Quite interesting case.. so you have a OEM-card, any idea about manufacturer, any codes, logos in heatsink etc (figure would be great :D). I wonder whether your card is one of the first LE-cards, that were sold as part of OEM-computers i.e were not sold seperately.

Another point is those caps: "4 2 470 6E" which should (???) be OK. I am been wondering for a long time WHY those caps can be OK, maybe they fail also.. (but it takes more time)

Could you describe your crash more accurately i.e. 'when having BS my goes immediately blank, but CPU fan is still spinning and only way to get PC working again is to give a hard reset'

The card i got with my system originally was an OEM 6800 LE. it not only black screened like the cards that replaced it, but actually shorted the system, making it in operable until the card was actually removed.

i didnt classify it as BS because it shorted the system and turned it off, whereas the others merely cut off the image. they may be linked though.

anyway, awaiting repair....

Very interesting, indeed: OEM 6800le seems to have extra problems in addition to BS. You mean that in your case all PC activity was stop i.e. processor fan ? Do you remember in what cases (like while 3d-gaming etc.) your computer was shut down ?

It would be nice if somebody knows the manufacturer of those OEM 6800LE-cards ;)

No, it wasnt like BS for two reasons.

1/ My PC was doing nothing at the time, just idling. and i hadnt been playing games on it that day.

2/ it switched my pc off completely. dead as a dodo. would not switch back on at all. had to remove the graphics card to get it to switch on.

the bastards have LOST MY PC!!!!!

OK. No BS definately, but something extremely wierd happened = totally dead (crap) card.

About your computer, they have LOST it ???? It sounds unbelivable in normal case, but maybe normal *service* when considering all issues you have reported about *that* company.

yes i think this is the case. As for any codes.....in one corner it has lr2992 pcb REV: A the heat sink just has the company name on and logo...on the other side it says assy rev b2. Also the sticker says Geforce 6800LE 128mb w/tv/dvi and 68001E00-4AC-00DB

hmmm well i get bs less then crashs where the card seems to crash with the screen on but no think happens....once i think it did run cs..... as i started playing cs a few weeks back thinking.....my 6600gt was in but then i looked up and my 6600gt was on the shelf... :P but thats the only time it has ever really worked all the other times anything other than windows.....it crashs though freezing of the screen and a little bit of process over an hour...seems as if it laggs really really badly and bs. with both types of crashs the fan still spins etc......with the non bs in some cases u can manage to get back to windows and end the program/game u were trying to run.

i know this is weired :P

Mole, if you forget the fact that you seem to have an OEM card then you had exactly the same problem as me.

Windows was fine, (well, it black screened on it now and again), but as soon as you went into a 3D game (even one as old as Medal of Honor Allied Assault Spearhead), your screen went black(power save mode) and there was nothing you could do to get your computer to respond. In order to get your screen back on you had to switch the computer off, then back on again. If, when the black screen occurred, there was a sound playing, then the sound should loop over and over until you switch your pc off.

Don't know if this is relevent, but you were asking about CPU fans etc Sika. In this case, the situation I'm talking about, which Mole seems to have, everything stays on.

Mole, you say you cannot RMA the card but, if what happens in your/your friend's computer then this is not a problem!

Simply look at Sika's "Ultimate capacitor modification". You can get capacitor's from many online retailers - but if you can't find any and live in the UK then I can give you a good site. Simply follow the guide as Sika said. It easy. Just push the capacitor wire thingies through the 2 holes in your video card and it works! Hope this helped.

The capacitor mod is very easy to perform as KoR_Wraith already said. If you are going to do it buy a GOOD quality capacitor: you can found detailed specs for capacitor in the document.

Some news about my Gainward.... I was about to bring it to RMA, but I wanted to test it on nother computer before. that's what I did yesterday on a computer that has almost the same hardware as I have, and, it didn't BS'ed anymore... I'm a bit, angry.... But I think my problem is here cause I didnt format C:\ since more than 2 years (stupid I know). Now I'm cleaning all and about to format... hoping it gonna work then...

Many things in addition to 'dirty' windows affect on how EASILY you get BS e.g:

- win98/win2k/winxp (win98 = lowest propability to get BS)
- Power supply (GOOD power = lowest propability to get BS)
- vsync !!! (on = low/very low propability to get BS)
- Speed of MB and memories (slow machine = lower propability to get BS)

Could you give specs of those computers ?

i can not overclock my memory at more than 5 MHz ( it was the MSI 6800LE TD128 - Rev. 1 ) bu it works fine now at standard speed 300 GPU 700 MEM.

I should turn off my overclocking thinkings :D or can there be done anything... ? f u c k off english ^^

Could you overclock more that 5 Mhz before ? Do you mean with 'works fine at 300' that you have problems like BS when OC'ing even a little bit ?

About caps. I was asking labels of those green caps (look my avatar) e.g "4 3 470 6E", but not so important since you have a well known BS-card i.e. MSI ver 1 (= I am quite sure you have labels "4 3 470 6E")

I reinstalled Win XP and, trying DirectX 8 or 9.0 or 9.0a, b or c, it continued to BS. My caps are 43 470 6E.... All is clear now, I'm unlucky :'( lol...

i have the same card like in figure 7....
it had BS so i underclocked the mem to 500 MHz, then i found ur thread and made the
enhanced capaciator mod because zadahs didnt functure....
so now it works fine at standard settings, but if i overclock BS is back. Well i mustn´t overclock but i like to do it :-)
Before i couldn´t overclock because of bs, only underclock ;-)
the label i have to read out this evening if i am back at home... so long, cya!!!

Thisat indicates your card is running very 'near' BS all the time, since usually (after cap modding) it is possible to OC much more, say > 800 MHz. I do not want to be pessimistic, when time goes on BS can occur easily having such a low margin. I hope that will NOT happen, but in such case changing the capacitors could help to remove BS again.

Cards having "4 3 470 6E"-caps seems to be the worst of all in many aspects:

- BS immediately (or sooner than with others)
- Cap modding has to be perform carefully (good quality component, 'enhanced cap mod') to remove BS (in early thread of this BS-feature, some/many users were complining that TP1-modding does not help)
- No OC margin at all

It would be VERY NICE if someone having "4 3 470 6E"-caps is ready to change those caps and provide those me so I could characterize electrical parameters. I still have some replacement caps left, 'money2' are you interesting (see document and send private message)?

I have 4 6 470 6E... I guess those aren't bad then...
