Probably not. My 165 which I got on thursday is a week 0541, it OCs to 2.5GHz stable with 1.525v. Not as good an overclock as some of you other guys, but its better than my 3700+ sandy did, I could only OC it to 2.7GHz from 2.2 stock, and this 165 goes from 1.8 to 2.5. A 700MHz OC vs. a 500MHz oc.Quote:

Can any of you post what steppings are coming from Newegg?
my opty 170...is doing dual prime at 2.6 ..havent tried further yet.
I've got an Opteron 170 coming from Newegg, should be here early next week. However, I was gonna pop that baby into my new SLI-DR eXpert board, coming early next week too, but with all the procs getting toasted on that board I'm starting to get leary.
If all goes well, then next week I'll be OCing and comparing the 3500+, Opteron 146, and Opteron 170 with 1GB Ballistix Tracer and 1GB Geil One (see which clocks better) on the eXpert board. Then, whichever sucks most, I'll probably sell!
If that eXpert board doesn't kill my procs, expect a long comparison thread in a week or so.

Hi all. I have a request for anyone using a Dual Core that has a multimeter. I noticed that while CPUZ reported my Vcore as 1.552V, my actual idle Vcore meaured by a DMM was 1.609V. Disturbingly, I found that it jumped to 1.659V under load! This is nearly .11V greater than reported by software monitoring programs! We know these DFI boards underreport voltages in Windows, but this discrepency approaches dangerous levels.
If anyone could check their idle/load Vcore's (as well as reporting VID and VID multiplier from BIOS), I would be extremely appreciative. We need to find out if this is isolated to my rig or is endemic to Dual Cores generally.

holy crap, that voltage error really scares me. maybe its time for that new asus with the 8-phase power... any way, whats my best bet now? 165 from excalibur or 170 from mwave? is the 165 really discontinued?

I am still waiting for more users to confirm that this problem is not isolated to just my rig. However, initial reports support the theory that Opterons with high TDP's (like Dual Cores at 110W, 152/154 at 104W, and quite possibly 148/150 at 85.3W) will experience a .05V jump in Vcore under load that will not be reported by MBM, CPUZ, SpeedFan, or even OCCT (which uses one of the aforementioned for its monitoring).Quote:

Received my 165 OPTY yesterday, I am pretty n00by compared too some of you guys when it comes to OC'ing.
Currently 306x9 on my CPU with 1.55V put in bios, says 1.504V in CPU-Z.
Have run dual SuperPi 32MB without any problem. Nothing over 2.75Ghz is stable, mostly I get bluescreens before i come into windows at 2.85GHz and higher. I've read that it's somewhat tricky too OC the OPTY's with memory settings. I also had to mount a 120mm fan over the PWMIC area due to extreme heat, lol, highesst measured was 68 degrees Celsius! :banana:
Can someone please list a suggestion to memory settings in bios for my system? I would really appreciate it!

i have an ultra-d, i don't know about getting an opteron anymore until i have more info on this issue. is my x2 3800 @ 2.6 1.52v (cpu-z, in bios its 1.55) affected by this? i really i wish i had that 8-phase asus32x right about now.Quote:

I can run it at 3.13Ghz @ 1.67v (however it's too hot to bench or anything...I can't afford better cooling, so I'm sticking with what I got...) I'm happy I hit the 3Ghz mark though on AIR :)
i would back off that voltage for now, at least until we know more about the dfi nf4 overvolting situation. i'm getting an asus a8n32-sli as soon as they go down in price a little.
