do you think it would make a diff if i put these ( http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...Code=101220-12 )
in the intel port instead of ez-backup, i have them in raid 0
i get about 89-90avg in HD Tach

are there any differences you can see in the menus?
does is set tRFC to a different value so you can boot with higher fsb?
i have used 1305, 14something and 1602 and i still haven't seen any difference in the tRFC default TIGHT setting, that prohibits me from booting at >394mhz fsb (memory 1:1), however, once in windows i can use memset to set tRFC to 42, allowing fully STABLE operation (prime95 with large and small ffts) up to 417mhz so far with this chip and memory...see my sig
and if i don't use memset to set tRFC to 42, increasing the fsb in windows causes instability and crashes
here is my sig...as it didn't show up before
and by the way, thank you all in this thread who helped me fix this tRFC issue, allowing me to exceed 378x9, all the way to 400x9 stable!
Sorry I am not sure yet what is up with this new bios. Along with Christmas tree hunting it is also my 28th wedding anniversay today so I have been unavoidably detaned....... I did do a quick 1M super pi thisevening just to see if it would run it at this speed. then I went back to being the dutiful husband.
Hey gotta go get ................

i think i found that the read burst max throughput of the 320 was much less (like 90mb/s versus 165mb/s), but the average was actually about the same...53.5 vs. 55 mb/s (not as much difference)
so i suspect your 250 wd-ks's would have similar results as my 320 wd-ks's...although i don't know what the RAID performance is in each set of ports...you should be able to switch them and try, no?
but, there is no doubt that the raptor's average throughput was severely impacted by the ezraid port (as a single boot drive...even with no raid setup)
The EZ-Backup ports are on a port multiplier. They come off what would be SATA 2, so they share SATA 2's maximum theoretical 300MB/s. It is also my understanding that NCQ doesn't work on the EZ ports. I haven't used the EZ ports myself, but I have read reports from others that in real-world use they are substantially slower.Quote:

I am using the EZ ports for a raid 0 configuration with 2 WDa 160GB and I am very happy. I haven't done any benchmark speed comparisons so I can't give you numbers and I'm not about to reformat my system so I can put them on the ICH7R just to compare.
I have been using RAID 0 for some years now and it is the most usable configuration I've had to date. No drivers needed for DOS / windows setup / ghost / etc...
Most importantly, there are known issues with users running Adobe programs, such as Photoshop and Acrobat Professional because of the protection scheme the company uses. If you have your windoews installed on a raid array based on ICH7R (or ICH6R, ICH5R, ICH8R for that matter) these programs keep wanting to reactivate almost every time you run them. This is because they use sector 32 of the hard disk which is normaly not used for anything, to write activation data. With ICHxR raid, for some reason, they seem to think something fishy is going on and demand re-activation. Not so with the EZ Raid. Very usable!
There's no point comparing single drive speeds, it is obvious that a single drive will function faster on the ICH7R because the data only has to go through ICH7R while on the EZ Raid it has to go through the EZ Raid chip and then through the ICH7R. Comparissons have meaning only for raid arrays.
As for the 2 disks on one SATA2 port issue, I wish there were any 2 sata disks with >300MB/sec combined throughput so they could be impeded by this design.
Bottom line, there are always bound to be differences from one controller to the other and for different HDDs. Just because one test (or even all of them) were slower on one controller it doen's make it a crappy one. There are always other things that should be taken into account besides speed.
Photoshop/Imageready fine here on ICH7R Raid ;)Quote:

thanks in advance.
Im wondering is there anyone who is running 400+ fsb on air? It seems most people are using water who are able to run 400+ fsb or am I wrong?
I can confirm i have the same bug as you.
414x8= 3,312 Mhz
415x8= 6xx Mhz (Six Hundred!!!):slap: :stick: :slapass: :fact:
416x8= 3,328 Mhz
Nothing else changes on BIOS.
Please can someone else confirms this?
I'm on 1503 Bios.
I was running 9x400 on air stable and even higher for benching but now I´m on Vapochill LS an 9x435 stable :D .
BTW! 1707 lets me set memtimings manually again! I have not been able to do that since 1305 but dividers still don´t work :( It would be great to use my PC8500 mem to the max....
I have a serious problem with this board now. I can't get it to post any more, there's no beeps, all fans are spinning. I'll try to give a small history of what I've done with the board since I got it, and I hope someone can give me some advice to get it working again.
- When I first got the board, I used the stock intel heatsink as well as a Asus EAX1900XT card.
- I changed the stock heatsink for a Thermaltake Big Typhoon, and was very happy with the results.
- I bought a Powercolor X1950 crossfire edition to run crossfire. I started getting lots of problems here, I would get reboots, and the system would not run properly with two cards. With one of the two cards in, there where no problems.
- I installed a Thermalright HR-5 northbridge chipset heatsink. I had to cut off the heatpipe that was attatched to the original heatsink, and I used the Asus clip from the original heatsink. This was a very tight fit, but it did fit. After doing this, crossfire was working great. No more reboots.
- I replaced the Big Typhoon with a Thermalright Ultra-120, and fitted a fan on it. I wanted the Ultra-120 to point towards the fan at the back of the case, and this made it an even tighter fit with the HR-5. At first, I couldn't post, but I wiggled the HR-5 a bit a couple of times, and then I was able to post and everything was fine.
- But after a couple of days, I started getting some weird problems with my PS2 mouse. The mouse would freeze for a few seconds, or sometimes it would jump around all over the screen clicking by itself.
- I tought this might have something to do with the northbridge, so I took everything apart, cleaned off the old thermal paste, and replaced it with some fresh artic silver 5.
- After putting everything back together, the board wouldn't post. I wiggled the HR-5 around in different positions, as this had fixed the same problem before, but this didn't help this time. I tried removing and replacing thermal paste several times, but it didn't help.
That's about it. I'm starting to think I've screwed up the board somehow. If anyone has some advice to give me that would be great. Otherwise I think I'll just have to buy a new board :(
You can boot from pendrive in all bioses :confused:Quote:

I'm able to boot up @ 435x9 but windows crashes since this is a higly unstable Oc... I have all my volts maxed out... Anyone willing to send me a better clocking E6600 for free :p:

You need to wiggle around your nb cooler to get it to post? and you still continued to use it?? :slap: IMO that's a little bit stupid...Quote:

Asus has gotta give us more Ram Options since my Ram is capable of 1100+ on the Asus P5B and 1200+ with the BFG 680i

Its the CPU... I can't even get it stable @ 3.6 with 1.55v and I can boot my board all the way to 450... and this is the only board that has been able to keep my CPU @ 3.8+ for benchmarks...

Has Asus attempted to unlock the multiplier? I just flashed to the 1705 bios, and under cpu configuration i found this: "cpu multiplier status, unlocked. Maximum 20, minimum 6" or something along those lines.
Problem is it doesn't work. I tried 9x on my e6400 =/
it only shows 6 to 20 first time you boot with a new bios, second time it will show you the proper multipliers you can use. AFAIK the allendales have locked multipliers.
Ok, thanks Timmaah. I was so excited when i saw it though :p
