I just bought the Asus A7N8X and was wondering (maybe you'll have the answer Sys since you got a wicked setup going) wondering if the Asus board is capable of FSB above 211?? I have a feeling that someway, be it a new bios, or a new setFSB program, we'll get past 211mhz fsb. The chipset should handle more.
As for the heatsink, it's just a piece of thermal tape underneath, it's very easy to come off... no freezing/heating necessary.
1001D bios! I dunno what is changed or if it's better than 1001E but I just found that, it says it was there 2 days ago but I didn't see it then.

i've been playing around with multis for few hours. guess what, at first i thought that when i choose 13x multi it boots at 7x or 7.5x since cpu was @ ~950mhz or something. however, i let it boot to windowes and check with cpu z /wpcpuid... instead of 13x166, cpu z reported 13x66:eek: so i kept on cranking up multi / fsb , fo rexample : 13x200, it booted at 13x100, 14x211, it booted at 14x111, WTF? when i chose 15x207, it booted happily again, but froze in BIOS for good. now, looks like the mobo is dead. i tried everything : clearing cmos, video swaps etc etc. any suggestions, mate? btw, last L3 bridge was linked. all multis 12.5x and lower worked fine...
Youch! That's rather odd :\ Not good either. Hmmm. You might wanna try un-linking the 5th L3. That might fix it. I'm not sure bout the 2400+ in the A7N8X. I have only used the 2600+ in it and didn't touch the 5th L3.

Hey sys if that works this might just be my next board :)
If your CPU comes with a default mult of 12.5 or Lower (Only tbreads with that are the XP2600/333 and XP1700, 1800's) then it will work. If your tbread has a default mult of 13X or more, you need to connect the one last L3 bridge , that will unlock the 5-12.5 Mults, but you will lose your default high Mult. There you go !
EDIT : Forgot to mention the FSB. Right now it seems to be a luck of the draw that decides if you can stably run 200FSB , I can do it with my GeForce 2 , but with my Radeon 9700 Pro, not one over 196 is stable. and I can forget about 204-207-211, even while there are other people that can BENCH at those speeds, I cant even boot up ! :(

Back to the cold boot:
The system runs like a dream at current clocks, but won't boot when i turn on power, but i have to restart with default clocks, higher clocks from bios again and it works...
dj: i have the same problem with my r9700 and 196 fsb. It is my max "stable" fsb but it still craps out occasionaly. I just stick to 194 wich sux as i don't think i'm cpu limited but i already maxxed out the multiplier at 12.5. How can a radeon be the problem. I also tried raising the agp speed and my sys wouldn't boot.
anyone tried the epox board yet?
let me know about /6 dividers ergo pci agp lock also let me know about 200 fsb stable?

how are you cooling the cpu, could it be that if you are using extreme measures that they dont get enough time to cool down the CPU when it wants to boot up at the extreme clock ? Could having the reset button pressed down for a few seconds help your problem ? Just throwing out ideas bro ! :)

I attempted boot with -10c on the coldplate (as well as room temp) and no go. The proc is not getting any juice as the pelt dramatically drops the temps when i turn the system on. Someone mentioned that it might be a fubered bios chip. If anyone knows were to get new ones let me know. :pQuote:

It sucked for me... I couldn't O/C to 2Ghz w/ 200FSB. It either didn't boot up or didn't o/c at all. It stayed at default speed.
From what I have read on other forums, I am going to give this BIOS a miss.
Yeah it doesn't look very good. I think I'll just keep the 1001E. That's what I'm usin now.
I still use the 1001C, seems to work, just cant really fire on the memory. 200mhz with pumped up settings is all. But the processor is still locked, and i'm only runnin 150FSB. SIS mem bandwidth sux too: 2305/2156.
Don't know what 1001G is doing but it ain't doing it right
I have an unlocked xp2400 and with the G bios it can't for the life of it select the right multpliers so i flashed back to 1001E.
These Asus engineers are morons... I really wish I could get in contact w/ the guys who write this stuff, b/c imo so far, I see no change from the bios revs to worse change. :mad:
yepperooo, i have gone all the way back to C. E, i couldnt see a change, but i heard it only updated sata, which i am not using for a month or so. G, well, funky multi made me too leary. my locked 2800 will only use auto multipliers (scared to botch the unlock still) and it will not let me change from 6.5. i boot fine and @185 it reads ok, but if the bios has no clue, i surely have no clue. so safe bet was to ride on back to C, buggy or not, it seems the best 4 me right now. i simply wish all the hype about the majikunlockingdreambios would materialize so i could get a stable fsb above 185. till then, im --> :smileysex

Will this mod allow me to reach the 5-12.5 mult range with a Thor-B if what you say is true? I say this b/c I read this "Using a factory locked Athlon XP 2400+ processor, all we had to do was simply lower the CPU multiplier down to 8X and increase the FSB as high as we possibly could without jeopardizing stability and without increasing voltages" at http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.html?i=1759&p=9
