Tried my 170 with cold air, -10c ambient. The chip is seriously coldbugged, with -5c on the radiator i can bench at 3,2ghz but this time it even freezed at 3ghz.:( Looks like i can forget about trying DI.:)

Hmm, maybe I should have a go at that as well...gonna take out mobo anyway for measuring and such.Quote:

At this moment we have -12.3 °C here with a humidity of 65 %...will that be dangerous, for condensing I mean?..
When you´re using air, you shouldn´t worry about anything, i used water and still no condensation, maybe because my room was pretty cold as well. Just try and if it keeps freezing, you´ll know.;)
Someone's starved for attention :stick:Quote:

Or I'll have to buy a new one
Good Luck! ;)Quote:

Just got my 0550 VPMW in today =) going to try it out tonight.
Where did you get it?Quote:

dang, you guys are lucky with your weather. Its hitting 80F in Texas already. Kinda hard to keep a room cool with hot humid air outside the window...
Here I am again littering the thread with meaningless miniprimes:

:p:
..thinking of trying a short primer on high volts, what is safe for a 1.3v chip? ...1.55?
WTF :slobber: I am going to eat your chip :banana:
My chip is being teh gay and failing prime in 5mins at 2808 1.45v, where it did at least 2hrs before :stick:
Well, I have confirmed the coldbug on the 170 CCB1E 0550 VPMW ...acting all weird on me not posting and missing files and such when under 5 degrees...bad baad coldbug.
Water is the way to go:)
Coldbug at 5C? Wow, that's extreme! Guess anything lower should go for CCBWE 0550UPMW.Quote:

So I finally got all my gear and built my first system.
I am right now at 2400Mhz on the 170 with stock voltage 1.31V reported in Smartguardian (set on auto in BIOS), I have been stable in winXP for about three hours at that frequency.
Here is where I need some advice: I can run dual prime stable for about 20 minutes with zero errors and the CPU gets to about 42-43C maximum which I believe is safe, however I have manually stopped the torture test because the "PWM IC" temp goes to 50C and the number turns red.
What is the "PWM IC"?? What is an absolutley safe temperature range for the "PWM IC"? Do I need to be stopping this when the number turns red?
At idle 2400mhz the CPU is 32C, and the chipset is always 45C no matter what I have done.
thanks! I will share some screencaps once I get some better results. (remember this is my first time to build a system :) )
Oh yeah, I am in Texas and ambient temps are always hot here!
Hey
PWMIC is the power regulation on NF4 motherboards. Put an 80mm fan over the 3 aluminum mosfets near teh CPU socket to keep PWMIC temps down, although it should be able to get very hot without affecting anything.
Your temps look fine, crank it up man ;).
Hey Absolute, your name is in blue, are you sad or something? :stick: :D
BTW I run my PWMIC at 60c when priming, so no problem. ceevee crank more volts, that chip can do a lot more!
XIPs names were changed to blue.
Yeah supposedly PWMIC can take a beating, like 90c or something, maybe more? I dont care what it's rated for, i put an 80 over it anyway, i don't like to see ANY number over 50. Even if it can function hot, i'd rather keep it cool, just me.
Xip???
Xtremely Important People? :D
thanks all for the advice. I am going to go buy another small fan and will report back soon...
OK so I went and got an 80mm and installed it. But now I am running into problems taking it higher than 2.4ghz.
So my RAM is supposedly guaranteed for "2.5-4-4-8 2T" at 300mhz by G.Skill, so I set it to these timings in the BIOS and increased voltage to 2.8V DRAM. RAM is on a 1:1 FSB divider.
Then I set FSB to 270, (so RAM is 270mhz, CPU 2700mhz) cpu to 1.425V, chipset to 1.6V and booted into windows no problem, but after about 1 minute of 3Dmark05 the computer just shut itself off instantly. (no errors, no blue screen, just instant power off)
So now I have set back to all auto timing settings in the BIOS for the RAM, set FSB back down to 240 (so RAM is 240mhz, cpu 2400mhz).
I left the RAM at 2.8V and set the CPU down to 1.375V, and moved the chipset back to 1.5V. However I seem to have introduced some sort of stability problem into the system because it is still randomly doing an instant power off even though I reduced the FSB :( . (no blue screen, no error)
this is my second attempt to write thsi post, the first time the system shut off.
I have been monitoring my temps the whole time in both smartguardian and the BIOS and there is absolutley not a heat issue that I can see at any time.
Did I break something? Any suggestions? Thanks for your patience as this is my first time to build a PC :)
Did you input the ram timings correctly?
2.5-4-4-8 =
CAS TRCD TRC TRAS respectively
So I am back on my old P4 right now, as the new rig has become completely unstable on any setting ( I even restored the defaults on the motherboard so everything was stock frquency)
Before I got through 3Dmark05 (11,483 score) at 2400, and dual primed for about 30 minutes no problems.
However now the machine boots into windows or the BIOS no problems (at stock) however it does this "instant off" thing after about five minutes from when windows launches.
Before this is what I did with the RAM
CPC = disable
tCL = 2.5
tRCD = 4
tRAS = 8
tRP = 4
everything else I put on "auto" there were a lot of other RAM settings.
So at this point I will be happy if I can just get stability back on the new rig!
thanks guys for the help with this, and I was starting to think this was going to be easy....
Ok ceevee, I'll try to help you
just remount your cpu cooler with new silicon grease,
very thin layer,
read through the instructions for the cooler,
have you changed your backplate?
it sounds like you dont have enough mounting preassure or
enough contact.
