I recently got a Fortron 530 from Newegg. As soon as I got it I opened her up and played with the pots. Guess I turned them a little too high...cuz when I attempted to fire the system up it would start but shut off a second later (must've been the over voltage protection :confused: ) . At first I thought I got a dud but I opened it back up and turned the pots down a little and tried again...this time system booted fine....phew. Rails were great too...12.3, 5.2 and 3.4. Great PSU for the money...

I totally agree. I was going to add that into my post! I had stopped buying from neweeg cause of the taxes, but when looking for this PSU no one else had it cheaper. Plus I wanted it quick so the extra few dollars wasn't to bad this time. Otherwise I go to zipzoomfly. they always have that free 2 day and I don't pay taxes. It's a shame too as I love newegg!

So anyway, I got my PSU hooked up tonight. It is lookin pretty good. Didn't need to really tweak the rails at all, but I did anyway. :p: I do love how quiet this thing is. When I had it open to tweak the pots I couldn't even hear the fans. I have a damn quiet PC now!

While I'm not a fan of the 120mm bottom fan, that is indeed
the 350w model many prefer.

hm that's not the cheapest i've seen it: go here - 47 euros plus the shop got good ratings at geizhals.at/deutschland
dunno if they ship cross-europe, but that's easy to check (just one email away) :).

but i still want the 530w over here :D

hey just wondering what you guy's have your rails set to, and how high is safe for the +3.3?

Mine are set at +3.38, +5.2 and +12.35

what is the percantage of safety on the rails again?

iirc, you can use 3.6V all the time (if you need it). That's how mine are set, even if the vdimm isn't working on my NF7.

so I am going to raise it to above +3.4 then. Right now with this 3.2C I don't need much more then the 3.2V vdimm I am currently using. That is till I do the droop mod on this P4C800-E and get it over 240fsb. My 2x512 sets need some volts to hit the same fsb and tight timings as my 2x256 set's do .

One thing I did notice with the +3.3v is that the higher you set it the more the rail fluctuates. Does that mean it's having a hard time running at that voltage?

Mine is rock solid at 3.62. Never moves a spot during heavy load. I think there is a lot more that can be the cause though. bad ground in the building etc, more EMI, etc. Impossible to pin-point if it is the psu's, mainboards or another parts fault.

Are there better places to measure the voltage of the +3.3v, +5v and +12v lines other than the 20-pin molex plug? My DMM is having a hard time measuring the plug.

i have tweaked it to

3.3V Line is 3.60V in Bios but 3.82 with DMM
12.00 Line is 12.09 in Bios but 12.49 with DMM
5.00 Line is 5.08 in Bios but 5.28 with DMM

are these values ok or are they too high??

Nm my last post, I managed.
Got my PSU adjusted perfectly at

+3.5v
+12.21v
+5.14v

Measured on my Electro-Tek DMM with PSU connected to a Slot 370 board with a P3 550.

hehe, can't wait to install this beauty :D

true. understand I don't mean it fluctuates a lot, just more whent he volts are raised. Maybe .03-.04 over +3.4 while it is more like .01 at +3.3-+3.36

You might try the six pin "P2" connector. Many PSU have them
but they are only used for server type boards I think.
There you can measure the +5v and +3.3v. For the +12v you can
measure at the 4pin molex.

Actually, the ATX standard allows a plus/minus 5% variance
on the +12, +5v and +3.3v rails. With short instances of
10% on the +12v.

plus/minus 5% = :
+12v = 11.400 - 12.600
+5v = 4.750 - 5.250
+3.3v = 3.135 - 3.465


In my opinion, you should have them close to the ATX spec.
12.000v ... 5.000v ... 3.300v ... etc ...
Some poster have mentioned they observe increased instability
with the rails adjusted high rather than low.
If you have one rail too far out above spec it can in crease the
draw on others.
That all depends upon how the Power Unit's rails are structured
of course. Some PSU, like these 530w Fortron draw the
12v and 5v power from the same source.
Others like the Antec True Control have four completely
independent rails.

Just my two cents. :D

I too am getting different voltages in BIOS/MBM5 than I am with my DMM.

DMM:
+3.5
+5.14
+12.21

BIOS:
+3.4
+5.0
+11.98

I don't know which one to believe. I'd like to think the DMM is more accurate than the BIOS, but that would be a guess.

The DIMM is much more accurate than the bios.

I love my 530w, when I first got it mbm5 and winbond both reported low 12.0v and +5 volt rails, I checked with a voltmemter and found them right on .
