If you are going water cooling theres no point in not getting the best which is DangerDen
On the other hand, this is one of the best air coolers around - http://www.tuniq.com.tw/Cooler%20Info/Tower-120.htm
I'm sorry but Storm > anything Danger Den. What do they have... TDX and RBX...
Storm is the best.
But have a look at that Alphacool Nexxxus Xp which has the next lowest delta t for less than the price of its competitors.
Then again look at my sig,im biased.Albeit for very good reasons :)

Gonna order that and ask if they can grab that evercool crabcooler somthing, must have on the pwmic if above 3GHz.
How about a chipcooler, kinda overkill..aint it?
BTW, the XP-120 is on now...did have to cut some plastic, cut a piece of the alu-coolsink where the heatpipes goes.
I have maybe 2C higher idle and load, but now I can use the orange slots..the yellow slots gave me all kinda trouble on dividers if dual.
I have maybe 1mm space between the cooler and the inner stick, guess I wont be changing that for a while..
...did worry there for a moment if the memcontroller had packed and gone, tired of the abuse...but all is working fine:p:
Thanks, that is a sure bookmark..:)Quote:

Why would this happen? Not enough volts? Too hot? I pointed a fan towards the PWM IC area but apparently it is not working too well...

Before this dual prime session I ran 3dmark05 and got 12,173 :D
should I be worried about the full load temps?
The "magic" number to stay under is 44-45C under load, you will have to find the combo of voltage and cooling to get the right temps...very important.Quote:

You need to cool the PWMIC as well...not over 50C...at least I have seen a better stability then.
you are absolutely right! :clap:Quote:

2.84GHz is the max. stable frequency under default, so I lowering it a bit to 2.8GHz for daily usage.:woot:
that is a very sweet OC for a 165'er, congrats mate:toast:Quote:

Very nice and more counts that you reached it on Aircooling.
Congrats.
Sure! I am quite happy about that. :p:Quote:

More one thing, my friend have a 3000+@2950mhz with machgt2, in my system i can´t go up 2700mhz.. the cpu temps with the both direct die´s is about the same.. someone can help me?? thkx
You thikn shoving1.68-1.71v through my CPU for about an hour will do any harm? (for benchmarking)
Temps will probably skyrocket even with water and I doubt you'll get much gain. Also always remember that DFI boards overvolt ~.03v on load despite what CPU-Z says. I tested with a DMM and it's always exactly right (within 1-3mv) on idle and it jumps 30mv on load
That said, it probably won't do any harm as long as you don't go over ~60C
My Opteron 165 CCBWE 0530TPMW with removed IHS and lapped Freezer 64 Pro can't do more than 2.55GHz without lots of extra voltage. This speed alone takes 1.45v. Core 0 seems pretty terrible whereas Core 1 has quite the headroom.
I've discovered that 2.60GHz is outside of this thing's realm without 1.55v or so. 2.55GHz however is prime stable for 12 hours (it never errored) at 1.45v! 2.60 will error within 15 minutes. Crazyness. Tried just about every combination of BIOS settings and underclocking of the rest of the system. No go.
I have noticed that it appears the core itself is convex and that an area around the center is in direct contact while the outer parts of the die are not in as good of contact. I actually started to lap the core last night but stopped because I was going to have a friggin heart attack rubbing sand paper over that core. Heart pounding core sanding is too much for me lol.
I ought to pull the heatsink off and see if the few mins of lapping I did do helped at all with contact. Doesn't really matter though cuz it's not clocking any higher.
How much can you take off the top of the core BTW??
Ive got access to surface grinders at work,i might give it a go. :D
why risk it?Quote:

Same here with the Amd retail heatpipe and fan. I got another UPMW cpu here but this one has a much lower batch number of #0069. I am not sure what board I should get with it ... any ideas?Quote:

Have you tried lowering the MEMCLOCK Freq to 1 / 2 and see how far the cpu can really go?
got me a new Opteron 170 today:
CCB1E 0550VPMW
1387678L50358
currently at 1.5V(bios)1.456V(windows) 2.8Ghz
33C idle
48C load
this is using a XP90 w/panaflo fan
**I do have a SI120 HSF but metal brackets that hold fan down are rattling so back to XP90
Hmm..that is alot more vcore than most have reported on the 170 0550 VPMW 678L50xx...did you get this from Dave@Flickerdown???Quote:
