mounting a big typhoon on it in a vertical position.
Right now, with 1x cpuburn and 1x prime95 full load is 41C in 25C ambient. I was 5 1/2 hrs prime stable (at least, I stopped it then) at 2772 with these volts but now only 1/2 hour *cries* I wonder why? I think even a 3C temp drop would get me another 30MHz or so. I figure I could try this before taking the plunge for watercooling
PS I've already removed an IHS of an X2 3800, while stoned out of my mind after getting my wisdom teeth out :D  so I don't think that will be a problem

Have you added software, tweaked software etc
LOL, if you'd call reinstalling windows tweaking software :p: I will go mess with some RAM timings now, one thing I have changed is drive strength/data strength to 3/3 from higher values. These seem stable though, Source after 3hrs hasn't crashed on me  I'll mess with it a bit, and then if I get some responses from naked 0550VPMW owners I'll remove IHS
well switch back the drive/data strength
Whats a good way to lower temperatures on the PMWIC and CHIPSET other than water cooling?

for Chipset 2 things:
1.http://www.techtastic.ca/reviews2/tw...ga-cooler.html
2.move video card to 2nd pci-e slot
here are temps right now:

Hanging that 800grams metalpiece with that leverage on that narrow mounting in a horisontal line, that is the perfect reciept for chipping the core.Quote:

I've now a XP-120 on my naked core, did a small tutorial on how I did it in a reasonable safe way.
The cooler is closer to the Mobo now so the PWMIC gets perfect cooling..no need for extra fan there:)

Are you using that Evercool unit with those blue fans? The fans look to big for the crab unit ...Quote:

I found these products. What do you think? Will these cool the PWMIC and CHIPSET

No problems, the cores seem really strong. However, my temps didnt improve much. I wouldnt do it again. Chip just runs hot in general

Received an Opteron 170 yesterday (stepping: CCBWE 0548 XPMW), removed the IHS today and installed it on an Asus A8R-MVP.
It just finished running the first stability test, Super PI (32M) @ 290x9 = 2610mhz with 1.3v, load temp was 35° (it's watercooled). Now it's time for Prime95...
Seems like a good chip, going to push it harder soon... unfortunatelly the A8R-MVP can't give it more than 1.45-1.5v, but I'll vmod it when I have time.
Damn, thanks guys, not what I wanted to hear though :( Meh
PS running the B T vertically with IHS on is perfectly safe :)
Go search for my posts w/ Big Typhoon or TTBT, shows how I did it. Just have to do a couple of things and be CAREFUL. I on the other hand call the XP-120 'the core nibbler' since it made nice shiny dust of the edge of my CPU. For best performance, you DO want to compensate for the torquing by compensating w/ support from above or below, whichever is easier.
Only thing about going IHSless is fact that core is slightly convex, so final mounting adjustments need to be done while looking @ temps in bios (or you can lap your core to flatten it like I do  :D )
Lastly, you should lap whichever sink you use (If you haven't already) since I've had both and they were BOTH notably concave, bad match for bare or IHS. In fact if you haven't done that, try it first, since you can usually drive a truck though the machine marks on the bases... (Gain back a degree or 2 there :D)
