If this is all Nvidia's got it's not much. This is basically what GTX 480 should've been, and hardly worth naming it to GTX 580.
Ultimately though what matters to me is that either company will drop prices due to competition. I'm just concerned that if GTX 580 doesn't manage to compete against 6900 series, Nvidia will have a hard time dropping its price due to chip size. Of course if rumors are true, that Cayman is the biggest AMD chip yet, it might also be quite expensive to manufacture.

64 TMU seems fail to me, strong doubt about this competing with Cayman. Slightly faster clocks and 512 vs 480 is very small improvement for what they call 580, if true.

772*1.0567(difference 512 shaders made according to expreview) = 815mhz equivalent with maybe a few percent better because of memory speed.
The only thing that could save this from being a flop if they can get power consumption down and a miracle driver comes.
If the leaked specs are true, then OUCH nVidia. :mad: Even after GF104 success, you can't expand this potential little performer for highend segment. :rolleyes:
Perhaps GF100 is such a mess and they are really concentrating for 28 nm process round, that investing too much resources on a lost cause is deemed futile. Fudo's still evangelizing the chip, if those specs comes to fruitition, this will be another mud in your face moment yet again. Some people just never learn, but $$$ looks good in your bank account for sure. :shakes:
Extrapolating from GF100 512 SP leaked result from expreview back then, what's the fair assessment regarding GF110 speculated performance ?? :confused:
We know the card seems cool enough, whether through better cooling solution design, better yield & speedbinning, some sort of respin, or combination of those factors. But i don't think the underlying mArch has changed at all, judging from those specs. :shrug:

A 150% GF104 will kick that specced chip. Well, perhaps not in Unigine Heaven or Stone Giant extreme tesselation "game", but in real world gaming, a 576 SP 96 TMU 48 ROP (3 GPC) 384 bit chip would be plenty fast. Clocked @800 MHz core 1.6 GHz shader, with careful binning & reworking the chip design for better leakage, it still can get around 250-260 w TDP & the same die size of GF100 or even smaller.
It will suck in GPGPU but GF100 will cover that fine & abundantly available in stock (we know GTX 480s & 470s are not selling that well).

Nope, not a dual chip card, but a single chip developed from GF104 mArch, expanded 50% upward in execution units count to be exactly, taking advantage of GF104 gaming focused mArch design (much slower DP throughput, but much faster SP throughput with double Special Functioning Units & TMUs per SIMD array that what were important for gaming purpose).Quote:
