Most 170s have to jump an invisible wall to make it to 2800. I think his real vcore is somewhere around 1.52v (DFI overvolts by 10-30mV, despite SG readings). It does seam high, but then again, everyone here reports cpu-z/SG vcore so he's pretty much on par. Have you tried lower vcore or high speeds?Quote:

My 170 CCB1E 0550VPMW is 2.8Ghz dual prime stable at only 1.31V smartguardian reading 1.35V in DFI BIOS.
CPU temp under full load maxes back and forth in range of 39C-41C.
I think the heat problems I started having before when trying for 2.9Ghz were because everything was overvolted. This chip does not seem to need too many volts.
When I tried for 2.9Ghz the chip was set at 1.425V in BIOS, RAM was set at 2.8V. My guess is this was too much. Everything got really hot. After about an hour I got dual prime errors on core 1.
I just ordered two Delta brand 190cfm fans for the case. Hopefully they won't make me deaf, but with these and turning on the A/C in my apartment I hope to reach 3.0Ghz. (ambient temps no good in Texas)
Also when I found this one there was another 165 CCB1E 0550VPMW from the same batch with it so I bought both and it is still factory sealed. I think it may go on Ebay sice I am happy with this 170 :D
Ambient temp here in north of Sweden is -22.2 °C and a humidity of 67%...time for some airbenches...:D

Now with the core off I can boot into windows @ 3.15GHz on 1.5volts...prime fails after 5 min due to temps over 50's.

I've finally settled my chip at 289x9, 1.45v in BIOS, as don't plan to remove the IHS, and to get 2.7 it needs 1.55v, 52c 2xprime load, defenitely not for 24/7.
The good part is, my BH-5 can run with 180 divider, 260mhz 2-2-2-5-7-16 with 3.5v without problems (this summer I will drop the divider to 166 -> 237mhz if heat is a problem)

Hope I will receive it before the weekend, I need a new toy this weekend! Currently I don't have spare CPU som I've only got my laptop..
I will report here how my OPTY does..
at least by many reports around not just here...the 170 CBB1E 0550 VPMW have been hitting 2800 at lower vcore(1.4v bios settings in so many reports at AT, XS, Flickerdown)...Quote:

Other steppings I agree 100% 2800 was taking 1.5v+ in most cases

Barracuda..many have reported the chip does better sometimes on a lower vcore

Just recieved my opteron 165 ccbwe 0551 Wpmw i ohave only tried her under low noise water, and i was able to reach 2,7 ghz duel prime stabel.
Well then popped the IHS to se its true color and darn what a butie just gained me 100mhz, a iam doing 2,8 ghz duel prime stable now and i can easely bench at 2,9ghz now this is a bang for the buck
I was able to do this with 1.45v, but i put it to 1.48 and let it run overnight to show how stable it is :)

Get some watercooling mate. An easy kit that actually performs really well is the Swiftech Apex, see if you can get it over in Sweden.
BTW aren't your temps better? You did remove the IHS. Mine is aching for IHS removed, i can smell 3.1+ Ghz prime stable after that ;)
I got both better stability and lower temps when removing the IHS...only thing I chipped off one of those capacitors...did look that up though..they are for preventing electromagnetic influence...no big deal.Quote:
