Ok guys whats up with bios temps, and everest temps ? are the bios temps for nb, sb way off, why so different from what everest says ? im talking 8c difference between the 2, how do you know which is correct? everst temps dont seem accurate to me :shrug:
My NB and SB temps are significantly lower in BIOS than what EVEREST reports too.
I just take EVEREST as accurate, as those are the highest.
I was playing far cry 2 for 1.5 hours now, and both screens just went black. No bsod, just went black.
NB was 1.5v, temps were hitting 58 degrees celsius. sometimes flashed to 59 but was fairly constant at 58.
VDIMM is 1.74 and has passed 8 passes memtest.
Anyone have ANY idea?

OK, to sort this out, I lowered RAM down to stock 1333, with 2T and leaving FSB @ 1600.
I can't get it stable with 4 modules, so I thought, lower to 1333 to sort out NB issues.
What do you know, it froze on boot every time. I upped Nb to 1.5v, which should be enough. Still froze on boot.
So I started upping NG GTL to +10,+20,+30. It reached desktop but froze instantly.
I read that negative GTL might help, so I set to -02, it got further to desktop before freezing.
So I set it to -10mv, and brilliant! It booted up fine and I got to here. But as I was typing this, my 2nd GPU started spinning like crazy (fan on 100%). I reset the pc quickly, displays didn't come on. So I powered off, cleared CMOS, and all is well again. But on stock settings for the moment.
Something very very odd is happening.
EDIT - How do you test to see if the problem is NB or RAM?
Nb Voltage of 1.48v made things better.
But I was gaming for 2 hours, and then my displays both went black, and the pc restarted. Why did that happen usually? Overheating?
I think your overheating Joe, i cant think of anything else, the stock cooling i told you sucks really bad on this board.
Well yeah, temperature HAS to be the issue, as everything works fine until heat builds up I suppose.
NB stays at 55. I guess MOFSETS might be heating up?
Yeah, and probally nb, i really cant think why else would blackout like that. Are you still running a extra fan over nb ? try gaiming with a fan on nb, see if that will stop it, then you know thats the issue.
I had a 40mm fan, but to be honest, that didn't move any air at all.
I've invested in an antec spotcool, should be with me tuesday. I'm running it at 1333 mhz fsb and RAM, at the moment, and that only needs 1.32 NB voltage. All good - I think.
Well what u guys think of my nb cooling, works really well, i modded the sb to. Kinda sucks i have to sell my system, lost my job last week.

I was thinking of modding mine too, but warranty would be voided. I am going to blow the hell out of it with a spotcool tomorrow. I'll post back here with my results.
The trouble is, I have a Noctua UH12P heatsink and fan and they cover the NB a bit, so I can't get much airflow in there. With a spotcool I might place it at an angle in there with it on 100% speed it should cool it down.
It dont void warranty, you just tell asus you have watercooling blocks, you dont have to send those with rma:up:

Yeah sucks man, i will find something, all your guys help was great, couldnt have gotten to where i am without you. So see if i can pickup a few bucks for my system, money is running out, but when i do bounce back its i7 for sure.

I am going to buy a kit of 1600mhz 2x 2gb corsair RAM soon. As running 4 modules limits my mem speeds down to 1066.
At the same time I am going to re-apply new thermal compound (mx-2) to heatspreaders on this board.
I have dialled everything down to 1333 fsb and 1066 ram, with only 1.32 NB, and temps max out at 55 during gaming.
I've read through the thread on the ASUS forum regarding re-application of the thermal paste.
Anything I should know before I attempt it? Anyone had trouble getting it off etc?

What did you use on your SB and voltage regulators?
The xigmatek won't fit on my board, as I've got HUGE Noctua cpu heatsink, that partially covers the NB area, which isn't a help to temps.
Yeah you have to cut the heat pipes from mosfets to the nb, is easy, there not solid, i used a enzotech sfn-1 sb cooler.
Finally sold my setup:clap: off the forum, thats a relief. Well good luck guys, and i will still be around as long as my afford my internet connection.
Don't think I'll be sawing the heatpipe assembly. I might give re-applying the TIM a go. As stock 1.3v on NB is yielding me 54 degrees celsius. Which to be honest is pants.
I'm currently having to run my RAM at 1066, due to the RMA'd kit I got back from Corsair being a slightly different revision to the other one, and both kits dislike each other at higher bandwidths. Which is a pity, as the old kits together could run 1600.
I'll save up for a 1600 2gb x2 kit, and at the same time lap this cpu and re-apply TIM on the mofsets and nb/ sb heatpipe assembly. And then sort this setup out good and proper!
