why not just get the cheaper and flash SPD of the more expensive then if same brand/IC :D
any suggestions?
Mr Dinos, i have the 4GB that areca sent me with my 1231, but do not have an 1880 -
Based on what i have read so far, i do not think this will work in the 1880.
Also, I think Mr. Nizzen said that his 1680 mem would not work in his 1880.

guys, there are only two sticks that will work with it. i have linked them several times, but you have to get those specific kits. no knock-offs or replacements.
as to flashing spd, very novel idea, i like it :) i would never do it with mine though, as i have no warranty.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...0&postcount=28
are you sure it will only work with those 2 specific kits? i just tried 10 different 2GB modules in my 1280ml and 9/10 worked fine,
is it something specific to a 4GB module?
yes, very specific. crazy thing is i have a 2gb stick that is compatible with the 1880, it is 7x cheaper, yet half the capacity. the numbers dont add up. i mean, feel free to test, but i had to rma four sticks.
the rules for the number of IC is the kicker. the 1280 is using what speed also? i think the 800 mhz is where they are running into problems.
you can edit SPD if its the speed that causes issues
i mean, that there are tons of lower speed sticks that work. but in the 800 mhz segment very few. the first person to find the 4gb stick that is cheap that works will be very popular!!:worship::party3:
The kingston ram they linked ( KVR800D2D8P6/4G ) is discontinued. it can be found in the wild for roughly 450 now, price has jumped. i wonder why?
UG51T7200N8DR-8CC unigen stick areca is using as their solution to the availability problem. available in some areas. nizzen has this as well, nizzen did you get from a distributor right? big issue has been US availability
.
the spec is:
512M x 72-bit 4GB (4096MB) DDR2-800 CL6 SDRAM
(Synchronous DRAM) "dual rank" Registered w/Parity memory module. The
components on
this module include eighteen 256M x 8-bit DDR2-800 SDRAM in FBGA packages.
This 240-
pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers and requires +1.8V
it MUST be x8 or x16... (18 IC only is what is making it hard to find a
replacement.)
Good morning, I think the 1231 uses 667 speed.
well i see form other threads the unigen is becoming available finally! awesome :)
Good afternoon all,
Ok so this is a little off subject.
I've been playing with pcmark05 for a couple of days - trying to get some points on hwbot. :)
Getting some fairly decent scores actually. :yepp:
My problem is - no matter what I do, I can't get my xp startup score below 200. :(
I've tried the normal copy workaround, anyone have any other suggestions?
http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/2...94pcmark05.png
you've just broke the record :)
My friend what is your video encoding score?
Never mind, just realized the limit is 220 so I'm good to go, thanks anyway!
Yes, the limit is at 220MB/s. :yepp:
Congrats Steve, that's an awesome score!
wow steve-o, you never fail to impress me! excellent job, i know you spent a lot of prep time for this, and as always, it paid off!
Much thanks guys!
Also much thanks to Mr. Youngpro - I expect he will be able to top this quickly and easily. :yepp:
I have learned much - reading and studying the previous works of the pcmark05 master. :yepp:
The run above was 2x5xR0 Acard 9010s all on an Areca 1231ML-4G.
The array stripe/allocation sizes and controller settings are optimized - similar but not the same as what I use for pcmv.
I used a full, up to date W7x64 install with IE9 beta.
Also added a few registry tweaks.
hey my good friend, it is a great result, but as i inform you there is some problems on the hwbot with tweaking pcmark 05, if you want we can compete against each other with these tweaks for fun, but they are not accepted on ORB or HWBOT...
i will ask the HWBOT moderators to make this more clear in the rules, i am sure they will be happy to make these important changes.. of course you should not feel bad, you did not know this when you show your result
in fact i make two results, one for HWBot using w7 because it gives me the highest score and one for ORB using XP because ORB only publishes the results using XP (does not allow w7 or vista to be in hall of fame)
i would enjoy to play the pcmark05 tweaking with you, but only in this thread :)
Wow Mr. Youngpro - very nice score indeed - well done.
Regarding the pcm05 rules - I did read and reread the rules and I thought my submission was legit.
I did not replace or modify any W7 executables or pcm05 test files with the exception of installing IE9 beta.
I did make changes to the registry (thanks for mod!) - that I believe should be classified as tweaking and therefore allowed.
Was this understood by the hwbot moderators and still disallowed?
If the answer back from the moderators is still disallowed, I will pull the submission asap - we will see.
well i think yeah you have done nothing wrong, i think maybe this is a unwritten rules so there is no way for you to know, i am sure the moderators will be happy to make the changes so the problems do not occur again in the future,
basically it was decided by the community when i found these enhancements including any type of browser replacement or browser enhancement, changing the encoder settings of audio or video codecs, modifying the way text editing occurs or the super high transparent windows.. i think the decision is the right one, because with these four tweaks, a score of 100,000 has already been made and when you consider we are doing around 35k at the moment, it is nearly 3 times the current score, it makes the benchmark perhaps obsolete.
pcmark is an amazing bench, it requires all part of the system, and mostly the storage subsystem, but also cpu, memory and gpu to all be clocked well, as well as some dedication in the setup and understanding and also some nice tweaking... to keep it as an active and relevant benchmark then i think we need to not use these four tweaks for competitive benchmarking like the hwbot or ORB and leave them for our own fun.. maybe we can have a competition one day on who can apply all the tweaks and create a massive pcmark score (i will not enter, but i will enjoy to watch it)..
please keep working on this benchmark, i definatly think you can take the world record, you already prove it with the pcmark vantage
@ Mr Youngpro -
Ok - thanks for the much needed history lesson and detailed explanation.
I understand better now - I never realized how complicated this rules thing can get.
I concur with you - I also want to keep pcm05 an active and relevant benchmark - so its a matter of where you draw the line.
Those that came before me made the call and decided where the line needed to be.
I will honor those decisions and delete my latest submission.
Back to benching! I might still be able to post a decent pcm05 score - even w/o these tweaks!
Good evening all,
OK so I also had this run from yesterday – looks like maybe #3 on the bot - still not too bad. :)
Same config as yesterday – 980x @ 5320, uncore @ 4620, Mem @ 1960, 7-7-6-20-1T
2x5xR0 Acard 9010s all on an Areca 1231ML-4G.
The array stripe/allocation sizes and controller settings are somewhat optimized.
Similar but not the same as what I use for pcmv.
I used a full, up to date W7x64 install with IE9 beta.
This time, NO registry tweaks. :yepp:
Cooling via an sdumper provided cascade.
Still pushing!

you will still get some good points with that, nice score! :)
Nice man that's a great result, without using these tweaks you really show your skill on hhis benchmark
Thanks guys, still pushing!
